I'm disappointed in the reviews for Drowsy Chaperone as well, although as Larry said (to paraphrase) it's a matter of taste. As much as I loved the show I know it's not to everyone's fancy. I have a couple of friends who saw it and were underwhelmed. I still love it and got great pleasure from seeing it. I hope it's successful.

I saw many reviews through CAST-REC List and it got better reviews from smaller papers and from Variety.

I think Clive Barnes needs to retire. What a sad old toad (yes, I said it and I mean it). Why is this man still taking up a theatre seat and actually having his reviews printed for the general public? But then he was the first string Theatre Critic for the New York Times in 1971 and panned Follies.

I've heard of neither Mr. Ms. Allens's passing nor of the Irving Berlin exhibit. I said before and I'll say it again,this is one gosh darn informative site with lots of knowlegeable people and I'm happy to be here!!

Just talked to a firiend whose husband is not all that wild about going to musical theater, and she said the Brantley review of DROWSY CHAPERONE made her husband really want to see the show. So maybe there's real hope for the show.

Mr Barnes has odd taste: he panned COMPANY and FOLLIES and loved CARRIE. Oy!

Clive Barnes is probably still coasting on the power his name had back in the 1970's and has managed to keep a career going.

I think Michael Riedel is the Post's real theater power, though. The Post seems to have real impact on the theater gossip beat, for worse or for worse.

Watched OLD CHRISTINE first this afternoon. Had several funny moments, but Julia Louis-Dreyfus' character just goes through embarrassment hell every single week. Would love if they could find some other comedy areas to pursue.

So basically, it was just like California today except the women had real breasts and men didn't hold hands.
