Ah, yes...  "The Moustache" hit his head a few weeks ago... And seems to be behaving erratically right now... Which in the case of Victor Newman, means he is acting nice and compassionate.  In fact, he just bought a new puppy for Nikki.  -And the dog's name is "Sapato" - since he likes to chew up shoes...

I'm going to jog as soon as she of the Evil Eye is in the house, because if I don't do it now, I won't do it when it's 100 degrees later.

And continuing my list for the Topic of the Day...

Campbell Scott - "Longtime Companion"
Colin Farrell - "A Home At the End of the World"
Gene Wilder - "Willy Wonka & and The Chocolate Factory"
Henry Thomas - "E.T. the Extraterrestrial"

...I think that makes 10... And quite an eclectic it is... Isn't it?

-Maybe I need more coffee... and/or maybe I need my nap.

Just had a lovely lunch of half a pork tenderloin sandwich (leftover from last night's dinner) and an apple.  I'm going for a little walk, before my afternoon of information-waitressing.

Bye for now.

Hmm... I guess the editorial staff is off on the weekends over at Playbill.com... This morning's main headline (at least of 12:57pm here in NYC):

It was totally HOT here yesterday and my house was baking when I arrived home.  Turned on the A/C  and kept it on until my bedtime six hours later.

I had the fans going and it was tolerable...but I was fretful until about 2:30 a.m. or 3 a.m....when it finally cooled down.

Forecast is for hotter day today.

Sigh.

Top male performances in film --

I like many of those which have been named already, to which I'd ad:

Russell Crowe -- Gladiator
Philip Seymour Hoffman -- Capote
Viggo Mortensen -- Lord of the Rings trilogy
Sir Anthony Hopkins -- Silence of the Lambs
Robert Redford -- Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
Paul Newman -- Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
Matt Damon -- The Talented Mr. Ripley
Jeff Bridges -- Starman

And a slightly different take on:

Gene Wilder -- Young Frankenstein
Peter O'Toole -- The Ruling Class

Re:  Patton.  As some here may know (can't remember if I've mentioned it before), my father was a battalion commander under Patton and his adjutant during the North Africa campaign.  My dad was a consultant (uncredited) on the film and was invited to the Seattle premiere as an honored guest (he was Senior Officer at Ft. Lewis at the time), and he brought me as his semi-honored guest  :).  This was a big deal--krieg lights, red carpet, even an opening act of patriotic tunes on the big organ that rose up out of the pit.   In fact, if you watch the film, one of Patton's adjutants in the film is named "Coughlin" and we've wondered if that was a slight reworking of my Dad.  Anyhoo, two things--my Dad was in the battalion that Patton had to apologize to after slapping the shell-shocked soldier (try saying that three times fast).  My Dad snuck a camera in and took pics of Patton apologizing.  It's been driving me crazy since I inherited my Dad's stuff because I can't find those particular snapshots--I think my Dad, in his idiocy of what these would be worth on eBay today  :o, sent them to a friend of his.  I found a letter to that effect in my Dad's effects and I actually called the guy, who was a semi-senile old fart (sorry) who was extremely confused as to who I was and who my Dad was.

But in terms of the film itself, yes, it's brilliant--but I'll never forget my Dad's whispered comment to me as the film started with Scott's monologue.  "Well, he may look like Patton, but he sure as hell doesn't sound like him--Patton had a high, squeaky voice like a little girl's."  ;)  Maybe that could be the obstacle the young Patton strives to overcome in the remake.

Back from my morning drive-bys.  Shipped everything, picked up a package (one package is still due - overdue by now), and now I am home.  I though I had the whole afternoon to myself, but Kevin wants to come here to watch the video and make notes, because where he's staying they don't have a VHS machine (unbelievable).

Well, not that quite unbelievable... Been to Best Buy, Tower Records and Video, Circuit City lately... Nary a VHS tape in sight... And stand alone VCRs are also getting hard to come by now - I see more of those VCR/DVD combos on the shelves lately.  -And when I do come across a VCR, they're usually more expensive than the DVD player on the next shelf.

..Just an observation...

I shall indeed, whenever he arrives.  It's really hot outside.  I actually had to turn the air conditioning on for a while.  I reallllly want pizza, but I think I'll try to hold off until tomorrow.  In the meantime, I have to eat now because I won't have time later.  So, what to eat.  Pizza would be so easy, wouldn't it?  Just a couple of slices from Wolgang Puck.  So easy.

TOD:

James Cagney - Yankee Doodle Dandy
Michael Douglas - An American President
Robert Duvall - Tender Mercies
Richard Gere - An Officer and a Gentleman
Tom Hanks - Philadelphia and Toy Story (how's that for contrast?)
Kevin Kline - The Big Chill
Alfred Molina - Chocolat
Geoffrey Rush - Shakespeare in Love
Rod Steiger - Dr. Zhivago

No offense BUT Mr Molina in Chocolat????

That has to be one of the most embarrassing parts to be played by an actor! And I was embarrassed for him!
I hope the pay was good!

As for the Topic of the Day...

Jacques Perrin - "Cinema Paradiso"
Leonardo DiCaprio - "Catch Me If You Can" - And I'm usually not a fan of Leo.
Kevin Spacey - "The Usual Suspects"
Gerard Depardieu - "Tous les matins du monde"
Phillippe Noiret - "Il Postino"
Dustin Hoffman - "Tootsie"

...And that's about all for now... We'll see what happens once my café au lait kicks in.

No offense BUT if you select Mr Noiret for Il Postino, what about Massimo Troisi for same film!?

He IS the film!

TOTD

Johnny Depp for ED WOOD.

Leo DiCaprio for What's Eating Gilbert Grape.

Matthew Modine AND Nicolas Cage for Birdy.

Richard Gere for Blood Brothers. (LOVE that film!
Older brother Chubby (Paul Sorvino) is a combative, booze-swilling, rough-edged construction worker, following in the footsteps of his brother Tommy (Tony Lo Bianco). Macho in the extreme, these fellows have no time for the sensitive moral quandaries which are at the heart of the two younger brothers' lives. Stony (Richard Gere), has worked with his father in the construction business, but longs to work with children. Albert (Michael Hershewe), the youngest, is a sensitive lad, the butt of his father and oldest brother's rough manner, and is constantly being harassed by his stressed-out mother (Lelia Goldoni). After a few attempts to communicate with his insensitive older brother and his parents, Stony must decide for himself if the rejection he will experience from his family on leaving the construction business is worth it; and if it is, what can be done to protect his younger brother from the rest of the family? ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide)

George Clooney in...... anything!

Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins! (I'm joking!!)

etc etc etc......
