DR DakotaCelt, having just gone through the past year with what you're facing, I can offer two bits of advice that helped me out through the constant anguish the heart sends out: keep a sense of humor and let your father know that when his body wants to leave this plane, you wish him godspeed. Don't let anyone tie him down with please to stay or signs of misdirection without him.  Once he's gone, mourn for him and yourself.

I enjoyed last night's comments about SOM scenes, but I can't say I've ever liked the film.  Having seen the national tour of the original, I dislike the alterations in the musical program, and I find the movie much more sugary than the stage show.  Friends admire it or love it, and I still cannot figure out why!

TOD: I'm great at casting a play or a musical, but I'm no good at this one.  I do plan to enjoy the choices.

It took me three posts to do what originally I tried to send once twice.  Oh, God, I still sound like Gertrude Stein.

Jo is off running errands and I am alone, the laundry is in the dryer, I want to finish TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD today, I have vehicular titles to sign for the attorney and my brothers, and tonight I dine with my friend Loyce, whom I've not seen in about a year.  She and I will catch up, I will pack, and beg for good vibes.

Monday morning greetings!  When my one-day weekend is a holiday for which I'm the hostess, it's real hard to come to work on Monday.  But I'm here and have a lot to keep me busy.

DR Elmore - please say HI to Loyce for me!  She both lives and works within blocks of me, but we have to import someone from NYC to communicate between us - isn't that pathetic?

DR LAURA said that the Dutchman's pipe wasn't very impressive.

The Dutchaman's pipe flower isn't very impressive. I planted it because it is the host plant for the pipevine swallowtail caterpillar.

the cows come home - they're currently in The Twilight Zone yelling - "It's a cookbook!"

Ah, that vast, untapped genre...the murder mystery/cookbook.

Today they install the new bathtub. Then I'll need to contact a drywall man and a tile man.

A true anecdote about jaded smuttiness?

Good Morning!

...And I think I may need to make some coffee.  I had coffee each morning while I was up at Westport - the coffee at the Inn was very good.  And since I don't normally have coffee in the morning... I guess I'm feeling a bit of caffeine withdrawal this morning.

Or I could just be still tired.

Miss Litella, we said antidote, not anecdote.

Oh, an antidote to jaded smuttiness is very important.  Never mind!

Good morning!

We have partly cloudy skies here, but it should be a nice day. It's looks sunny and it's going to start to warm up a bit to be more like spring.

I only got 5 1/2 hours of sleep last night. I slept well for as long as it lasted, but by 6:30, I was wide awake and ready to get up. So I did. I hope this doesn't mean today is going to seem endless. So far the morning was flown by.

How I spent my morning: I watched the 1995 French film La HAINE by Mathieu Kassovitz. It was a visceral experience to be sure. Sometimes we forget that other parts of the world have ghettos, and the poor and disinfranchised are just as angry and rootless as the jobless and airmless here in our country are. In power and scope, it reminded me a lot of Scorsese's MEAN STREETS.

This Criterion DVD of La HAINE is a two disc set, so there is an entire disc of special features I'll be working on watching today and tonight. Of course, I have so many hours of TV from last night that I won't get to it all today, but since I won't need to record anything tonight (I can watch everything I want to see "live"), I can finish the other SUnday night programs tomorrow.

Tonight, the CBS, NBC, and ABC lineups are all new. Fox is rerunning a house episode before an original '24' episode at 9 p.m.

I think a film like CRASH might have been more involving with Elia Kazan at the helm and some Actor's Studio folks like Brando, Shelley WInters, Eva Marie Saint, Woodward and Newman, and others in the cast.

As for the Topic of the Day...

Everytime I see a good film - like the ones in the "Harry Potter" and "Lord of the Rings" series - that use a lot of CGI and other computer effects, I always wonder just how those films could and would have been made without the aid of computers.  And how the story-telling would have been affected.

Alas, at this time of day - I'm still "resisting" the coffee - I can't come up with a specific example.

I had the weirdest dream last night...

At the last minute, I decided to book a flight to LA.  I arrived at some sort of large hangar/warehouse, where they were having a HHW gathering.  There were large displays of books and CDs everywhere, and many H/Ks were there.  There was this important dance rehearsal going on...I can't remember if bk was leading the rehearsal, or just participating, but he was definitely dancing!

That is all...

Shall we say that you know when you're a REAL H/K when you dream about HHW gatherings?
