Heading down now to mop the kitchen floor. Then, depending on how hot it is, I may (or may not) mow the front yard.

Circuit board has been repaired, air is on, and it will probably take a half-hour to cool this puppy down.  I'll leave it on while I'm at dinner, then it should be sweet upon my return.

I've had a 90-minute break from my Dad, so I went to Staples for a few supplies, Borders for a book to take on after I finish WILL IN THE WORLD, and a pizza place for a dinner sub.  My brother and sister-in-law have to step out tonight, so I'm going over in 30 minutes to stay with my Dad till they return.

I spent part of the afternoon sitting on the porch while my father's home care nurse interviewed him.  The view from the porch is quite stunning, and I was surrounded by the hummingbirds circling the feeder on the porch and fanned by a light breeze.  I plumb forgot about New York for a while.

Yes, DR Elmore, we've been having some delightful porch-sitting weather the last few days, haven't we?  It's supposed to start warming up again tomorrow, though.

Three creaky wooden stairs
Those squeaky rocking chairs
The well worn welcome mat
The lattice vines
The happy times

All I want to do
When the day is through
Is linger here on the front porch
With you
From the wicker swing
While the night birds sing
We'll watch the fireflies sparkin'
Do some sparkin' too
How the hours fly
As the moon drifts by --
How sweet the air
As we stare
At the sight
Oh! How I love to linger here like this
Hold your hand, and steal a kiss
Or two
On the front porch with you

All I want to do
When the day is through
Is linger here on the front porch
With you
From the wicker swing
While the night birds sing
We'll watch the fireflies sparkin'
Do some sparkin' too
(Some sparkin' too!)
How the hours fly
As the moon drifts by --
How sweet the air
As we stare
At the sight

Oh! How I love to linger here like this
Hold your hand, and steal a kiss
Or two
On the front porch with you

With excuses to Mr Ira Gershwin

Ginny made her mind up when she was three
She herself was going to trim the Christmas tree
Christmas Eve she lit the candles, tossed the tapers away
Little Ginny was an orphan on Christmas day

Poor Ginny, bright as a penny
Her equal would be hard to find
She lost one dad and mother, a sister and a brother,
But she would make up her mind

Ginny made her mind up when she was twelve
That into foreign languages she would delve
But at seventeen to Vassar, it was quite a blow
That in twenty-seven languages she couldn't say no
Poor Ginny, bright as a penny
Her equal would be hard to find
To Ginny I'm beholden, her heart was big and golden
But she would make up her mind

Jenny made her mind up at twenty-two
To get herself a husband was the thing to do
She got herself all dolled up in her satins and furs
And she got herself a husband--but he wasn't hers

Poor Ginny, bright as a penny
Her equal would be hard to find
Deserved a bed of roses, but history discloses
That she would make up her mind

Ginny made her mind up at fifty-one
She would write her memoirs before she was done
The very day her book was published, history relates,
There were wives who shot their husbands in some thirty-three states

Ginny made her mind up at seventy-five
She would live to be the oldest woman alive
But gin and rum and destiny play funny tricks,
And poor Jenny kicked the bucket at seventy-six
Ginny points a moral with which you cannot quarrel,
Makes a lot of common sense--
Jenny and her saga prove that you're gaga
If you don't keep sitting on the fence

Ginny and her story point the way to glory
To all man and womankind
Anyone with vision comes to this decision--
Don't make up your mind

This one is dedicated to DR Tomovoz!
He'll understand!
 Little Red Monkey

Performed by: Joy Nicholas, Jimmy Edwards, and Dick Bentley
Distributed by: EMI Music Distribution

Look at the monkey, funny monkey
Little red monkey, acting so fidgety

Look at the monkey, funny monkey
Little red monkey, cute as can be

Where is his mama, papa, sister, brother, cousin, rest-of-the-family?
Little red monkey, on his own, some very lonesome monkey is he

Listen carefully, Dick and Jimmy, 'cause here is a job for you (what is it?)
If you get him into the zoo (the zoo?)
He'd do all of his tricks for you (joy!)

Why not drop him a line or two (what for?)
Inviting him to the zoo
For if we do (then what?)

He'll be a happy, snappy monkey
Little red monkey acting so merrily
We hope you like this little red monkey
Very lonesome monkey is he

Look at the monkey, funny monkey
Little red monkey, acting so fidgety

Get out your fiddle and play him a tune, Dick
Very lonesome monkey is he

That was ghastly!
Don't think the monkey liked that medley
Seems to be jumpy, acting so fidgety

You cheer him up, Jimmy, with your euphonium
Little red monkey, cute as can be

Oh, Jim, didn't he love it too? (I got it right!)
If you listen, he'll talk to you
He will chatter the whole day through
(monkey sounds)

Now he's a snappy, happy monkey
Little red monkey acting so merrily
See how we like this little red monkey
Very troublesome monkey is he

Little red monkey
Little red monkey
Won't you stay to tea?

(monkey sounds)
He said yes!

Let me get this straight - I leave at four and three hours later we've had five posts for a total of 103 postings by seven o'clock.  This will NOT do, and we will most surely achieve a new all-time low at this rate, without a proper frenzy or three.  I was going to do a trivia contest tomorrow but not with this kind of attendance.

Genghis Cohen was, as always, faboo - one of the great Chinese restaurants ever.  Jason Graae stopped by and signed his contract and Nick and I had a great supper - orange chicken (the best anywhere), Schezuan green beans (the best anywhere), mooshoo pork (the best anywhere).
