Sweeney Todd Grosses-

My Opinion

I went on Friday Night to a 20 Screen Multiplex in Boca Raton for a 7:15 Showing.

The Entire Theatre Complex was like a Morgue. Very few People. I believe this weekend(especially Friday)was slow because of Christmas Shopping.

I guess we will know by next Weekend's Results

I hate to reference another chat board discussion, but I must ask - am I the only one who finds Topol in the FIDDLER ON THE ROOF film (when he was 35 years old) sexier than Johnny Depp in the SWEENEY film?

I have NEVER found Johnny Depp sexy. I think he can be a fine actor, funny or affecting as the situation warrants.

But not sexy to me. Not my type AT ALL.

As for movie box-office numbers... Well, I only care when I've contributed my $8-12, and find that I want a refund after seeing the movie.  For my money and time.  ;)

We/re going to an AMC theater tomorrow to see SWEENEY. The 10:50 a.m. show charges $5 for admission! This makes me happy since I'll be getting a review copy of SWEENEY from Dreamworks when they're ready to release it on DVD.

I began my afternoon viewing by finishing THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT Part II which I had begun last night. Aspect ratios continue to drive me batty with these films. The Esther Williams finale was zoomed in and sides chopped giving very wonky compositions when the water skiers where in formations. The ANNIE GET YOUR GUN scenes also varied from 4:3 to widescreen. Just plain weird.

The Blu-rays of the 3 movie set came today, but I won't likely start them until tomorrow.

Next, I watched A CHRISTMAS STORY. I absolutely love the film, and love it more every time I see it. Even though the time period was probably ten years before I was born, the shop windows, the Christmas parade, the elementary school classroom all seem eeriely familiar.

I laughed at all the electric plugs jammed into the two available outlets on the wall. How well I remember that at our house, too!

I just can't quite see why Sweeney Todd would be released at Christmastime.

For a Christmas treat, I watched my favorite episode from the second season of THE CLOSER - "To Protect and Serve" and laughed at all the places where Brenda pulls the wool over the eyes of her superior and other LAPD officials.

I concluded my afternoon's viewing with today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. No gay characters today, and they also were not in the previews for the next episode. (I'm assuming it won't be on tomorrow.)

And I bet Leonardo DiCaprio is not high on your personal "sexy" list.

I hope you used lots of booze (to sterilize the eggs, of course).

Pure medicinal purposes.

Tonight I'll be watching THE OMEGA MAN on Blu-ray. It's only 98 minutes with a few brief looking bonus features, so I'll find another Blu-ray to watch afterwards. I may start the THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT Blu-ray set just to get going on it.

No, he isn't, but I'd choose him over Depp if I were picking just one.

Was last year's Christmas offering more to your taste:

Or is that more bitchy than butchy?

Why do I sense another "But Alive" parody in the making?  :)

"But Alive" parodies should be accumulated and let loose at the proper time, which I believe is the second week in February.

I also promise not to repeat the story about the friend who worked the box office at North Shore being asked for "two tickets to Dorothy Collins in APPLESAUCE" until then.

I never repeat embarrassing stories about other people.  So listen carefully the first time.

(But I have repeated that joke, so go figure.)

Although a friend with a crappy record player heard "She's No Longer a Gypsy" and thought they were singing "She's no longer Egyptian, no more Equity calls"

Most films released at holiday time have nothing to do with that holiday. It's the time of year where folks have more leisure time on their hands and film attendance takes a big bump. So, all types of films look to holiday times for their launches. Don't forget that several James Bond films, Harry Potter films, as well as ALL THAT JAZZ that I mentioned some days ago were released in the Thanksgiving-Christmas holiday season.

Does NATIONAL TREASURE: BOOK OF SECRETS, which led the holiday grosses this past weekend, have anything more to do with Christmas than SWEENEY TODD?
