Success!!!  I just spent about an hour searching for some pictures of a project DR Elmore and I were working on 30 years ago today.  After almost giving up, I found them and can hardly wait to share them tonight!  Maybe we could scan a couple...

Should I be afraid?

No-o-o-o, but you'll be surprised!

I've been very fortunate to have had great bosses.  Of course, I've only worked in two places in my life (Western Washington University Music Library and Timberland Regional Library Service Center).  A couple of my friends at work have new bosses and are having very hard times with them.  Not good.  They're both looking for new jobs. :-\ They're my two best friends here at work and they both want to leave!  What am I gonna do?

Nice and overcast this morning - so it has cooled off a bit.

TOD - hmmmm.... only really had one "civilian" job in my life - 5 months in the accounting department of Gulf Oil Company in Century City, CA when I was 19. That sort of iced my cake - never had another regular job. It got so bad that I resisted going to sleep at night, cuz it meant that when I woke up I would have to go there. Just hammer away at an adding machine for 8 hours a day, counting minutes to coffee breaks, and treasuring the half hour of NOT IN THE OFFICE for lunch... I realized that if I knew I would have to do work like that, 40 hours a week, for twenty or thirty years, I would cheerfully kill myself.

There is no poverty or lack or rejection or humiliation that makes Showbiz Not Worth It; and no steady paycheck or benefits or "normal life" that makes any other kind of work remotely attractive.

I did have an endless Dinner Theater run of Man of La Mancha in Orlando, Florida about twenty-five years ago... read about it in Jewish Thighs... but, as bad as it got, it still involved a costume and make-up and an audience. And it WAS Man of La Mancha, after all...

Here I am!

-And, yes, I did end up leaving my respective town - and a few others - over the past couple of days.  (See above post.)

And, once again, I'd like to the Thank the Ford Motor Company for making such a fine vehicle, my 1993 Ford Escort Wagon.  Yes, the cooling system may need a tune-up, but it averaged 38 miles per gallon (highway) over the first part of this holiday weekend.  Yes, the gas prices are ridiculous, but at least the great mileage helped to ease that financial pain.

227,000 Miles and Still Going!!!

Otherwise, it seems things are starting to pick up again work-wise - which is making things pick-up morale-wise too.  Details to come...

Well, I'm going to attempt to catch up...

Laters...

...And since they're saying that today will most likely be the hottest day of the year (so far) here in Richmond, it sounds like a good "excuse" to stay inside in the A/C and surf the web for a while.

Got a loaner computer.  Mine goes back to apple on Wednesday, and hopefully they can turn it around in short order.

This is the older version of my laptop, and while a bit slower, seems to work fine, and once again I'm using my backup drive, so it's basically my computer in different clothing.

Speaking of short order, Skip is making a feast using some of the cooking school recipes.  It already smells great.

We finally gave in and ordered a new scanner, which should arrive Thursday (that's what next day delivery gets you when you order on a holiday weekend :) ).  Finally threw out the piece of decorative furniture that was the old broken scanner.

New York 1 is forecasting dangerous weather for late afternoon to very early evening on July 4th in NYC.  But they say it should pretty much clear up for the fireworks.

Where in tarnation IS everyone?  I didn't have a chance to jog this morning, and I'm not sure if it's too darn hot to jog now, which means I may have to wait until this evening.  We shall see.

Tonight I am going to a birthday party. It's my mom's best friend's 60th birthday.

Hopefully since many people are off today there will not be any traffic.

One good thing about going to said birthday party is that her two little grandchildren will be there.  The little boy is about 4 and VERY cute!

Tonight while I am gone I will record Canadian Idol and Treasure Hunters (new episode at 9pm).

I'm curious, will anyone here be watching ROCK STAR SUPERNOVA when it starts on Wed?

I'm gathering that a bunch of you will be watching BIG BROTHER (can't remember if it starts on wed or thurs). Can't wait to see who was selected. I wonder if there are any spoilers about that one.

I just got back from lunch (Subway) and was going to get my hair cut (so that I'll look smashing for Sunday's PNW HHW get-together), but the place that I go (only $10!) was closed.  I'll try again on Wednesday or I may have to wait until next week.

Back from my dental appointment, where I had the prep for a crown on the tooth that I broke on Friday.  Also got the news that the tooth right in front of today's problem needs a root canal  :P

So, three weeks from tomorrow, the day of my regularly-scheduled 6-month check-up, I will have that, the root canal, and the permanent crown to replace the temporary I'm now wearing.  Yay, another day off!

It is into the 90s here and miserably hot. Other than an errand I ran around 11:30, I've been inside all day and will remain here. Far too hot and humid to be doing anything outside.
