We just returned from a sweet, romantic dinner at Blue Moon. It's one of our restaurants in Chelsea. It's just busy enough to stay open but not so busy that's it's too crowded to enjoy yourself. We had a nice, relaxed dinner and then walked home. We would have stayed out a bit longer but the rain has returned. We watched the special features on the DVD of "Ziegfeld Girl" Knowing John Fricke made it a treat to see his intro. Now we are just winding down for the evening. Soon we will retire and then...romance again.

Elmore, and others, I've just booked my flight for the big weekend in New York, arriving at LaGuardia Friday, March 18, at 5:06pm and departing Monday, March 21, at 10:10am.  Can't wait!

One of the best Valentine's Days I had was last year.  DR's Laura and Sandra and I drove to Palm Springs for the day to see Jason Graae, Liz Callaway. Alex Rybeck, and the ever lovely (despite being E and T) Jay.

What a delight!!!!!!!

Although I have received some wonderful candy over the years, Valentine's Day has never been all that great.  Luckily I don't have high expectations for the day anymore.  Other "everydays" have had their fill of specialness that it more than makes up for Valentine's.

Rodzinski's Romantic LP recommendation:
Yes, friends of vinyl, run out and find the rare ANDY WILLIAMS SINGS STEVE ALLEN on Cadence CLP-1018 (CD fans can find it on Collectibles packaged with another LP).
What's that, you scoff? Andy Willams makes you sleepy? Well, this is a different Andy Willams, singing very soulfully, with a spare, jazzy accompaniment. He would never sound quite this good again. And the songs?
A wonderful version of "Picnic"
The gorgeous "Impossible"
The jubilant "All the Way Home"
The melancholy "Spring in Maine"
The sultry "Tonight"
Plus, "Young Love" (not the Tab Hunter one), "Lonely Love", and "Forbidden Love"

Follow your hearts to this forgotten classic.

Agreed!!

Then we drove home after the show, arriving home just as the sun came up.

Funny fact: I just ate at Blue Moon Friday night, if you are talking about the Mexican cafe. I had an insanely good chicken taco salad.

My DH does not buy me flowers on Valentine's Day or Mother's Day or any other Hallmark Holiday.

Rather, he brings me flowers whenever he hears friends or coworkers complain about their spouses/partners because he realizes I'm not so bad after all. So I never know when I am going to receive flowers. It's a nice surprise. I got flowers TWICE last week!

Good Evening!

Back from the Apple Store.  Fun workshop.  There were only two of us - workshopees - so we got to ask a lot of questions, and the whiz kid running the workshop also demonstrated some very neat and advanced tricks and techniques with the software.

Afterwards, I walked across the street to Whole Foods.  They were busy.  Then I realized all the "busy-ness" was restricted to the front part of the store.  Where the bouquets of flowers and gift baskets were.  Lots of husbands, wives and significant others trying to find a decent looking bunch of roses out of those that were still left in the bins.  But you got a free balloon with each bouquet purchased!

I passed on the roses and free balloon, and picked up some of their Spanish style cocktail nut mix - sooo addictive, as well as some chicken nuggets (on sale, and I needed the protein), as well as a small Jamba Juice.

Fun, huh?

Then came the drive back home in the dark and drizzle.  And now I'm sort of contemplating getting for bed already, which is very strange.  I guess the whole weekend - and the past couple of weeks - have finally caught up to me.  Just need the rest.  However, I must at least get my clothes packed up tonight before my trip back down to Richmond tomorrow.  I'll be back up this weekend just to visit - and I also need some good "Uncle Jojo" time with my nieces and nephew - so I don't have to bring everything back tomorrow.  Which is good since I doubt I could fit everything back in the car at this point since I kept bringing more stuff back up each week.

Spelinng izn't impurtint, DR ELMORE.

DRJRand54, it certainly is when you point it out to me!   :-*

I couldn't spell "sinning" right either!

I once got a badly typed letter from Lotte Lenya, which was full of crossed out words.  At the bottom she wrote in hand "it's a good thing I wasn't a secretary; I'd have starved to death."

I'm glad you included that second sentence, because I was wondering what you were doing in my neck of the woods.  The Blue Moon is one of the top restaurants in Rehoboth Beach.

elmore, what a daunting task you had.  I am mucho impressed!  I see now why you enjoy mysteries.  It's sort of like musical detective work in a way.

I'm somewhat amazed at how much dialogue from the original play survived in the film version.

JRand54, I have seen either most or part of The Stranger some time ago and remembering liking it and wondering why it wasn't a more well-known film.  So I am looking forward to getting around to it again and refreshing my memory of it.

I really must share my Valentine's present with all of you.  Fortunately, I was able to convince Brent (i.e. SMA) not to inscribe the photo to me "With Love," to protect both of our reputations! :) :) :)

Our romantic dinner tonight was a venison pot roast.  It came out on the dry side, but delish all the same.  I served it with roasted herbed potatoes, sauteed mushroom caps, and carrots that I had poached in pomegranate/apple cider along with dried cranberries and pecans.  Der Brucer was quite happy with the results.

Midway through the meal, Fletcher presented him with a leash.  We don't have to take the dogs for walks for any business reasons, just for pleasure, but the danged Dalmatian has got to learn that we don't do walks after sundown!

DRPogue, some days I feel like Sherlock Holmes and, on other days, like Roy Chapman Andrews looking for dinosaurs in the desert.  It's frustrating sometimes, but it's a job I do like.  And you're right:  I do like mysteries.  Also archaeology!

LOL I'm sure your house smell better than candles.  The Pumpkin spice cakes sounds yummy.  :)

Dr Ginny and DR Jane--
The website that you mentioned, Ginny, has great info on both Jacques Torres products and tours of his factory. That hot chocolate that I mentioned is known as "Wicked Hot Chocolate" and is incredibly rich. The information on how to order and tours of the chocolate factory are at
mrchocolate.com.

I can't help but picture Lucy and Ethel whenever I  hear the term chocolate factory.

Jed and Ann are you competing for the same job?

Yes, yes we are.  Not even the first time we've done so!  It is, however, the first time we've both gotten interviews for the same job.

Mine went rather well this afternoon and (in spite of my being male) I'll be having a second interview with them on Thursday!  Word is the big boss doesn't hire men for his support staff because he doesn't think we'll be as willing to take instructions from him... I don't get it, but whatcha gonna do?  Anyway, this position has the least involvement with him of any job at the firm, so I've still got a bit of a chance if I can suitably wow the two additional supervisors I'll meet at Thursday's interview.  The fun just never ends...

I found the following at the Van Gogh Vodka site.

CHOCOLATE MELON MARTINI
2 oz Van Gogh Dutch Chocolate Vodka
½ oz Van Gogh Melon Liqueur
Pour ingredient into cocktail shaker and add crushed ice.  Let stand for five seconds.  Shake vigorously for five seconds.  Strain into martini glass. Garnish with Hershey's Chocolate Kiss.
