One of your famous well-worn VCR tapes?   ::)   ;)

No no!  Much less tasteful!

Good morning!

Overcast this morning, and it was sprinkling a little rain earlier, but looks like the big stuff isn't happening until later.

I'm back from a delicious Krispy Kreme breakfast (won't need any sugar for the next week or two) with best friend John while taking him back and forth to his car dealership. Wouldn't you know it? They had to send for a part, and the car will have to go back on Tuesday! Argh!

I finshed listening to the GOLDEN BOY CD (ported over from the original LP onto a CD by DR George), and I must say that Sammy's voice wasn't in nearly as bad a shape as I thought it would be.

Yes, his middle and lower registers are a bit hoarse, but just a bit, and his upper register is unaffected, other than maybe a tendency not to sustain notes for very long.

Amazing clout he must have carried to get Capitol to redo his most of his vocals and to reissue the LP with the new stuff (and the addition of the instrumental "The Fight" and the loss of the original LPs "Finale." The original vocals would certainly have been fine for a remembrance of the show.

I'll bet folks like Paul Wallace (on GYPSY) and Ron Holgate (on 1776) would LOVED to have been able to redo their vocals on their original cast albums. Of course, they did the film versions and recorded their music in excellent voice then.

Hello from Shiloh Inn of Vancouver WA! At more than twice the price, the bed was no better... but they have coffee IN THE ROOM!!! AND WIRELESS INTERNET!!! Not really worth the extra $$$, but I drove around this burg for nearly 20 minutes looking for a place to camp, and when I rolled in here, I just didn't want to roll another mile.

There is an ironing board and iron - wish I had something to spruce up! Thee is a hair dryer - would be great if I still had all that hair...
They provide free shampoo and conditioner. Well, THAT's nice!
There is a free breakfast buffet - ah, if only one ATE...
No sleep timer on the TV - this was a serious drawback.

Scoring: Most of the Shiloh 'amenities' - wasted on a guest like moi; Internet - Shiloh wireless vs. Motel 6 dial-up: equal ease and convenience; bed: equal on the AWFUL scale. TV - Motel 6 had a timer. Price: Motel 6 cost less than half. Guess where Aunt Penny will be staying most of the time she goes on the road without an expense account???

GEORGE!!! Happy Birthday, Dear Boy! I'll be whizzing by your neighborhood on my way to the cabin this morning, and wishing you all the very best. And it will be so nice to finally meet you next weekend!

I had a swell visit with Jane and Keith yesterday. Jane and I had a lovely walk along the stream, through the forest, to the lookout over the valley where cattle grazed peacefully in the sun. And everywhere the lemony green of another spring. I missed most of the Lassner daffodils, but was in time for some amazing tulips - bright crimson with yellow markings, some of the biggest, fattest tulips I ever saw! And the house looks so beautiful - the new cabinets and granite counters in the kitchen, the breakfast bar, all the small details - well, it sure has taken long enough!! The wonderfullest thing about that house: the rooms are huge, but you never get a feeling other than cozy, easy, intimate. Must have something to do with the people who live there and make it a home...

POINTS TO PONDER

Let's face it - English is a crazy language. There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in  pineapple. English muffins weren't invented in England or French fries in France. Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat. We take English for granted. But if we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.

And why is it that writers write but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham? If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth, beeth? One goose, 2 geese. So one moose, 2 meese? One index, 2 indices? Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend? If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one ofthem, what do you call it?

If teachers taught, why didn't preachers praught? If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat? Sometimes I think all the English speakers should be committed to an asylum for the verbally insane. In what language do people recite at a play and play at a recital? Ship by truck and send cargo by ship? Have noses that run and feet that smell?

How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites? You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out and in which, an alarm goes off by going on.

English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects the creativity of the human race, which, of course, is not a race at all. That is why, when the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible.

I'm up, I'm up.  Quite groggy (someone is building a house nearby and they start at seven, so that woke me up, but I was stubborn and fell back asleep).  Miss Rush will be here at eleven so I have to get my faculties together.  Have you ever gotten your faculties together and if so did they discuss higher or lower learning?

I've wondered about that...do the story writers get a percentage, or was it a flat upfront fee?

It's always nice to have someone mention your name in an interview (unless, of course, it's in reference to a restraining order.)

Very nice Spirtas article!

Just got this notice for those who expressed interest a few weeks ago:

On Saturday, May 6th, 5.00pm ET on Animal Planet watch the Twentieth Anniversary Genesis Awards TV Special, produced by the Hollywood Office of The Humane Society of the United States. The Genesis Awards honors the news and entertainment media for raising awareness of animal issues and will provide some great examples of “animal content in entertainment.”

I've been given conflicting stories on when it's on PT. I've been told both 2 (which is what it says on the TV Menu and the TV Guide -- and makes sense in terms of ET) -- but have also been told 5. Have no idea which is correct.
