ON A SERIOUS NOTE:

Do 'Real Men' Wear Flip-Flops?

Pulitzer-candidate quote:
Quote
“I'm always baffled at what makes men think women will be attracted to them in a two-for-$10 pair of Wal-Mart flip-flops,” he said. “No one wants to look at a man's dirty, hairy, nasty toes. And whenever you see a man wearing flip-flops, 90 percent are not groomed toes — that probably hurt the cause of flip-flops more than anything else.”

I enjoyed SPAMALOT as a crazy circus-type entertainment. Had a blast at it. And the music for me increased the hilarity of the film since the songs were a riot, too.

ENCHANTED APRIL, which I watched first this afternoon, was a very small gem of a movie. Lovely drama of four people finding love and friendship or rediscovering it through this magical place. Not much plot, but a quartet of enchanting performances. Joan Plowright was precious, and Polly Walker is almost always good.

I spent the remainder of the afternoon revisiting GREY'S ANATOMY's second season. This show seems to have an amazing effect on me. I get caught up in the stories and the EMOTIONS so much that it's almost like seeing the shows for the first time. Can't remember another show that has had quite this same effect on me.

I have the DVR capturing the movie RED EYE this afternoon. I never saw this thriller, very similar in plot and suspense to FLIGHTPLAN, I understand. But since it's pretty short, I should be able to watch it before tonight's TV shows kick in for me at 9.

Well, it's around 1:30 AM and I have to start moving more furniture at 10:00 in the morning.  AND since I need to move my computer (forget about Rosemary's baby, pray for my computer...it totally crashed the last time I moved!!) I need to clean up the areas being moved:  my computer desk and my kitchen table.  After that, I'll get the couch, computer, TV, DVD players, VCRs, laserdisc player, bed, dressers and other assorted items moved without any trouble!

So, good night, BK and anyone else out there in the dark. ;)

When do we retrieve "The Box" and restock under the bed? ::)

Is it even funnier to you because you've seen so many shows and recognize that certain elements can be formulaic, or do you take offense that the writers are mocking a form you love?

Personally I love satires that poke fun at film clichés, whether it's a drama or a documentary. But I don't have the depth of knowledge of musicals that some DR's have.

Edi, are you familiar with the "Forbidden Broadway" series of shows?

I think "mockery" can be the sincerest expression of appreciation - (or not).

A show that does a wonderful job of riffing on B'Way musicals is:

The scene in the library when all the ancester portraits come to life is one of the  gut-bustingest hilarious routines I've ever scene seen.

We saw the show in LA with Tim Curry.

I did get pretty fanatic about Pippin when I was in high school, but nobody else I knew had ever heard of it. Our school didn't even have a theatre dept. much less musical theatre. But if you wanted to learn to weld, that was the place to be! So I got a kick out of the last chapter of BK's new book and remembered the excitement I felt when I first heard that album!

Bk had the advantage of someone explaining the action to him. My initial introduction to Pippin was just listening to the music on a casette (no liner notes). You can imagine my surprise when I first saw the stage production :o All those sweet love songs all Fosse-tarted up! (Loved it!)

I have also enjoyed that musical... Love anything related to Monty Python.

Back from an enjoyable visit to the Courts show.  Edith Fellows was a no-show as far as I could tell, but we had a nice chat with Miss Marni Nixon.  We had a nice luncheon, too.  Still have to jog, but I think my evening of belly dancing will not be happening.  Too much to do.

Sherlock had a great morning playing with his brother.  The breeder drove the brother up from Bakersfield while a nice couple drove down from Seattle.  This morning, after a couple of hours of play, the nice couple took the brother home with them.  The breeder is spending the night with us.

I have a few minutes to myself while Keith and the breeder, Al, enjoy beer and cigars on the deck.

...Keith and the breeder, Al...

Is it necessary to highlight Al's sexual orientation? (And "straight" is a more polite term than "breeder') ;D

Sunday morning greetings!  Today, I must pay serious attention to the planning of the Ohio AAUW spring conference (April 20 & 21, 2007, in Tiffin, OH).  It's my main responsibility as state co-program vice-president and we have a board meeting coming up in 2 weeks.  Pray for Rosemary's Baby.

Why must be pray for Rosemary's Baby?  Didn't he get some TV sequel?  Didn't he grow up to be Stephen Collins or someone like that?  Or did I imagine all of that?

Cillaliz, TCB. JRand, the vibes seemed to have worked (or it was watching the puppies play) I’m having a good day.

Bruce, congratulations on the Amazon sales!

George, I hope your move went well.  Your plan for Ebonie sounds good.  Did your computer survive the move?

BELLY HIGH - the feeling you get after a good belly dance, or a school where they teach the fine art of belly dancing

Or a song from SOUTH PACIFIC?

I would like to thank BK and all the DR's for keeping me from being lonely this week while Greg was up in the mountains having grizzly adventures. You all are a wonderful group of human beings!

Greg comes home today---O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay! Just in time to go to an Octoberfest party with a bunch of commie-pinko liberals! Here's a picture of him so you can see why I'm attracted to men with "high foreheads". ("Yes, sir. VERY high!") I haven't quite accepted the Vanzetti-style mustache, but hey---it's his face! (That's my brother in the background.)

Greg, looks perfectly charming, but now I want to hear a few details about your good-looking brother!

Back from a  nice jog.  Am now transfering the second of two wonderful Bud Shank albums - one of Michel Legrand tunes, with Legrand conducting, and the other an assortment of terrific movie themes - it will all fit on one CD.  I totally love this turntable and the software.  So easy to use, and I'm sure I haven't even scratched the surface of what you can do in terms of cleaning up audio.  I will put that to the test a bit, because the sealed copy of A Thurber Carnival, although new, has a pressing flaw (slight bump) which causes a loud click in the first track - I should be able to isolate said click and nuke it.
