DRs PennyO and Jane, more on conquering fear: Emmett Miller, MD, who specializes in mind-body medicine, produces a wide array of audio tapes on various topics, including one titled "Freeing Yourself from Fear." I have not heard this one myself, but I've used several of his other tapes and have found them very useful. See drmiller.com. His staff are also helpful about details not on the website.

Good morning, all!  The body does not want to move today, and the mind is lagging as well.  Perhaps it's been all the rain, perhaps I'm thinking about winter hibernation, perhaps I'm coming down with something, perhaps I'm giving in to my usual lazy instincts.  All I know is, at 6:30 the alarm went off, and at 9:20 I decided to get out of bed, finish the choral arrangement for THE SINGING NUN, go to the post office, and if there's time, tidy up this dump.

Isn't PARACLETE a play by Shakespeare?

Thanks, Donald for another good radio show. I'm not generally a fan of ALW but there is something about Evita that I like. It was nice to hear all the different recordings, including Elaine Paige before she got so broad and forced.

Wednesday morning greetings, officially.  DRs Ben and I "rode the bus" with Danise early this morning.

Question for BK:  Is the Playbill item about the Skinner/Ripley recording the reason you'll be going to NYC later in October?

Staying home.

Resting.

Going back to bed now.

I've been listening to the CD release of KISMET with Dorothy Kirsten and the late, great Gordon MacRae.  It doesn't hld a candle to the OBC, but I'm enjoying it immensely.  While MacRae - who does both the Caliph and Hajj on the dsc - sounds as good as Alfred Drake, his attitude still strikes me as more of the juvenile Caliph role.  Dorothy Kirsten, whose early career included productions of operettas like THE NEW MOON, was underused on recordings: a lovely soprano and great diction.  The disc also includes studio names that always intrigued me:  Bunny Bishop and Salli Terri!

I thought Parkeet was a brand of margarine.   :-\

The Randy Vicar and the Bunny Bishop?  That's a story I'd like to hear!

I just got an email from our DR Jose:  he had a good rehearsal of the band last night, and there are more rehearsals to follow and adjustments to be made.  He sounds cheerful and in good spirits.  I'm sure he's exhausted as well.

Well, THAT cat's out of the bag.  It's what I've been alluding to, but I wasn't quite ready to announce yet.  This morning I got a note from the guy at Playbill, asking for confirmation, but that article was obviously up before the confirmation was sent.

So, yes, that's the reason for the second NY trip in mid-October.  We're very excited to be recording Al and Em again.

Good morning!

Already muggy and uncomfortable outside. Yuck! Rain and cooler temperatures arrive tonight and through Friday, but for now, it's still summer, and I'm not happy about it.

Last night, DR JRand wrote:

"I just watched CACTUS FLOWER - and one of its settings is Stereo Heaven "in the village" a record store where Goldie/Toni works.  Lots of Capital albums....and all the underscoring in The Slipped Disk were instrumentals of Boyce/Hart tunes....."

My vaguest memory of the record shop scenes in the film is that at one point, you can clearly see the cast recording of MAME in the background! My kind of record shop!  :D

Sorry to read of your cold, DR Ron. A summer cold is the worst, though, of course, living in cool northern California, it's not as hot there and thus maybe not as miserable as a cold in the deep South in summer.

Still, I know it's annoying and hope you get better soon.

I am still SO delighted about getting THE YELLOW ROLLS ROYCE in a good quality copy yesterday. Though my birthday is still a few days away, I consider it a terrific birthday present from TCM. Thank you, Ted Turner!

TOnight I am looking forward to the season premiere of BONES, one of my favorite of last year's new shows.

However, I'm looking even MORE forward to Victor Garber's new series JUSTICE. He's supposedly playing a part miles and miules removed from the internally brooding Jack Bristoe on ALIAS, and the show has gotten mostly positive reviews from the ones I've read. Can't wait to see it.

Since the 10 p.m. hour is vacant on my schedule tonight, I'm thinkthe season finale of DEADWOOD will fit in that slot just fine.

That leaves this afternoon for something musical - perhaps the Chenoweth/LuPone CANDIDE that I had on tap over the weekend and didn't have on hand to play.

BODY DOUBLE is indeed an awful film, but I have to admit that it IS one of my guilty pleasures.

As for the best of De Palma. I think BLOW OUT is the best followed by THE UNTOUCHABLES and then MISSION IMPOSSIBLE, but I'd certainly NEVER call him a genius of the cinema.

You're on a bus, DR TPunk is either on (or about to get on) a plane, and I'll be getting in my car in about 45 minutes.

I was just on a train. We've got planes, trains and automobiles covered. Any boaters out there?
