There's a difference?

Certainly...it all depends upon whether you're there "to be seen" or "to earn some money".

...And I also didn't realize that the "Planet Earth" series was originally narrated by David Attenborough during it's BBC broadcast.  Not Sigourney Weaver as it is here stateside.

-Although, I think it would be fun to have a second audio track so that you could compare both narrators side by side.  ;)

The same thing happened with the series, "Walking with Dinosaurs."  When it was on US TV, it was narrated by Avery Brooks, but the original narrator was Kenneth Branagh.

And one for Cillaliz!

A guest columnist at AndrewSullivan commenting on the Duke Lacrosse players:

Quote
The real issue, I think, is not the publicity, or that we care about white people more, but that it has become very, very clear that having a good lawyer really, really matters. In this case, the victim was sufficiently unhinged, and the DNA sufficiently strong, that it probably would have been dismissed anyway; but there remains the awful, and not altogether unlikely, possibility that had they been poor (white or black) these boys would have gone to jail for a crime that pretty clearly didn't happen. Inexperienced and overworked public defenders are no substitute for a good trial attorney. Attorney incompetence seems to be the main culprit in almost all cases where someone actually innocent goes to jail. This is intolerable. But no one wants to put real money into the public defender system.

•   April 16: Chinese performers rehearse for a ceremony to mark the completion of giant sculptures featuring mythical emperors Yan and Huang from around 26th BC in Zhenzhou, central China's Henan province. The 106-meter-high sculpture is among the world's largest, with a 3,000-square-meter exhibition hall in it.

Wonder which adventure movie will film the first statue climbing chase?

I guess I miss the point of 86th Street. There seems no way, sort of swimming, to enter the island between 59th Street the Triborough Bridge at 156th Street.

Good Afternoon!

Greetings from the courtyard of the Westport Country Playhouse.  -It's just too nice to be inside right now.  And the wireless reaches to the park adjacent to the parking lot.

Well, one has to been "seen" to "earn money".

At least in my experience.

Jane, where is Craig going again?  Does he already have a place there?  Is there some address (in care of someone) where needed essentials could be sent in advance?

He is going to Carnegie-Mellon in Pittsburgh.  He doesn’t have an address yet.

I’m talking to him on messenger right now and we are discussing the size of his dog crate & what cars it will fit into.  I might end up not taking an extra suitcase.  I will try and fit in at least one towel for him.

bk - As for some of the brou-ha-ha over "The Larry Sanders Show", just read some of the comments over at Amazon.  There have been similar comments on some other "industry" sites.  No one seems to like Brad Grey that much.  ???

Today we are taking the relatives to a museum. After that I don't know.

Museums? Good idea. Museums have FACILITIES.

(much sympathy, LAURA, with the frustration and disorder you're going through. I know it only too well.)

May I suggest a Bed, Bath & Beyong Gift Card?  Or even one from Macy's?

Actually, if you're looking to "work it", Main Street in Westport, CT probably isn't a bad place to start...    ;)

Not to besmirch the good people of Westport...I just meant that there's bucks a plenty, ripe for spendin'.

And it wasn't a bad place to start.  A nice mix of some mainstream retailers and some local, mom and pop operations.  Albeit, some moms and pops with some money.

And I just happened to walk in to Williams-Sonoma just as they were finishing a baking demo of some new cake and cupcake mixes...  :)

How unseemly of me not to mention HGTV's A GARDENER'S DIARY: M-F at 8AM EST, since I wrote and edited it for 15 seasons. (New episodes air every Monday...)

Saturday afternoon greetings from beautiful Tiffin, Ohio!  AAUW/Ohio's 12th annual equity day conference (Financially Fit for Life) and 83rd Annual Meeting and Convention are now history!  All the speakers showed up - on time and well-prepared - we had good registration numbers for both days, attendees participated in the audience-participation segments, and (best of all) we finished about 45 minutes early.  The local branch co-presidents recruited a wonderful local arrangements chair, with whom it's been a pleasure to work for the last 7 months - I just promised her I'd remove her from my speed-dial.

Most everyone is now heading back to their homes throughout Ohio, but I decided to stay tonight, relax a bit, and drive home tomorrow.  The AAUW Great Lakes Regional Director, who's from Wisconsin and was our headliner this morning, is also staying until tomorrow.  Later she and I are going to dinner at Pioneer Mill of Tiffin.
