LET ME CALL YOU SWEETHEART

Well, you've read the notes, you are now ready for Cupid's arrows to pierce your butt cheeks, and now it is time for you to post until the cows and their sweethearts come home.

And the word of the day is: MELON!  Of course, it must be said in one's best Jerry Lewis voice.  MELON!

Just a quick check-in while my sleeping aid (Tylenol P.M.) kicks in.

I took a much-too-long nap this afternoon and now find it difficult to sleep, so I'm calling in the big guns (one solitary Tylenol P.M. usually does the trick).

I had a most productive evening, ironing seven shirts and two pairs of cotton slacks.  I don't generally do this, but didn't get to the cleaners Friday or Saturday, so I decided to do it myself.

Now I've got it out of my system and can return to normal routine for a few months.

"Desperate Housewives" was very interesting this evening, and I especially liked that interesting character introduction of Karen McCluskey, the nasty old lady with a heart big as Texas.

VERY interesting development with Bree Van De Kamp learning of her husband's sexual needs for a dominatrix.  The "mind if I give the handcuffs a quick run through the dishwasher" line was hysterical.

Or maybe it's just me.

At any rate, I continue to love this series!

Spent the 10-11 p.m. hour watching a tour of the HGTV Dream House 2005 on Lake Tyler in Tyler, TX.  What a fabulous home.  One can imagine eating plenty of melon in the kitchens, dining room and on any of the various decks, breezeways, porches, balconies of that place.

The only Valentine's day I recall is 1966.  It was on that day that Australia converted its currency to decimal. Dollars and cents replacing pounds, shillings and pence.

No Ron, it's not just you.  That was hysterical...especially then seeing her take the handcuffs out of the dishwasher!

When they first said the name of Mrs, McCluskey, all I could think of was the line in the song "(The Oldest Established) Permanent Floating Crap Game In New York" from Guys and Dolls:

There's a stock room behind McKlosky's Bar, but Mrs. McKlosky ain't a good scout.

Glad I wasn't alone on that line, George.

TomofOz:  G'Day!

Valentine's Day:  I can't say I ever had any memorable ones.  Is that sad...or WHAT?!!!!!

I remember doing lots of craft-type things with construction paper and cut-out hearts and paste in grade school....and every student made a box for himself and herself and decorated it.  On Valentine's Day, we'd bring in Valentine cards and put them in the boxes of our "friends."  I'd always get a nice batch, but there were some students who seemed to get more cards than there were students in the classroom.  They were always girls, too.  Funny about that, huh?  :D

Nope, Ann left and did not deign to post.  Ornery, stubborn, obstinate, contrary.  We still wish her a Happy Valentine's Day, for we are none of the above.

Speaking of melon:  probably the first time that I ever had melon (I don't know if it was honeydew or cantaloupe) was when I was in 8th grade.  It was served with lunch and for some reason I decided to try it.  I ate it and didn't care for it at all (I still don't) and it just didn't agree with me.  I got a bit of a tummy ache.  Anyway, right after lunch, I went to my science class and students from one of the art classes had painted a Charlie Brown and Snoopy comic strip mural on the wall.  Well, let me tell you that I almost tossed my melon right then and there.  The smell of the paint and the icky melon made for one miserable 8th grader. :P

It's 1:00 a.m. (actually a little bit after, according to the official HHW clock at the top of the page) and I am going to go to sleep.  Good night, all. 8) (This is me asleep.)

Come to me, my MELON-choly baby!

At midnight, The Lovely Wife and I exchange Valentine's tokens and cards.  One giftie to the wife was a compliation of Sondheim songs from various Sondheim albums that BK produced for Varese.

I don't remember any terribly memorable, unusual Valnetine's Days.  We've had pleny of nice ones, but usually no big surprises.  We were on a plane to London one Valentine's Night and exchanged cards.  And we once in London for another Valentine's Day.

DR POGUE--what a wonderful gift to your lovely wife for Valentine's Day. I know that I would choose a compilation of thoughtfully chosen Sondheim songs any day.

When I worked for various airlines, we would be able to fly for free, and take a person for free a few days per year. One year I surprised my then-boyfriend with a trip to Paris for Valentine's Day. It was rainy, cold, and very romantic. We rode the little boats on the Seine ( les bateau mouches), walked around the Left Bank, toured museums, ate great food and drank wonderful wine. We enjoyed every moment. Broke up 2 weeks later.

It's a great photo, Iris, but I should have cropped my shoulder out of it.

Here's the Valentine card Julieanne gave me at one of those green room Valentine partys

I have no Valentines memories to share.  I have never been anyone's Valentine.  It's just another day for some of us.  *sigh*  Maybe someday my melon will come, until then, I will just wait here on the vine.
