It makes me wonder why all the fuss about a Janet Jackson breast shot in a world where nude statues proliferate in art museums...where everyone is welcome.

I seem to remember some added coverings to Lady Liberty at the Justice Department. Maybe we need Ashcroft back to head-up the FCC (SARCASM!!!!!!!)

I agree. How else does a reader know if you're being sarcastic or facetious? Or, in my case, just plain rude.

Desert island CDs: a performance of Rachmaninov's Symphony Number 2

Ditto on the Rach (maybe all the Rach). Plus, Beethoven's Sonatas, Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, all my Guy Haines, Bach's Concerto in E for violin, others.

I came back and found a smilie next to my Rosemary Clooney selection.  How did it get there?  I did not put it there.  Could I have done it inadvertantly?  I have disabled the smilies features.  I do not like smilies.  I would like to think that what I write is clear enough without the addition of little icons that spell it out for the unsubtle.

LOL.  I just think they are cute and make me smile.  This would have been a perfect spot to insert one, just for you I will resist temptation.

I don't know the Franck, but I don't think I've ever heard a double concerto I didn't like.

I caught up on some of my recorded shows from last week.

And then there was "The Ghost Whisperer" -- and what a strong, emotional and gutsy entry this show was in that series: the ghost of a soul that had a tortured recall of several prior lives.  And that soul found itself set for another incarnation.  Melinda rightly grasped that the soul was about to be reborn, but did not guess who the mother was.  The resolution, and the sacrifice, I found to be very moving.  There's more to this storyline of "not being ready to have a child" and it may end badly for one of our characters.

Oh i loved this episode too. It was so different and so completely moving.  Although i did not really get why he was able to choose to go into the light and not be reborn.  IF he had gone into the light previously (didn't he say that or was it simply that he saw it but did not go into) then why would him going this time mean he would not be reborn.

I wonder if they will have melinda get pregnant in the near future. I thought it was a very interesting way to have her agree she was ready.

TOD:

Barbirolli's recording of "Enigma Variations" backed with Boult's "Pomp and Circumstance" Marches.

The Mehta/Sutherland/Pavarotti "Turandot"

Slatkin's recording with Elmar Oliveira performing "Howard Hanson: Symphony No. 2; Samuel Barber: Violin Concerto"

"Sweeney Todd" -- Stephen Sondheim

"How the West Was Won" - Alfred Newman

"Bette Midler: Live At Last" --  concert recording

"The Wizard of Oz" -- soundtrack

"She Loves Me" -- Bock and Harnick  (OBC -- Cook, Massey)

"Into the Woods" -- Stephen Sondheim OBC

"The Music Man" -- Meredith Willson (OBC)

Of course, I'd have my IPod with much, much more than the above on it.

All of my Van Morrison CDs (the 10-CD limit be damned)
Some reggae -- probably Bob Marley's "Legend"
Beethoven -- this compilation of his classics
Sheryl Crow -- "The very best of"
Gilbert and Sullivan -- this compilation/best of
Soundtrack from "The Commitments"
Hank Williams -- "the best of"
Gipsy Kings -- "Volare!"
LeAnn Rimes -- "Greatest Hits"
Tracy Chapman -- "Crossroads"
Enya or Norah Jones or...
...much more but I'm already over the limit with all the Van "the Man" CDs

I like your choices Karen, I also like Van Morrison, Sheryl Crow, Enya and Nora Jones.

The day is a bit warmer than the past several.  I couldn't see my breath while I was outside.

That's a sign.

I will see my breath for several more months

I wonder if they will have melinda get pregnant in the near future. I thought it was a very interesting way to have her agree she was ready.

SPOILER

The issue was this:  He had gone into the light and had seen many things he'd done that hurt other people, and he had been horrified by (or frightened of) what he saw.  He then found himself back in the world, but as a ghost or spirit.

What saved him was overhearing the dicussion between Melinda and her husband.  His wanting a child, and her being willing to give him one even when she wasn't sure the timing was right, was -- as he told her --the first time he'd ever witnessed anyone doing anything so generous for a loved one.  That, and the fact that he told her he wouldn't fight being born again if she was to be his mother, brought the light.  And Melinda, realizing that he finally had the opportunity to move on, rather than try another lifetime, told him he should go.

She only wanted one thing from him, and that was for him to tell his sister how he felt about her.  As you may recall, the sister said he could be very selfish, and that she never knew if he appreciated anything she had done for him...but that he could be so charming and lovable when he was happy that she hoped he'd one day realize how much she loved him.

The result for Melinda and hubby, of course, was that she turned out not to be pregnant.  This topic has been brought up before in this season, and I'm not certain what the writers/producer (i.e, Love Hewitt) will do to reconcile it.

I greatly fear they're going to kill off another key character before this season ends.

Isn't that the truth!

She won last year's Emmy for ELIZABETH I.

She's the odds-on favorite to win this year's Best Actress Oscar.

She'll be the frontrunner for this year's Emmy for PRIME SUSPECT.

I agree MattH. She had had a great year and she is an excellent actress.

Muslim ladies down under are finally making a splash — thanks to a new bathing suit known as the "burqini."
The Christian Science Monitor reports that the two-piece spandex ensemble is allowing young Muslim Australians to train to become lifeguards at Sydney's famed Bondi Beach.

"Normally, I'd wear cotton trousers and a top but they get very heavy in the water," said Mecca Laalaa, a trainee for Surf Life Saving Australia. "This meets our cultural requirements."

I'm up, I'm up.  Got up just before nine, and have been answering e-mails.  Since the Skinner/Ripley discs hadn't arrived that was my first.  Well, they did arrive and she put them in the one place I didn't look - not any of the three places I did tell her to leave them in.  I tell ya.  Now I can ship those out.
