I just read that CBS has canceled SECRET TALENTS OF THE STARS which aired its one and only episode on Tuesday to very poor ratings (maybe JERICHO's ratings aren't looking so bad any more, eh?)

ROTFL....all I remember of that is that tacky promo that ended with George Takei ineptly tackling a country/western song .

His was the name I could remember, and none of them were "stars", per se.

And just try getting a priest to pronounce "decade" correctly when referring to a 10-year period.

I really did hit the mother lode of DVDs today.

I meantioned earlier that I got the Paramount review copy of HOW SHE MOVE. However, I can't start on it tomorrow as I had planned. I got also in the mail today the screeners of 5 Criterion discs as well as THE GOLDEN COMPASS. The UPS man CAME BACK and brought with him three more review copies: two volumes of THE BIG GAY SKETCH COMEDY SHOW (season 1 and season 2 in separate cases) as well as another BET show, this one a gospel music special with Shirley Caesar.

Then, I got two boxes of Amazon orders (BARON MUNCHAUSEN on Blu-ray and A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE which they had on sale very cheaply - alas, not Blu-ray and the musicalx box which I was talking about earlier.)

So, I'm set for awhile in terms of viewing for pleasure and also for work.

DEXTER has had a chance before this year to make it into the top 5 and didn't, so I'm not hopeful of its chances. Ditto TNT's entries no matter how deserving.

Of those mentioned, I think MAD MEN has the best shot. It seems universally adored, but there's no '24' this year, GREY'S ANATOMY has had a mediocre season, too, though it might sneak in just from habit. HEROES, which made the cut last year, probably won't make it this year.

So, I'm guessing LOST, MAD MEN, HOUSE, DAMAGES, and GREY'S ANATOMY.

OK, so I'll admit it--I bought a CD from that Australian eBay guy who is the bane of CASTRECL. For years I've wanted to hear OLC of "Ambassador," so I got it from him--it's obviously never going to get an authorized release, so I justify it that way. The score, while old-fashioned, is quite enjoyable. Does anybody know who played the second female lead? She almost sounds like Phyllis Diller, but something tells me Phyl didn't do this one.
