I began my afternoon of viewing with last night's 30 ROCK. Some very funny stuff as Kenneth gets hooked on coffee and the storyline with Edie Falco came to a close. I liked Alec and Edit together as a comedy couple. They were funny.

In "American" English, use "a" before a word that has a consonant "sound", including the "y".  A young girl.  A year-long.  A euphemism.  A eucharist.  A European summit.

Use "an" before a word that has a vowel "sound", including "h", such as "an homage", "an honor", "an honest".  But "a heavy load", etc., because you are actually "sounding" the "h".

And if you're American, it's "an herb omelet"; if you're British, it's "a herb omelet".

Next I watched CSI. There were two murders and, of course, the cases were connected in a roundabout way. I had the wrong killer picked out for the cowboy. No way to have been able to pick out the other killer as the clues weren't really provided.

And there was a long, long fight scene in a honky-tonk that made me realize how far CSI has fallen from its glory days of seasons 1-3.

Next, I watched MY NAME IS EARL. A funny episode as Earl deserted serving the god of karma. Giovanni Ribisi was hilarious as the guest star on the show.

I skimmed through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. No gay characters and they weren't featured in the previews for next week either.

Then I watched a series of ODD COUPLE episodes, every one of which made me howl with laughter. I particuarly like the surprise party for Oscar (Felix presents "This Is Your Life, Oscar Madison").

But, the greatest episode from season 3 was also one of the ones I watched - "Password" with Allen Ludden and Betty White - hysterical from beginning to end, but especially during the game itself where Felix is his own worst enemy as a player.

I have one more ODD COUPLE on disc 2 before moving on to disc 3. I'd like to get three or four more watched before GHOST WHISPERER comes on tonight.

No mail, and that includes the replacement package for the one that was lost.  I will not be happy if TWO packages with the same item are lost.  It's very annoying when these things don't arrive on time, and what's more annoying is when you're unsure of your mail place's ability to get the packages to you and/or alert you of their arrival.

I want to do some writing and then I must head down to mop the kitchen floor (argh!) and then get back to Oscar and Felix.

Question for MattH and JMK...when you are sent DVDs to watch and review...what happens if it is a something you just can't stand, but there are, like, 50 episodes that you have to watch?

TOTD:
Last CD played was "Home On The Range" soundtrack.
I've also been playing some Lee Hazlewood tracks (With Nancy Sinatra and Ann-Margret duets)
DVD: The Constant Gardener.  Even better on second viewing.
(I do like John Le Carré's novels)

Book:  Ship of Magic - Robin Hobb

I've done seven and a half pages - I think I'm done for the day, save for maybe doing some clean up later.

I shall now think about food.

I did listen to The Actors Fund Benefit performance of CHESS.  Wow!  I like this recording very much indeed.  Sutton Foster, Julia Murney, Josh Groban, Raoul Esparza, Adam Pascal and Norm Lewis.  It's quickly becoming my favorite CHESS recording. . .now if they only had Judy Kuhn instead of Miss Murney. . . .

I have Lee Hazelwood & Ann-Margret's "The Cowboy and the Lady;" I like it very much, very much indeed.

I suspect Keith is delighted when you go to a scary film - what with you all curled in his lap ;D

As long as I'm quiet about the scary parts & don't grab him ;D  Really, I'm very good.

On a less gory note, a 50th Anniversary set of Perry Mason episodes will be out in April, and it will have some very cool extras, including screen tests of Raymond Burr for both the role of Mason and one for him to play Hamilton Burger.

Interesting.  I wonder how the show would have been had Raymond Burr been Burger instead of Mason.

And if you're American, it's "an herb omelet"; if you're British, it's "a herb omelet".

der Brucer

In America, we have what is known as the "collective noun".  The "collective noun" is a word that identifies a group of things...be the group objects or people...or industrial entities.

For instance, "Bank of America" is a collective noun.  In America, the collective noun is treated as a "singular" entity and, thus, it takes singular pronoun references and verbs.  "The Bank of America is one of the largest banks in the U.S., and it is the bank in which I keep my money."

In the U.K., it is a "plural entity":  "The Bank of America are offering decent interest on their certificates of deposit."

Another thing "they do" in America that is beneath all the contempt I can manage to muster at any given time is the abuse of subject-verb agreement.

"If anyone (singular) wishes to donate clothes to a good cause, they (plural) should contact Grace Larson at the church."

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Burger would have hammed up Mason if he had switched roles, that's for sure.
