Are we STILL on page four?  You'd think it was a Wednesday or something.

Kim's musical director, who had told me when I took the job that he was leaving for Italy on July 4, has just informed me that he leaves tomorrow around 3 pm.  I've called Fed Ex and it looks as though a package mailed on Saturday July 5 may not arrive in Italy before the concert on the 9th.

so . . . I will be out of commission most of the day and probably most of the night!

Is Mr. Singdaw wending his way to LA?

I wish, bk!!!!  But not this trip.  We're getting hitched and then hightailing it right back to NY.

So, Wingdaw is Wending to a Wedding!

DR George - I thought the beauty of condo living was that the association took care of the backyard weeds?  ???

Well...because it's within my fenced-in backyard, it's my responsibility.  All of the common grass around the buildings and other un-enclosed areas are the responsibility of the HOA (that's Home Owner's Association, for anyone who didn't know ;)).

An acquaintance of mine has posted an interview to youtube.com conducted by Jim Whaley, late emcee of "Cinema Showcase", a PBS syndicated show that originated out of Atlanta GA.  Jim was my best friend for 35 years until his untimely death in August 1992 (heart attack).  The reason for the interview was to promote "The Prince of Tides".  The 30-minute show included interviews with Nick Nolte and Kate Nelligan, but only the Streisand segment is on youtube.   The station that aired this interview altered the opening visuals to include its own call letters and background.  Normally, there were many film clips edited under the exciting "Theme from 'Airport" by Alfred Newman which was the show's signature opening.

Whaley-Streisand-Cinema Showcase

CINEMA SHOWCASE with Jim Whaley as host was my never-miss Saturday afternoon viewing experience. I didn't miss an episode for years and years and years. After I got a VCR, I used to record episodes for later playbkac if they involved people I liked or found interesting (Gloria Swanson was a memorable guest, so was Celeste Holm).

When I found out here years ago that you were friends with Jim, I searched and searched for episodes of the show I had taped, but I couldn't find a single one. I know they're at the ends of movies I taped off TV back in the day, but I've yet to stumble across a single one.

Well, MattH, you do get to look at Joe Penny, and that ain't a bad way to spend 45 minutes!

Unquestionably there are compensations. I won't argue the point!

Much to my dismay and disgust, the Criterions were NOT in today's mail. I am SO disheartened about it. They're already days past street date and although no one but me is putting pressure on myself, I am just frustrated about the whole business.

I was so upset about their not arriving that I did NOTHING this afternoon but watch fun stuff. I began with another MURDER SHE WROTE episode. Again, I had never seen this one before, and among the guest stars was Boyd Gaines looking about 20 and Julie Adams, William Windom and the other regulars when stories are set in Cabot Cove.

What DID come today was THE CLOSER, Season 3, so of course I had to watch one. The season begins with that gut-wrenching story of a family slaughter. I remembered the identity of the killer but not all the details of the case or the motive for murder, so in some ways, it seemed like I was watching it for the first time.

Naturally, I immediately went into another episode, the discovery of the gang member murdered in 1992. I remember the identity of the killer in this one but not the way they discover whodunit, so again, it's like seeing parts of it for the first time.

How do I love THE CLOSER? Let me count the ways. . . .

I will finish that episode when I go back down and go ahead with watching STOP-LOSS tonight. There don't appear to be a huge number of bonus features on the disc though there is a commentary.

I also fondly remember Jim Whaley and CINEMA SHOWCASE. Now I'm wondering if I might also have his show on the end of a few VHS tapes...

Here are a few more semifinalists lists on The Emmys. I'll start with one close to DR Edi's heart:

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series
Patricia Arquette, Medium
Glenn Close, Damages
Minnie Driver, The Riches
Sally Field, Brothers & Sisters
Mariska Hargitay, Law and Order: SVU
Holly Hunter, Saving Grace
Elisabeth Moss, Mad Men
Mary McDonnell, Battlestar Galactica
Kyra Sedgwick, The Closer
Jeanne Tripplehorn, Big Love

No big surprises here. These are pretty much the actresses I would have thought would be in the running.

Next, the men:

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series

Gabriel Byrne, In Treatment
Kyle Chandler, Friday Night Lights
Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad
Patrick Dempsey, Grey's Anatomy
Michael C. Hall, Dexter
Jon Hamm, Mad Men
Eddie Izzard, The Riches
Hugh Laurie, House
Denis Leary, Rescue Me
James Spader, Boston Legal

Except for the omission of LOST's Matthew Fox, I can't quibble too much about this list. I would love to have seen Christopher Meloni's name again this year, but he really didn't have any showcase episodes this past season like in years past.

One that I have never seen leaked before: the guest actress/comedy semifinalists:

Polly Bergen, Desperate Housewives
Edie Falco, 30 Rock
Vivica A. Fox, Curb Your Enthusiasm
Kathryn Joosten, Desperate Housewives
Annie Potts, Ugly Betty
Carrie Fisher, 30 Rock
Shirley Knight, Desperate Housewives
Jane Lynch, Two and a Half Men
Amy Ryan, The Office
Sarah Silverman, Monk
Elaine Stritch, 30 Rock

Elaine Stritch won this award last year. I didn't think she deserved it then, and I certainly don't think she deserves ANOTHER nomination for the same part.

Back from more errands.  Have had no Diet Coke yet, and have had one bottle of water.  I'm having a small steak for lunch, perhaps accompanied by a small bagel and small cream cheese.

ASK BK 2

I noticed that in the superset that is being released on Sondheim they are releasing the Evening Primrose soundtrack with Perkins and Carr, incidental music from the Enclave etc

Are they releasing any tracks you produced?

There's just nighthawks, bats, coyotes, jackrabbits, and cottontails that early in the morning.

Here it can be skunks so I try not to go out before 7:30.  Do you have streetlights?  We don't, making it far more dangerous to go so early.  Lately I'm not even getting out of bed to watch the sunrise :(
