I'm tiiiiiired, and I can't jog until after she of the Evil Eye leaves.  I do have to go to the post office and get some packages on their merry way.

CURTAINS was most enjoyable. I know they are still making changes and I don't want to post any spoilers, so I won't say much, but I really liked it and it the rest of the audience did as well.

I got behind on my cleaning schedule, so I didn't get to mopping the kitchen floor until this morning, but thankfully that chore is out of the way.

Now, it's time to head down and think about what's for lunch.

The idea of today's topic is flop plays and musicals you've actually seen where you loved the show that was roundly panned by critics and other audience members.  For me, play would be Peter Barnes' Time Of The Barracudas.

Matt! You got off schedule??  I hope it was for some very fun reasons.  I do mean this in jest.  If only I could be as disciplined about cleaning as you are, my house would actually be all put away and clean...that would be amazing.

Thus far we've had one guess for the trivia contest - and it was correct.

TOD - my my my (that's 3 my's) being an Andrew Lloyd Webber fan, where do I start??  LOL

I have convinced DP Eric that seeing new shows, as panned as they are, is a great things to do and how we love bad theatre as much as good theatre.  In the past few years, SF has preimeired a few new shows, the one I really enjoyed was The Mambo Kings it had a horrid book, but the music was a lot of fun.  Lennon was just boring as all hell with no redeeming qualities whatsoever.  I still hit myself to this day for not having seen Lestat when it previewed in SF.    When Martin Guerre played the Ahmanson in LA, I took a special trip down to see it.  The first act was really good, the second act fell on it's face within 5 minutes.  I do love the score, though.

Much to my amazement, I think I've solved the quiz and will submit my answer while eating my lunch.

I think most of my knowledge of flops (musicals, anyway) comes from OCRs, so I guess I'll sit out the TOD.

So I have a non-Ask BK Day Ask BK question:  Who is Anthony Cooper in Deceit?  Maybe you mentioned this on one of my E&T days, but I sure can't figure it out.

I was thrilled by the Broadway play FRANKENSTEIN in previews and was shocked by its closing after one night.

I guess BIG doesn't count for the TOD since it did get a good NY Times review, although it clearly flopped commercially.

My most "embarrassing" guilty pleasure has to be BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE GOES PUBLIC, which I saw once in previews and again on opening night; the daily NY Times critic was vicious, but the Sunday NY Times critic (back when they did that Sunday review thing in the NY Times) was quite positive.  I had a great time, even if it crossed the boudnaries of good atste from time to time.

Off-Broadway, I'd say DESSA ROSE is a real personal favorite that the critics somehow didn't take to.

Also, VIOLET did not get a good NY Times review, but I love it.

How 'bout those pancakes and boysenberry syrup that Jane was recommending the other night?

I don't think I have personally seen any flop musicals in person, unless you can count JEKYLL AND HYDE, although I did like Robert Cuccioli's performance.  I have, however, appeared in several productions of HIT musicals, that we managed to turn into flop productions.

Even though people didn't like Jekyl and Hyde. it ran for quite a long time, is it still considered a flop??

I get to see Bruce!  I get to see Jason Graae!  I get to see Dear Readers Laura and Sandra!  Who could ask for anything more?  Ethel Merman might ask for more, but not me!!!!    Maybe I could wear my pet pailletted gown.  Better not, I'm not sure what the rule is about paillettes before Labor Day.

Nobody seemed to enjoy the musical JAMES JOYCE'S THE DEAD as much as I did.

According to the flight pattern they show on the airline's website, Skip is now officially three hours earlier.  So if he ever says duirng this trip, "that's three hours of my life I'll never get back," I'll remind him.

There's some sort of logic there, I just can't explain it.

What day are you flying into Seattle, FJL?  As far as I know, you can't fly directly into Issaquah.

Der Brucer and I both enjoyed Kat and the Kings.  The critics in NYC didn't get it, the audiences didn't show up, too bad.
