JRand-I remember seeing FF on This is Your Life back when AMC was a watchable channel and showed things like that. My memory is of the host being a bit condescending, but I could be wrong. Anyways, it was the intro to FF for me.

Yes, Rodzinski, that was one of the AMC "This is Your Life:  The Classics" episodes that ran (and ran and ran) in 1990.  Unfortunately it's edited and cuts out one of the best moments:  at the end the ever-smarmy Mr. Ralph Edwards informs FF that her brother Wes couldn't come due to military obligations and FF's arched-eyebrowed reaction is, as BK would say, cherche.  For some reason they also cut out a whole little segment at the end with her getting even more than the fabulous 1958 Edsel.  :)

How old is sweet Charlotte?

DRvixmom, Charlotte turned 16 on Feb 13.

DRGinny, the Fraser bio of Marie Antoinette is fantastic!  I liked it immensely.

DRPogue, there's now a series of mysteries with Mrs Hudson, Sherlock's housekeeper!

Quote
'You may not have lived much under the sea--' ('I haven't,' said Alice)--'and perhaps you were never even introduced to a lobster--' (Alice began to say 'I once tasted--' but checked herself hastily, and said 'No, never') '--so you can have no idea what a delightful thing a Lobster Quadrille is!'

'No, indeed,' said Alice.  'What sort of a dance is it?'

'Why,' said the Gryphon, 'you first form into a line along the sea-shore--'

'Two lines!' cried the Mock Turtle.  'Seals, turtles, salmon, and so on; then, when you've cleared all the jelly-fish out of the way--'

'THAT generally takes some time,' interrupted the Gryphon.

    '--you advance twice--'

'Each with a lobster as a partner!' cried the Gryphon.

'Of course,' the Mock Turtle said:  'advance twice, set to partners--'

'--change lobsters, and retire in same order,' continued the Gryphon.

'Then, you know,' the Mock Turtle went on, 'you throw the--'

'The lobsters!' shouted the Gryphon, with a bound into the air.

'--as far out to sea as you can--'

'Swim after them!' screamed the Gryphon.

'Turn a somersault in the sea!' cried the Mock Turtle, capering wildly about.

'Back to land again, and that's all the first figure,' said the Mock Turtle, suddenly dropping his voice; and the two creatures, who had been jumping about like mad things all this time, sat down again very sadly and quietly, and looked at Alice.

'It must be a very pretty dance,' said Alice timidly.

I never "got" Cliff Robertson as an actor either.  I have done the play "Flowers for Algernon" which I think is better than the movie CHARLY.

I never saw the play or movie, but I did see the the musical version.  It was almost as frightening as CARRIE, the musical, but not nearly as stupidly conceived.

DRJennifer, Charlotte's mother, before she abandoned performing for production, was in the original Broadway casts of COMPANY, SEESAW, and JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR.

My Joe and I want to thank all the DRs for their wonderful vibes (and BK for his xylophones) for Angel Jim.

Alas, the Justice (?) System has done what it usually does and postponed everything.  I got a call last night from Jim's Mom saying the Parole Hearing had been put off another month.  No reason given.

Speculation:

1.  They only got his attorney's report a week ago and want to read it thoroughly.  (This would be good.)

2.  They read his attorney's report and want to investigate it and sic some appropriate State agency on the lying, brutal, evil upholders of the law.  (This would be better, but pigs don't fly.)

3.  They are just slow and incompetent.  (This is realistic.)

4.  They want to make him suffer another month.  (Naw!  Not consistent with American values, is it now?)

In any case sometime next month I'll probably be asking for more vibes, more xylophones, perhaps a timpany or two.  Thanks, all.

DRvixmom, Charlotte turned 16 on Feb 13.

It's nice to see that they are exposing the kids to Shakespeare at that age, although  "Bye Bye Birdie" and "Annie" , "Guys & Dolls" etc are fine, they are so overdone as High School Productions.

I remember seeing the Tempest at the Stratford , Ct. Shakespeare festival when I was about Charlotte's age.  I used to go on theatre trips with the local library, just me and about 30 blue haired ladies!!

And I hope you can make it in for the reading on the 18th.  That would be splendiferous.

I've already written more than I'd planned, so I shall not feel guilty to spend a few hours at the Courts show.  Nick Redman should be on his way here shortly, and then we shall be on our way after that.

DR Elmore, Charlotte's mother is Dona D. Vaughn?  Cool!

Sorry to have been a bit E&T lately, folks, but just been very busy at the office.

I know that there are several readers on this here board that are great fans of various reality TV shows, but suddenly it struck me:  Am I the only one here who is watching WICKEDLY PERFECT?  It's just too delicious....!  (Apparently, the DP and I  were the only ones who were watching THE FAMILY a couple of summers ago, as it got cancelled before ever revealing the winner -- sort of like this season's THE WILL.  Every once in a while one of us will turn to the other and say: " Do your think Dawn Marie won all the money on THE FAMILY?"

Re: SURVIVOR.  Last night was the first time I have watched it since Rob & Amber.  And in my purely biased, get-me-out-of-the-gutter way, I have to say:  That was FAR too pretty a boy not to have been picked for one of those teams!  If I'm on a beach for 39 days with little food, the least I can get me is some eye candy!

That's about it for now!

DRStuart, you should change your name to Hercule Poirot!  Charlotte has a lot of great theatre in her life:  Dona's best friend was the late great Anita Morris, and Charlotte's godmother is the talented Celia Weston.

And now, back to B&N! Because of the long weekend, the store is crazier than the usual Friday.  We ended up short a clerk this morning, so I spent two hours shelving in the fiction section; I did a lot of mysteries, which is how I learned about the Mrs Hudson series.  Au revoir, mes amis!

I've been watching WICKEDLY PERFECT too, although i'm not crazy about it. I like the idea.  But letting them vote out the best players is a terrible idea.

Also, re: THE FAMILY, did you see when they aired the last episodes?  I know I did (although it would take some prodding to remember who won, but i know your girl was top 3).

Not to continue on a downer, but I think I should explain the situation in Jim's case, although I alluded to it a bit last year.  The only charge is "resisting arrest"--for what crime?  Wasn't charged with one.

Jim cannot say what happened, because he was in a coma for two days afterward.  He now has two metal plates in his head.

The police stories are evidently all different:  He stepped out of the car and fell on the pavement.  They found him there when they found his car.  The tooth fairy did it.  Whatever.  So perhaps the members of the Parole Board, if they are not totally brain-dead, can speculate on what happened.

Sorry.  I just had to get that off my chest.
