I enjoyed last night's VM finale. I'm so bummed that I missed the week before, so I was quite surprised by the state of things.

Wednesday morning greetings!  Like DR Cillaliz, I have a presentation this afternoon.  Mine, though, is the May edition of something I do every month, so not much prep.  In fact, I could probably do this one in my sleep, which doesn't sound like a bad idea:

I Need a Vacation!

The upcoming 4-day holiday weekend will help...

Question for BK -

If When The Brain from Planet X plays in a metropolitan area that's not LA, would you "localize" the geographic references?

It's a Presentation Day. My canceled presentation from two weeks ago will take place at 10am. I'm in the Training Annex right now making sure everything is Fine and Dandy (a Larry Moore reference).

I just came back from a wonderful 7 day vacation but I could use another one soon. As Ginny said, the Memorial Day long weekend will help.

Later, gaters.

Question for one and all DRs and bk,

What was the first tv show, aside from children's programming you remember seeing  on television?

Good morning!

Overcast today, so I don't know if we're due for rain or not. Cool right now, and it's supposed to be a bit cooler this afternoon, too. At least not in the 80s which will be a relief.

I recorded the IDOL show last night but had no interest in watching it "live." I thought after reading recaps if there was something I had to watch, I'd have it. Well, after reading the recaps, I will erase the show without even watching.

Last year, the two finalists each had his own song to sing, and I am VERY disappointed that they didn't keep that approach this year. They still could have had a song contest, but let there be two winners instead of one. When you have singers so very different from each other, it's absurd to think the same song is OK for each of them.

As for tonight's results show, I won't watch that either, but will record it and read recaps of it to see if anyone shows up tonight I want to see.

LOST, of course, will be front and center for me tonight. Should be a marvelous season finale to a very good year for the show.

Two big DVD collections make it an expensive week for me next week: the second season of THE CLOSER and the Katharine Hepburn boxed set (SYLVIA SCARLET, MORNING GLORY, THE CORN IS GREEN, WITHOUT LOVE, UNDERCURRENT).

I have my fingers crossed that THE CLOSER will be anamorphic transfers this year.

Good Morning!

I'm up, and it looks and feels like a beautiful day outside - we have the doors to the backyard open.  And after DR TPunk mentioned Central Park, I may have to head out there too sometime today.

DR MattH - Thanks for the heads up on those boxeds sets of musicals.  I had been reading about them on other sites, and since I don't have any of them currently in my constantly growing library-of-DVDs-that-I-will-probably-not-watch-for-another-couple-of-years, I was just wondering if I should add them to the queue.  ;)

"Idol" SPOILER/COMMENT

I did think the winning song was better suited to Jordin's voice, but you could tell is was not "living" in her voice yet.  -I wonder when they started learning the song.  And she was pitchy - again - when she was singing soft - and even when she wasn't singing soft. :-\

DR Michael Shayne - As for Index markers...

I remember coming across Index points on a bunch of the first Classical music CDs that came out - and that I bought.  They were used to indicate certain internal points in a song/movement that were not delineated by a stop/end.  I still have a disc of the Liszt B minor Piano Sonata, and there is an index marker provided for each major tempo indication in the score - otherwise, it's one long piece of music, one long CD track.

I recall seeing some CD players that allowed you to jump to Index points, otherwise, it was just a matter of fast-forwarding or rewinding if one desired.

-Remember the initial release of The Phantom of the Opera that was just one track per CD/Act?

I may finally see HOT FUZZ late this afternoon.  Nothing is frozen.

Hey, DR elmore - I would actually like to see "Hot Fuzz" again.  So, if you do end up going...

*Although, while I was in Chinatown on Saturday, I did buy an "advance copy" of the "Hot Fuzz" DVD.   ::)  :-X

Here's another way to pass the time that a friend of mine just forwarded to me:

What Was the #1 Song On the Day You Were Born?

DR Tomovoz - Alas, it only applies to the U.S. Billboard charts.
