I was coming home from a Christmas party and this is what I saw. Does this mean Christmas will be late this year?

Christmas, no!
But my presents, yes!

I ask you!
Does anyone wear a HAT????

Got all caught up in the skullduggery of Writer's Block this afternoon.  Must confess, the "reveal" was a complete surprise to me.

Must now clean up and head over to what surely will be the most sparkling Christmas Eve do on the face of the planet.

All of us white cotton jockey boys were appalled, I tell you!  We were aghast and agog.  Miss Blair, who has a heavy interest in holiday helper Andrew, was quite intrigued by the plaid boxers.  If Andrew is asked to stay beyond Jan 2, it will be interesting to see how this progresses.

DRs Jose, Jrand, Joey and other midwesterners - follow-up to last night's posts about Mamma Mia at Clowes Hall in the spring.  A matinee would work best for me, too, because Indianapolis is about a 2-3 hour drive from here.  Nice offer, DRJose, to arrange for house seats.

House seat story:  My first trip to NYC was in 1967, the summer between my junior and senior years in high school.  My mom worked at one of the big Detroit banks with a woman whose brother had some connection to Lotte Lenya.  We had her house seats for Cabaret, original cast, at the Imperial Theatre.  Afterwards, we waited at the stage door and I have a program autographed by 4 of the 5 principals - Joel Grey, Bert Convy, Jack Gilford, and Lotte Lenya (we didn't recognize Jill Haworth until she spoke and was halfway down the block).  My mother would never show the ticket stubs to my father because she didn't want him to know how much we'd paid for those seats - $12.00 each!

I was visiting my family in Montreal last year when I took this pictiure of my neighbors rooftop. He was a reputed drug lord

I guess he was naughty.

By the way, DRGinny, I loved today's snowy shot.  It conjured up memories of my brother Tom and me trudging up Central Avenue to Wilson Elementary School!

You could trudge all day now and never get to Wilson, because it's gone, gone, gone, along with Creekview and McKinley.  New buildings, ADA-compliant and wired for 21st century technology, will rise on their sites.

Everything is now ready, save for the pasta, which I'll start boiling water for in ten minutes.  All we need now is the girl, or the boy, or the denizens.

Candles are lit, See's Dark Chocolate Nuts and Chews are on the table, Cashew nuts are on the table, and it's taking all my willpower to not just eat everything right now.  The only food I've had today is the occasional taste of spaghetti sauce.

A Broadway Christmas is playing - I forget how good that album is.  Just one of those times when everything worked beautifully and magically.  Love when that happens.  I do remember the rhythm date got off to a rough start (I think it was on this album), but otherwise, perfect cast, perfect songs, and wonderful charts by Mr. Lanny Meyers.

Well I am back from the first of two Christmas Eve services I must play.  The furnace at the church was out and the sanctuary was positively medieval.  My feet are chunks of ice.  I can only imagine what the late service is going to feel like.

Re:  The Christmas Song.  There is a fairly rare version by Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 that was only released on a holiday BF Goodrich special LP (yes, there were such things in "the olden days," as my kids call anything before yesterday).  It has a quite stunning Richard Hazard orchestration and Lani and Karen sound quite fetching on it.

Yule Log means something different here, something that brings great hilarity to Betsy and me.  Every year on Christmas Eve, the local public broadcasting station shows two hours of a log burning whilst various carols play, festively entitled "The Yule Log".  It's just so very, very odd that one can't help but chuckle.

Joy's not felt up to snuff since Tuesday night, has been missing many a rendezvous with many an old friend since.  But, magically, she's now getting her sick self together...

She isn't the star of Christmas Dreams for nothing!

Hummm!
I don't know but I'm sure EVEN Santa Claus -- which is a shocking COMMERCIAL enterprise, btw! -- has a sense of humour!

If we can have TWELVE DRUMMERS SITTING AROUND IN THE NUDE on a Xmas night, I guess we can have a drunken and almost nude Santa, no?
My conviction is that Santa sure is a... dirty old man, anyway!

I'm quite convinced some will put that on my being French, but I need more than such a pic to be offended!
Surprised, yes! Offended, no!
Was BK offended btw?
He's too busy getting the partay ready, I'm sure!

Well, this being Christmas night requires us to be PC, I'm afraid!
"Off with this picture!"

Peace on Earth!
Amen.

Lovely CABARET story DRGINNY.  Okay....so now we just have to decide if we want the Saturday matinee or the Sunday matinee for MAMMA MIA! but plenty of time to decide.  The show is not until April!

Party time approaches!

I just finished watching the kinescope of the 2nd broadcast of AMAHL AND THE NIGHT VISITORS, Dec. 25, 1952.  I believe I saw it when it first aired in 1952, but my first memory of watching it was after I was hospitalized with pneumonia in December 1954.  I know that NBC broadcast it for several seasons, and I'm thrilled that this kinescope of the opera exists.  It was great to see it again.

I am getting two kinescopes next year (hopefully January--counting the days) that I have waited years to obtain.  They were an unexpected early Christmas present from a friend.  I'll let you guess who's in them.  :)

Since there are a zillion kinescopes floating around, DRJMK, can't you give at least a hint?

Is anyone else a Reversi (AKA Othello) addict?  I freely admit I am hooked.  Are there mathematical formulae to determine what the best move is at any given moment?

Then it has to be Frances Farmer but i have no idea what television work she did.
If it had been a musical theatre broadcast like the Barbara Cook YEOMAN OF THE GUARD or BLOOMER GIRL, I'd be more interested!

You are correct, sir.  And she only did a smattering of live t.v., which is why these have been my elusive holy grail for so long.
