I feel a little guilty reading all this about snow and ice and rain. It's 60 degrees and cloudless here. I just went out to lunch with a friend, and was only in a long sleeved shirt - no jacket, coat, or sweater.

All this talk about SOMETHING FOR THE BOYS makes me want to pull it off the shelf and suffer through it again, just to know I share the same critical sense with several other DRs.

And I am not sure it is related, DRTCB, but BOTH the Dow and Nasdaq are down today!

Oh I keep forgetting to say... DRJose's new project sounds very intriguing!

DR JRand53,  I'm actually more familiar with McKuen as a poet than a musician...and know little of his "rock" years other than I believe that is the period where he blew his voice out, leaving it with that melancholy husky rasp.   What I know of his music are the few songs interpersed on his poetry albums and a couple of albums of Glenn Yarborough singing exclusively Rod McKuen material...that are played frequently and with delight, despite a few tracks being quite banal tunes saved only by Yarborough's singing.  I also have Damone singing a very nice version of Very Warm.  There is apparently a Sinatra album of nothing but McKuen songs that might be worth a look-see.

Ain't it the truth, DRJENNIFER?

Sinatra and Yarbarough singing McKuen?  Just when I think I know music....more stuff to look for?

And it's about time for McKuen to have a surge of interest, I think.  His music was the best thing about the movie JOANNA....imho.

Beautiful pups, you guys!!! You are lucky indeed!

If snow and rain depresses you, don't ever move to Oregon! LOL! Although we do have beautiful springs and summers here I must add, so it balances out... and it is so green most everywhere..or at least on the western side of Oregon. We have cowboys too!

DR JRand: Are you familiar with Bob McFadden's 1959 recording "The Mummy"? Rod McKuen is character "Dor" on the recording.
Must also recommend the pop recordings by Mr Tony Perkins of "Moonlight Swim" and "Prettiest Girl In Town". Great songs from the fifties. His work on the Ben Bagley albums was good too.
The Glen Yarborough CDs are all beautiful. His voice is so suited to the McKuen poem/songs.

BoB McFadden....the First Family guy?  Hmmmm...was THE MUMMY a single?  Hmmmmmmm....it sounds familiar, but then again.

And I liked the CC release of the Tony Perkins albums as well and the three Joanie Sommers Cd's I got this year!

PennyO is my pal PennyO, whom I've known since she was a wee sprig of a twig of a ladette of a gal.  Her uncle was in business with my father for a few years.  She's also written a novel, called Jewish Thighs on Broadway.  For those who have the original cast album of A Doll's Life, she's on it.

Penny was one of my bridesmaids at my wedding.  She will be visiting us next month.  I shall get the real scoop on Bruce’s Christmas Eve party when she is here.
