There was a kid's game show on every Saturday--(maybe two) that I can't remember the name(s) for. One where they had to paddle a boat to a "Island" and find clues for a treasure and the other was like a game board where you had to do weird things depending on where you landed. Anyone remember them?

I always had a thing for Batman, myself.

Well, spending the night at my friend's house definitely cheered me up a bit. She bought me butter pecan ice cream and we looked at pics of cute guys (fully clothed, mind you

Thanks so much for all the good vibes, everyone! You guys really are the best...and you absolutely crack me up too! I was too busy laughing when I read last night's posts to give a thought to crying.

Hmmm....almost all of my favorite cartoon characters have already been mentioned. In addition though to Bugs, Daffy, Donald Duck, Speedy Gonzalez, Pepe le Pieu, Wil E. Coyote and the Roadrunner, Popeye, Betty Boop, Roger Rabbit, Rocky and Bullwinkle, I also love Yakko, Wakko and Dot, Mindy and Buttons, and Rita (voiced by Bernadette Peters!) from Animaniacs and Babs and Buster Bunny, Elmira, Shirley the Loon, and Baby Pluckey from Tiny Toon Adventures.

Charles--I agree with you completely about South Park! Foul-mouthed as it may be, it is one of the most unremittingly funny and socially incisive shows on TV. I've seen one episode of Kid Notorious...it was funny in spots but it grated on my nerves after a while.

I just realised I never answer the question of the day... how unseemly

My favorite cartoons from childhood (and remember, most of the ones I remember are from the late 80s-early 90s) are:

1) Captain Planet - "We're the Planeteers! You can be one too! Cuz saving our planet is the thing to do! Lootin' and Pollutin' are not the way! Hear what Captain Planet has to say: 'The power is YOUUUUUURRRRSSS"

2) Chip 'n Dale's Rescue Rangers - "Ch-Ch-Ch-Chip and Dale, Rescue Rangers! Ch-Ch-Chip and Dale, when there's danger!" God what an annoying theme song!

3) Jem and the Holograms. I remember running around my house striking rocker-chick poses with my little sister and saying "Totally Outrageous" over and over and over. I'm surprised my parents didn't go insane.

That, of course, is a picture of the lovely and talented Jem and the Holograms in action.

JRand53, thanks for the info re: Green Fedora, I've been looking for this cartoon for twenty years, thirty years. I've only seen it once in my life but the tune has stuck in my head forever. According to one of your sources, it is on video. I Love to Singa, I've actually had for some time. Mucho thanks again. If I can track this down, my wife, who I have been convulsing with my asinine impression of this song for years, will finally get to see the source.

Hello Hainsies! Konichiwa Kimlets!

I agree with so many of the posts about favorite cartoon characters. I was a huge Scooby Doo fan as a kid, had all sorts of Scooby paraphanalia. Most all of the WB Looney Tunes group are true classics, but I've always had an affinity for Wile E. Coyote. Can't go wrong with Rocky and Bullwinkle, particularly Mr. Peabody and Sherman.

Also loved some of the not-yet-mentioned Hanna-Barbera classics like Huckleberry Hound and Quick Draw McGraw. Also the Blue Falcon and Dynomutt (anyone else remember them?). Oh, and Captain Caveman! And Grape Ape!!!

For current cartoons, I love Space Ghost. Only seen one or two episodes of Harvey Birdman, but found it freakin' funny. And, of course, South Park and The Simpsons (and, yes JMK, I did know about the Portland street names!).

My favorite cartoon characters were Rocky and Bullwinkle. In fact, all of the cartoons from the Jay Ward stable were great, with the possible exception of Dudley Do-Right. I found Dudley and Nell and Snidley a little annoying when I was a kid. However, all of that changed when Brendon Fraser did the film version. Dudley was still annoying, but so much easier on the eyes.

I loved Fractured Fairy Tales. One of the highlights of my young childhood was getting to meet Edward Everett Horton. When I asked for his autograph, he sat me on his lap, autographed my program, and then drew a little picture of a face that he said was supposed to be him. I still have that program.

Definately loved the Hanna-Barbera cartoons as a kid...Huckleberry Hound, Yogi Bear, etc. And does anyone remember Hashimoto? That was my big favorite!

And though it was a different type of animation, I loved as a kid and still love as an adult the old Gumby shows!!

The Batman had a more mysterious psycho-sexual aura, and he is rich, too.

I liked the song in THE GREEN FEDORA as well, it used to be on television quite often on a local channel here in Indy in the 1950's.
