I received a package from the UK yesterday (and I was shocked at how fast it arrived) - the I, Claudius miniseries, which I'm really looking forward to viewing based on all that I read here.  I'd held off getting the region one version because of all the negative comment about the quality.  Then I went to amazon.uk and apparently the UK release is MUCH better quality, like night and day.  It was fairly inexpensive, too, and also included some cool extras like interviews with the actors, etc.  Like the region one, it also has the wonderful The Epic That Never Was documentary about the aborted Josef von Sternberg film version with Charles Laughton.

I spent the morning cleaning the homestead and making a Petco run. I absolutely hate to clean house and have way too much stuff, so when I'm in a tossing and cleaning mood, I generally have to go with it as long as possible.

I am watching a bizarre GEICO commercial with Burt Bacharach (at least it looks like him) sitting at the piano singing while a woman tells her story...he's singing "I hope I never get hit in the rear".... I couldn't make that up

Well, I'm about to go upstairs to the office to print off the trivia question and start working on it.  We'll see where it goes,

Another superb version of Easy to Be Hard can be heard on the 1969 Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 effort Ye-Me-Le.  Lani Hall has never belted better and that minor 9 voicing at the end is groooovvvvy.

Actor George Clooney and partner director Steven Soderburgh separate.

I guess the romance went sour.

Yet another celebrity marriage bites the dust!

Make sure you hydrate, BK...and anyone else who's going to be outside for any length of time!!  The temperature here in Olympia yesterday was 101į F!  There's an article in today's Olympian that says:

The thermometer at Olympia Regional Airport rose to a record 101 degrees Friday. The previous record for July 21 was 96 degrees, set in 1994. Three other Washington cities also set records: Vancouver at 104, Seattle at 97, and Hoquiam at 90.

Temperatures of 100 and higher have happened only eight times in Olympia since 1948, said Ted Buehner, a National Weather Service meteorologist based in Seattle.

The highest temperature ever recorded in Olympia was 104 degrees on Aug. 9, 1981. The last time it hit 100 degrees was July 28, 1998.

I have to go to work today, and my building is literally right next to the Olympia Airport!  AND I don't think they turn on the air conditioning on the weekends! :P Maybe they will today, but I don't know.  I'll find out soon enough. :-\

Books that have never been adapted properly to the screen TARZAN, SHE, KING SOLOMON'S MINES.

And still not adapted: "A Princess of Mars" (though Paramount has the latest try "John Carter of Mars" on hold).

I think I have a summer cold:  I am headachey, my throat is fuzzy, and I don't want to do anything but sleep.  I just called DR Jose and cancelled the movie date, hoping perhaps we can do it tomorrow.  I hate this.

I find THE PRINCESS BRIDE extrememly watchable and magical. Probably one of the movies I've seen the most in my life. But I never read the book, so there was nothing to be disappointed by.

The toes on her right foot are being made up as French maids.

The toes on her left foot are being made up as Victoria's Secret models.

Cillaliz-Iíll see if I can get tickets for the 5th.  I need to check with my niece & my friends in Pennsylvania (you met one of them).  I also need to find out if the other friend, who recently had the lung surgery, will be up to meeting me in NY or if I will need to go visit her.

Speaking of being up for the walking/eating tour..... Jose I donít know if I can do another eating tour.  I would like to go to get some marbled halvah at Russ & Daughters, marzipan at Brunoís bakery and maybe get Keith some more charms at Economy Candy, but only if it is convenient.  If Iím in the area, I would like to check out the jewelry at-hmmm-where did I get my watch & earrings?
