Basically...

The 1987 Cabaret incorporated "Don't Go", "The Money Song", and "I Don't Care Much".  And it was directed, once again, by Hal Prince.

The 1988 Cabaret cut Cliff's numbers, but kept everything else, plus added the movie songs.

I am sure you are more interested in getting to third base, at least, if not home.

Personally, I haven't even been to the ballpark in the last five years.

Jose, the Oregonian had a full page rapturous review of Once this morning.  It opens here this week.

:)

I swear, I've recommended this movie to at least 20 people in the past 24 hours.  If you see it, I'd love to know what you thought of it.

Watched the special features on the GIANT two disc set.  Interesting....mostly I had seen it before, but some of it was new...to me.

Looks like THE TUDORS is a repeat.  Ho hum . . .

They actually repeated the first two episodes tonight. I don't really understand the motivation for repeating THE TUDORS or THE SOPRANOS not being shown tonight.

What's going on that these paycable networks thought would take away their audiences?

The 1987 revival (that starred Gregg Edelman as Cliff) was the first time the suggestion of CLiff's being bisexual was incorporated into the stage version. It was just a line or two to a chorus boy, but it was enough.

Today was MOTHRA day on Encore Action.....I saw MOTHRA and then REBIRTH OF MOTHRA and then REBIRTH OF MOTHRA II and then REBIRTH OF MOTHRA III.

It has evolved into a weird series with a small evil woman who flies around on a tiny dragon doing bad things....while the Peanuts fly around on a small Mothra they call "Fairy" and try to right all of the wrongs.

And the main human characters are almost always CHILDREN.  Still like to hear the MOTHRA song.....

I began my evening of viewing by finishing SILK STOCINGS that I had started in the late afternoon.

As I mentioned earlier, it's a very fine transfer, very sharp and with accurate color.

But it's funny how neutral colors were chosen for the entire film. Even Cyd's first gorgeous evening dress is mostly white with a beige overlay.

LES GIRLS is a much more colorful Cinemascope/Cole Porter musical than SILK STOCKINGS.

I also watched the too brief "making of" featurette on SILK STOCINGS with Cyd Charisse as the narrator. Nothing in it not already known, but OK.

I continued my evening of entertainment with ANATOMY OF A MURDER, spurred on by our discussion of James Stewart films the other day. I hadn't watched this all the way through in a few years, and it's still right up there as one of my all-time favorites.

Can't believe Lee Remick didn't get an Oscar nomination out of this film. She wuz robbed!

Since THE TUDORS was a rerun of the opening episode (following by episode #2), I put in another ANGEL episode.

"The House Always Wins" was an excellent episode featuring Lorne who had been enjoying great popularity as a Las Vegas headliner. But there was a lot more to the casino where he was appearing than what first met the eye.

With some time remaining before shutting everything off, I went back to the front of the episode and played the running commentary. It was by the writer and the actor who plays Lorne (Andy Hallett). Only got about 15 minutes rewatched with that turned on but it's a lively discussion and lots of great behind the scenes tidbits they shared as things came on the screen.

I always liked reading the section in Hildegard Knef's book about the trials that SILK STOCKINGS went through in tryouts and on the road.....

I got to meet MR. reilly when he did his one man show in boca and had the opportunity to meet him. Very kind and generous man.

There is a film version of his one man show that is looking for a distributor. A shame because the show is just as good as other one persons show that have been distributed.

I think there is a website dedicated to it.

From everything I've ever read, it was a very troubled show, and the fact that it opened in NYC and got good notices and a hit run was something of a surprise to everyone. I think they were expecting a disaster.

DR Larry mentioned yesterday about the cut musical number from Camelot called THE QUESTS. I had an LP that had the music for it on it, It was I believe on one of those Living Strings (or something like that) recordings, It is most likely stored away in the basement of my parents home in Montreal .Always wanted to hear a complete recording too. The Morgan LeFay number has always peeked my interest. I think her character has now been eliminated from the show.

I never did think of a favorite Indy 500 movie...I have seen many racing movies, but don't recall if they were connected to the 500....so I will just name my favorite racing movies...THUNDER OVER CAROLINA and THE CHECKERED FLAG. There.
