Yeah... A&E sold videotapes of the various musicals it broadcasted way back when: ROMANCE, ROMANCE, all those NUNSENSE ones, STOP THE WORLD... (or was it the other Newley one - with Peter Scolari) and some other ones I can't remember right now.  They were part of their "Breakfast with the Arts" series, or something like that.

Yes  this is the third taping of the stage show. Pete Scolari and Stephanie Zimblest

Handfull smandfull.  I brought in a pinch of snow, no more.

...the dishes are washed, the floor vacuumed and the counters wiped down.  I even went ahead and sorted out the various fruit baskets.
You're the only person I know, DR Jose, who would alphabetize the fruit in the baskets.  ::)

But it's very good to know your father is feeling better!

I wasn't aware that so many Paint Your Wagon songs weren't recorded, Michael.

I grew up in the Bronx, and one of the members of our temple was Seymor Penzner. His stage name was Robert Penn, and he played Jake ("Hand Me Down That Can of Beans") in the original Paint Your Wagon. Do you know if he sang any of the unrecorded numbers?

Mr. Penzner directed and helped to create several temple shows. He made it an extremely exciting time for everyone - even those, like me, who merely painted the scenery.

Off to a brief rehearsal and then, like General MacArthur, I shall return.  If I don't return like General MacArthur, perhaps I shall return as General Foods or even General Delivery.
If you got demoted, we'd have a Major Catastrophe!

TOD: There's a whole list of cookbooks I'd like to add to my collection.  I can never have enough cookbooks.

Speaking of cookbooks, has anyone else seen the new Gourmet Cookbook? It weighs more than five pounds and sells for $55 (Canadian). But the recipe and note titles are all in an extremely pale yellow on a cream-colored paper - and virtually unreadable.

Evening all.

DR Jose thank you so very much for going through the trouble of posting that wonderful article about the chestnuts.  I really enjoyed it.

What did I find in my mail today among several cards and letters from dear friends but a package from DR Elmore.   Thank you so very much!  I am very much looking forward to listening to the CD.

Good vibes to DR Tom’s friend and DR Jose’s Father.  Continued good vibes to DR Ann and DR Jane.

Last night I went to turn the cold water off after taking my shower only to find it wouldn’t turn off.  I had to go outside and turn the water main off, find the wrench, take the cold water stem off, find a washer and reassemble the whole thing.  I am getting so tired of being a handyman.

As for the TOD, I guess what I want the most is all pressure and stress out of my life.   I just want some peace and time to do the things I want to do.

Dan-in-Toronto, I haven't see it (the cookbook) but it sounds like someone wasn't thinking when they did the layout.  I like the Cook n' software.  I'm working on getting the entire set.

Time to get cooking.  I'm giving stuffed peppers a try tonight.  The rice is cooked, the peppers par-boiled.  Now to get everything else together!

Speaking of unanswered questions, I said I would answer Michael Shayne's from last night...

He asked...

For all the DR who are writers out there.
I am wondering what your work habits are.

Do you write the entire script and then go back and rewrite?

***I do both. Rewrite as I go along and rewrite when it's done. It's all about rewriting and then rewriting some more.

Do you write a section of the story, then rewrite it and then continue and repeat the process until the end?

***Answered above.

Do you allow others to read what you have done as a work in progress or you wait until it is complete before someone else reads it?

***No. I don't show my work to colleagues or friends, actually ever. (Or hardly ever.) And I don't show it to producers until it's done for that incarnation. (First Draft, 2nd Draft, whatever). I don't believe that work should be a subject for group discussions in a non-professional way. Some writers have a certain special person whose judgment they trust, and that's fine. But as for me, when it's done it goes to the producers, the Network, whoever, and then we talk about it. That's painful enough (most of the time) without bringing friends and neighbors into it.
My personal opinion. Others may work differently.

Do you work with an editor or a dramaturge (sp?)?

***No. Not in longform, anyway. I suppose the notes one gets serve this function. Back in the old days in Canada when I worked fairly often with my ex-husband who was a producer, we used a story editor or story consultant as kind of a middle-man, otherwise it got a little too close for comfort. That actually worked quite well.

Hope this answers your questions, MS. I'm busy thinking about a huge meal of garlic noodles and other delightful goodies, so I've probably left out some pertinent facts, but so be it.

Wow, I got a load of stuff in the mail today! Including the much sought after DVD or WHAT IF?!!!

Also a nice Christmas package from DRElmore3003, containg some interesting reading and viewing materials; a video of the movie HOUSE OF THE DAMNED from Ebay; and a nice Christmas card from a cast member of the film WILD WOMEN OF WONGO.

Ah yes MBARNUM - I got it today.  Thanks so much.  What a strange movie so far.....and they certainly didn't even try to disguise the facts that Meena was not doing her own singing OR dancing.  LOL....beautiful EASTMAN color.

But a strange movie.

DR MS - I answered your question yesterday as well, but I forgot the last part.  I am my own dramaturg!  I love dramaturgy and do it for a couple of theatres in town.  It used to be VERY difficult, but the internet makes it much easier, although you have to be certain of your sources.

MR BK - You chose the BEST LINE from the original to keep.  Hehehhehe.....too bad Eulabelle has been declared unconstitutional.

DRMichael Shayne, I'm looking at the published vocal score to PAINT YOUR WAGON, and there are items on your list I cannot locate.  I, too, regret the unrecorded TRIO and MOVIN' ON, and I'd like to hear the dance arrangements by the great Trude Rittman.  Several items on your list like "Take the Wheels Off the Wagon," Spring," and "Dream Ballet" are not in my score.  The "Lonely Men" dance goes straight into "They Call the Wind Maria."  The other cues you mention are all dance pieces.
The Fandangos are the dance hall girls who come on at the end of Act One, and "The Strike" is composed of several earlier tunes "I'm On My Way" and "There's a Coach Comin' In."

I’m home and very, very sleepy.  It wasn’t so much the early walk as the lack of sleep last night.  I hope I crash tonight.

This morning I had tours of both Panni and Bruce’s lovely new homes.  I especially enjoyed the artwork on their walls.  I had the pleasure of meeting Panni’s DD (dear daughter) who was amazingly friendly having been woken up at 7:00 AM to meet me.  Abie greeting me by jumping off DD’s bed and jumping on me before jumping back on the bed with DD.

Friday night I arrived 2 hours late and went directly to my mother in-laws and took her out to dinner.

Saturday night my friends I stayed with had their family, and extended family (which I am) Christmas party.  It was a fun evening and wonderful spending time with them.  Watching the little ones open their gifts was a blast.

My uncle’s memorial service was very nice.  I almost lost in when I walked in and there was a big photo of my father and my uncle.  When my cousin got up and spoke about his two wonderful uncles who were so good to him when he lost his father (at a young age) I did loose it.  I’m really glad I went.

Saturday my brother and I hiked in Pacific Palisades and had dinner together Sunday evening.

It was a short but rewarding trip.

I just put in my new Christmas CD, arrangements and orchestrations by our own elmore.   Since I typed the last sentence I have been sitting here listening to the beautiful music.

NURSE JANE IS HOME!

NURSE JANE IS HOME!

You've been missed, dear lady.  Welcome back.

DRJMK, I've been remiss.  I think your new avatar is really swelegant.

I've been watching, and laughing at, WHAT IF?  I want to work on it now.  I can see a nice 4-piece band backing it up, piano, bass, guitar and percussion, I think.

I haven't got to "Chinese Food In Bed," but so far I think Ryan's a hoot.  Now, who are the writers on the non-What-if songs, besides Mary Rodgers and Ahrens & Flaherty?  I see from Michael Shayne's Kimmel site that our BK wrote "Born Too Late" (now I want to hear "Parsley" and "Joshua Novek," a song dear to my heart).   Who wrote the others?

Just rechecked my notes and just saw that  Take The Wheels Off The Wagon
was added to the tour. I suspected that alot of the unrecorded numbers where dance numbers. Did Trude Rittman one of the great unsung people of the Broadway musical, compose any of the dance music? She usually went uncrecited for the shows that she did write for.
