I think I'm already ready for another haircut.

Haircut, or haircoloring, or both?     :)

It's the good morning and goodnight ritual.

We just watched (yet again) "The Chorus".  What a delight.

Have you ever seen the BBC/PBS television miniseries The Choir, a good number of years back?

TOD:

Maureen Stapleton--
REDS
PLAZA SUITE
THE GATHERING
QUEEN OF THE STARDUST BALLROOM
TELL ME WHERE IT HURTS
MISS ROSE WHITE

I also have a recording of Stapleton doing THE ROSE TATTOO.  It was her early theatrical signature role and she is devastating.  I wish I had seen her do it on stage.

Charles Durning--
THE STING
DOG DAY AFTERNOON
TOOTSIE
QUEEN OF THE STARDUST BALLROOM
THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS (the only reason to watch this movie)

Durning was also wonderful in his occasional role as the priest on EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND.  And I also like him in the Burt Reynolds sitcom EVENING SHADE.

Good morning, all!  I've got treks to Toyland and the pharmacy this morning.

I have nothing else to add for the nonce.

I saw BALLROOM about two weeks after it opened.  I was sort of disappointed with it in that Dorothy Louden didn't have enough musical numbers, but I still loved the show overall.

I also remember the sticker shock when the first ads appeared.  $25 top ticket!  I remember saying to myself, "Oh, no!  I'll never afford to see this!"  It was an extravagant price for me back then.

Shocked that usual Tony favorite Kristin Chenoweth did not get a nomination.

Lovely that the ultra-talented Brooks Ashmanskas (whose name didn't seem to have come up in most forecasts) got a Featured Actor nomination for the Martin Short show.

I've always wondered if that story about CBS demanding that Stapleton's character die at the end of BALLROOM because they felt she should be punished for sleeping with a married man was a myth or not.  It doesn't really make sense--she was a widow.  If anyone could be construed as "sinning", it was Durning's character.  To me, the ending was a bittersweet touch to the story.  It never felt to me that it was tacked on.

Kristin Chenoweth didn't get a nomination, but she's got herself a a role on a new TV series scheduled for the fall.

Good contests overall in the Tony nominations, though I don't quite understand MARY POPPINS inclusion in Best Musical over LEGALLY BLONDE when I look at their other nominations.  But I guess it really doesn't matter--SPRING AWAKENING will probably sweep up the awards.

A month or two ago, DR Tomovoz mentioned The Puppini Sisters.  Now their CD has been released domestically in the U.S. and is available on Amazon.

My buddy Brooks Ashmanskas was nominated.  Yay!  I now need to update my website to state I've Music Directed and written special material for Tony-nominated Brooks Ashmanskas.  I'm positive the work is going to pour in now.   ;D

I liked her in her less pretentious outings like The Others, and Panic Room

Jodie Foster was the star of PANIC ROOM.

I, too, was surprised with MARY POPPINS getting the nomination over LEGALLY BLONDE. And the actress playing Mary Poppins wasn't nominated either.

A lot of the acting races are really going to be tough decisions.

Maureen Stapleton is one of those actresses that can impress even in junk, like her role in THE FAN. The movie is barely better than a slasher film (despite the big stars), but Stapleton is magnetic.

I think she's at her best in INTERIORS, but as bk said, I can't remember a bad performance from her.

I loved what she did in the first episode of PLAZA SUITE, but I would also like to have seen her in the other two playlets, especially the last one (repeating her Broadway roles).

Charles Durning, also good in everything. SUpremely entertaining in BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS, and I loved him in Billy Wilder's remake of THE FRONT PAGE. Good in TOOTSIE, too.

Maureen Stapleton....where to start...of course those listed including:

QUEEN OF THE STARDUST BALLROOM
BYE BYE BIRDIE

and

AIRPORT - that Hayes got the Oscar over her shocks me every time I watch the movie.  Of course she is playing opposite Van Heflin who is also superb...but as has been mentioned her last scene at the airport when she is informed her husband is on the plane....wow!

THE FUGITIVE KIND - showing who is the actress playing opposite Miss Joanne Woodward

BUT I loved her MOST as THE ELECTRIC GRANDMOTHER!!
