Farewell, I am off to work and then a night time monopoly game with my friends. This time we are trying sizzler out, although we are usually  at IHOP. The unfortunate part about Sizzler is that unlike IHOP it is NOT open 24 hrs, but luckily they do have a buffet...we shall see. We are the MIDNIGHT MONOPOLY BRIGADE!!!!!!

Back from Xeroxing but had a message from David Wechter - not feeling well, so we're postponing our work session for today.

In other breaking news, and I am really saddened and even annoyed by this - our two baby birds flew the coop yesterday.  As you know, I felt mommy bird was not there enough towards the end, and that, coupled with the extreme heat, made babies impatient and miserable.  I sensed yesterday that they'd be flying off soon - they were sitting up the whole day, flapping away.  But, it was too soon, mother wasn't there, and they took off and unfortunately couldn't stay airborne and flew right into the pool where they drowned.

Well, I suppose I did everything I could to insure that mom and babies were never bothered or scared in their nest (I refused to let anyone use the patio doors near the nest), and once they fly the coop, they're on their own.

BK - We've assumed there's no point in trying to get you to come to Seattle (you'd be flown out - or up - of course) on August 4th,  because of the LACC cabaret series conflicting.  Obviously, if the cabaret series could do without your presence for the one night, the offer is very much there.

I so appreciate that, FJL, but alas I must be there.  I also have a major event I'm supposed to go to on the 5th, but can't be there, either.

I just scooped the birds out of the pool and buried them in the garbage can.

I had a good time out and about and now I'm in for the duration; I've got too much going on to be feeling puny.

I do need to call my dad this afternoon and check on him, and beyond that, I shall lie here like so much fish and perhaps watch some telly.

My bird eulogy:

Bye bye birdies
You flew the coop and drowned
Bye bye birdies
You won't be around

Bye bye birdies
It was too hot for you
Bye bye birdies
And I'll miss you, too

I'll miss the way you chirp
As though it was for me
I'll miss you in your nest
Why did you have to flee

Bye bye birdies
I'm gonna miss you so
I'll cry birdies
Guess you had to go
Guess you had to go
Guess you had to go
Bye bye

George and TCB - Did you guys ever answer whether you wanted me to get you (on us) that two-ticket membership for the Village Theatre Festival of New Musicals?  Here's a link to the whole line-up, in case you're interested in more info.  The Last Starfighter presentation is on Friday night 8/4 and the panel on Movies to Musicals is late afternoon on Sat. 8/5.

If the guys aren't going to use that opportunity, I shore would like to! Love to meet you, and see Starfighter; and to see Alison and Kim's (the true original, from which the B'way version was STOLEN!!) Little Women!

The babies and I are almost comatose today.  This is the third insufferable day of heat in a row here in Tacoma.  How did I ever survive summers in New York with the humidity, when I can't endure the 96 degree temperatures here with lower humidity?  Oh, maybe because I had air conditioning when I was back east!

How horrible about the baby birds, and how horrible that you had to find them, Bruce.  My sympathies.

I went outside and cut down the lillies that were all drooping and dying...they will grow bafk when the weather cools down...but boy was I a sweaty mess after being out there for 1/2 hour.

Now I am showered and listening to Tito Puente.

Today, I began a quest for a new chair for my desk here at home.  I've been improvising with various chairs from around the house ever since we decided it was time to pitch the white vinyl swivel chair that my parents bought for my first study desk when I was in 7th grade.  Staples had a big ad in today's papers for all desk chairs 10-50% off.  Didn't find exactly what I want - not too bulky, swivel, casters, blue, not too expensive.  Any suggestions?

Once the babies leave the coop, one cannot protect them.  And life goes on and on and on and on.

Going to get some chow shortly, then I'll watch some more I, Claudius, then I'll do a spot of writing, then I'll watch some more I, Claudius, unless I take a break, I, Claudius-wise, and watch a motion picture.

Rodzinski's sister spend another weekend with us so we have been a bit E&T.  Last night on our way to a friend's party, I felt myself coming down with a cold (I guess that explains why I had been so drowsy the preceding 24 hours) so I spent a good portion of today in bed watching a marathon of Making the Band 3 on VH1.  But now I'm up!

Well, I submitted an answer for the Unseemly Trivia Contest earlier this morning (before I went to sleep...at 2:45 a.m.).  I hope I got it.  Although, I'm not sure I did because of the specific wording that BK used for one part of his question.  I still sent it in because EVERYTHING else fit perfectly.  We'll find out soon enough. ;)
