Der Brucer did indeed give me more DVDs of the classic Doctor Who stories: The Time Warrior, which features Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor and introduces Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith, and the box set "Beneath the Surface," which holds Doctor Who and the Silurians (awkward title, that), The Sea Devils (both from the Pertwee era), and Warriors of the Deep (featuring Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor).

This should keep me busy for a while.   :D

The only real problem is in storage - I've been keeping all the Doctor Who discs in story order, and the box set jumps around a bit, containing stories 52, 62, and 131.  The only thing to do is take the keepboxes out of their box-set box (which is just paperboard, after all), but the cover illustration on the box is rather nice.  I'll just have to figure out some place to store that, specially.

In any case, the discs are loaded with extras, which should be not as fluffy as they would be if the show were USA produced.  The BBC Video crew has a good track record on making their bonus materials.  (Oooh, here's one our esteemed BK would appreciate: a nine-minute Now and Then featurette about the location shooting, on the Silurian disc.  He should get ahold of the people producing the discs like Adam-12 and bitch-slap them silly until they make similar featurettes for the discs he's watching - maybe they could get him to produce those featurettes, start a whole new phase of his career!)

The arrival of the discs also means it's time to re-organize our disc storage.  It's been a few months, and our entire library is a bit out of order.  It doesn't take der B and myself to use up the shelf-space around here!

It was a beautiful morning for a walk: shady, breezy, and almost (dare I say it?) cool at only 83 degrees.

Good morning, all! I shall venture out today and see what work I can accomplish at Toyland.

I finished QUICKSILVER last night; it's only 600+ pages and I still feel ambivalent about it.  There are a couple of wonderful scenes and a great portrait of an aging lesbian star who's egocentric, petty, and cheap - based on Kathrine Cornell - as well as a lot of "rah rah theatre!" I got over many many years ago.  I must say, though, that the book pulls off the gay seduction of a young extra by a star based on, I believe, Orson Wells or Tyrone Power, that I thought was far from oblique for a 1942 popular novel.  I also though the novelist was too too kind to the anti-semitic rich girl: he should have had her die under a bus or taxi.

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And I have to say that I slept very well and sound last night.  Must have been all that wine sampling and/or the Olympics. ;)

As for Today's Topic Free-For-All...

Basically riffing on yesterday's Topic of the Day...

When, how, why, etc., did you know that you wanted to do what you did grow up to be and/or currently are doing - since the two might not be the same.  ;)

*I'm sure there's a better way to phrase that question, but I'm still waiting for the coffee to kick in fully.  ;)

I don't think it's quite 83 degrees here - but it may be - but I believe I shall be going for a walk too this morning.  I've never been to St. John's Church - home of the Patrick Henry's "Give me liberty or give me death" speech - and since I'm not too far from there this morning, well...  We shall see..

*Hmm... They are doing the weekly reenactment at 2:00 today.... Hmm....

DR DerBrucer - Hmm... I guess it is "scuppernong" wine.  Who knew?

*Although, in my defense, Steve's father labels his bottles as "Scuppernog".  ;)

DR Jose, thank you for waving at Crozet for me! I enjoyed hearing about your day; I've been to several of those vineyards myself. I need to find a good excuse to get back up there---I love that part of the country!

I've only seeing about 5 minutes of the Olympics, but it consisted of a camera trained to Michael Phelps' face, as though they were just waiting for him to burst into tears. Enough, already!

Good morning!

I was awakened from a very sound sleep by a HUGE thunderclap and the resultant rain. I did doze about 45 minutes more, but I'm not sure I ever really go back to a deep sleep.

I am enjoying once more this delicious morning coolness which I've gotten quite spoiled having these last few days. I fear this may be the last.

He was probably just trying to be realistic.  If all the anti-semitic rich girls died under busses or taxis, the bus and taxi repairmen would be the neuveu riche from the bumper replacement costs, and then where would we all be?
