Maria, I am very sorry to read about the loss of both a great poet, and your friend, Gyorgy Faludy.

DR Maria, Gyorgy Faludy's live would make quite an interesting movie.

And this is the final week of my annual summer sojourn. I leave next Sunday morning - I will hate leaving. What a lovely place. But I'll be back every 6 or 8 weeks through the winter... I have become like the migratory birds - head south at the first scent of autumn and return when the primroses blossom. Such a bittersweet season, autumn is...

Yes, it is a bittersweet season and you have elegantly stated that Penny.

Although it is very sad about Mr. Irwin's death, it is certainly a very rare accident.  I have no regrets about swimming with the stingrays, while I was in the Caribbean; and I would certainly not hesitate to do it again the next time I am in Grand Cayman.

I also hope this story won't keep DRs Jed and Ann from swimming with them either.

We were just talking about that...and we decided that we'll take our chances :)

Yes, I read Bob Mathias' obit in the newspaper this morning. What a glorious athletic career he had!

I have been laughing, crying, and enjoying the reruns of THE CLOSER that I've watched today. Included in these were the season premiere that dealt with the death of a police officer and the two terrific episodes featuring Frances Sternhagen as Brenda's mother. Very easy to believe they are mother and daughter.

I also watched the episode with Douglas Sills as a chief murder suspect, and I had the DVR record one more that I'll watch tonight when I get back to the TV before the season finale airs.

Lewis and Clark are stopping by at the riverfront on their way back to St Louis.  I don't think there will be many visiting the encampment. I just haven't heard much about it.  I was a docent at the Lewis and Clark center when they came through 2 years ago, so I may have to stop by and say hello.

I have heard about it. I apologize in being remiss in not mentioning it. I am sorry.

How interesting. Fall is my very favorite season. It's when I think of the excitement of going back to school, cool nights at the football games, the beauty of the changing leaves, being able to be outside without bugs! It's when I come back to life after the horrible heat of summer.

Of course I like winter better than summer, so there you go... to each his own, but I love the cool brisk air, fresh apples, pumpkin seeds, oh my, there are so many things I love about fall.....

Which reminds me, it's time to start cooking some home made applesauce to go with my pork chops tonight

You heard they were in Sioux City this weekend?  Hmm.. Anyway, it was pretty much a bust. Not much there, they have the same boats they had on the return trip, but there really wasn't much going on that we didn't do last time they were here. So I took some photos and left.

The other thing I like about fall is I can travel without having to deal with everyone else's kids!

I just can never wrap my mind around sadness at someone's passing who is ninety-five.  Celebration, sure.  Celebration of a life long lived.  I completely understand if it's a close relative or close friend, but ninety-five is a LONG life.

Had a quick work session with Kevin - we went to Hugo's at 12:15 and it was an hour wait.  I will now never set foot in that restaurant again.  We went to CPK and it was empty.  Normally, CPK is full.  Go know.  It seems that the "hip" factor has now moved over to Hugo's.  Can't go to ANY other restaurant.  Of course, what these people are doing there at 12:15 is anyone's guess.

I was just about to post saying, thank you for the condolences, but none are required. That's not why I mentioned Faludy's death. He had a long and glorious life - several lifetimes really. I wrote about it more as a report of the passing of a great man, than as an occasion for sadness.
But I do want to make clear that I'm not writing this in response to Bruce's post, just a coincidence. As I said, I read the posts and had just logged in to respond when I saw the latest post -- his.
So let's just drink a toast to Faludy (Diet Coke is acceptable).

It is a wonderful day today! Here it is, 2:40 in the afternoon and ONLY 95 degrees! I went for a hike this morning, did some yardwork, and went for lunch with my DH.

I have had a wonderful weekend,  well other than the bat incident - walking in the woods, cooking, seeing wonderful art at an outdoor art festival, buying one piece and then getting 2 more at the silent auction (at a fraction of what they should have gone for).  And just being able to hang out at home. It's been really nice...

Plus I've gotten my old laptop working. I'm trying to get it both working and streamlined to very few programs so I can still travel with it. Then if something happens to it, oh well. It doesn't work very well anyway.

Looks like there was a problem with Verizon DSL parts of the 212 area code today.

Anyone know if this was just a MAC problem, or a system-wide problem.

Regarding the word of the day:  The opening number of Skip's score for TIME AND AGAIN at San Diego's Old Globe Theatre (is it really 10 years now?) was called "Quodlibet."

Interestingly, some people were confused because they assumed that title for the number meant it had to have four parts.
