The second night of the cruise is their "Pirates IN the Caribbean Night".  Kids dress up.  Parents dress up.  The Staff dresses up.  I did not dress up - although, they do provide everyone with a Pirates' Bandana at dinner.  They finish off the evening with a HUGE on-deck dance party complete with a HUGE food buffet and a fireworks!  -DCL is the only cruise line that shoots their own fireworks off the boat!

The buffet features all sorts of food, and there are two full tables set aside just for the desserts.  However, at the end of the "savory table", they offer freshly made crepes filled with strawberries - which you can get a la mod if your like.  To help keep up with the demand for the crepes they employ a fully automated crepe making machine.  It's sort of of hard to describe, so I shall just post a picture of it instead.

Yep, the "art" of striking a set .... Whenever I strike a set, I'm always hit by that realization that it's such long, painstaking work to create something, but such quick work to destroy something...

I still remember feeling a bit sad after the first cycle of the Kennedy Center's Sondheim Celebration had finished up.  The day after Sweeney Todd had closed, I had to go back to the KC to rehearse for the Aida (the Elton John/Tim Rice one, not the Verdi).  On the plaza outside of the KC was a big dumpster.  And in the dumpster were remnants of the sets of Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park with George, and Company.  What a truly depressing site.

Whew, DR JRand, that was fast work!

We had a good crew....and of course once the siding was off the house, we only had some framing to take apart.  Just a little bit of furniture and a few flats....so then it was PIZZA TIME.

Me, too, DR MATTH, me, too.

And of course DR MISS KAREN, aka TBG, you have to load up into your car ALL of the stuff you have taken to the theatre over the last FOUR weeks in a LOT of trips...and then try to figure out exactly where it belongs at home.....at 2 a.m.  :P

Oh.....the only thing that saves me from such a sorry sight is that at PCPH we recycle everything right down to the screws....  8)

On the final night of the cruise, DCL does a "Sail Away" party which is basically one final big "meet and greet" with the Disney Characters that have been making appearances throughout the cruise.  It's a true joy watching all the kids and kids at heart going up to Belle, Mickey, Chip and Dale, Peter Pan, Cinderella, etc., to get their "autographs", and have a picture taken with them.

Since I was working as "staff" on this cruise, I was able to meet all the characters before they headed out into the Atrium.  And since I actually knew a bunch of the characters - well, the people "inside" the characters, it was also good time to say Goodbye to everyone.  So...

Here I am with my friend, AJ:

The other 100 Dalmations were still running around Deck 10.  ;)

Continuing yestday's topic of what shows did we watch:

Ed Sulllivan was always there, Lucy was also always there.  Between syndiicated reruns of "I Love Lucy,' The Lucy-Desi ComedyHour" and new episodes of "The Lucy Show"  you could watch Lucy 3 or 4 times a day even back then when we only had 4 stations and much of the programming consisted of test patterns.  Gale Storm, Ann Sothern and Joan Davis all had their shows in reruns too.
Oh, and of course, "American Bandstand"

*And I have to say, Disney really goes to great lengths to train their "Characters" well.  If they are a "live" person, they are "trained" on their posture, their accent, signature hand motions, etc.   If they are costumed, they are still trained how to move properly in the costume, and they are also silent - the costumed characters do not speak.  -And will not speak even when prompted to - even if they happen to know the person on the "outside".

However, I think the coolest thing about the character training, is that they are all trained in how to write like the characters when they are asked for autographs.  Yes, Winnie the Pooh has his own style!

Yes, they do...

Each night of the cruise, they host a themed dance party in one of their "Adults Only" bars on the ship.  It's either by decade or genre.  On this cruise, they had a Disco night, an 80's night, and then they finished up with a Rockin' Country Night last night.  -They rotate through 10 or 12 different themes.  To kick off each "party", a group of performers from the Theatre staff comes over and does a bit of choreography to help get the guests in the mood.  Well, since last night was Country night...

DR Jose - love the photos!

Several years ago, my sister got to take a behind-the-scenes tour at Disney World.  When she asked how many people were trained to portray Mickey the answer was, "Ma'am, there's only ONE Mickey Mouse."

OH!

What I was really looking forward to on this cruise was seeing their new show: "Toy Story: The Musical".  I had played almost all of the New York City auditions as well as the final set of callbacks, so I knew almost everyone in this first cast of the show.  They have another month left before their contract cycle ends, and then the new cast - which is currently rehearsing in Toronto - will be coming in.  And it was also great getting to play for some of them during the audition workshop.

And one of my most memorable library-related trainings was when several Disney Imagineers spoke to a bunch of librarians about how to enhance the visitor experience.  One of them said, "No one leaves humming the scenery."

DR Jane, i can imagine that smelling a flight attendant's perfume would drive me over the edge.  I hate it when i am early at the movie theatre and find a seat. and then right before the movie starts some smelly person sits down behind me! For some reason that has happened more than once.

I wasn't a happy camper on the flight, and I know what you mean about the theater.

I fortunately have one perfume I'm not allergic to, and it helps to counter other smells.  I spray it on my wrist & then hold my wrist up to my face.  I may look silly but it works.
