Today I scrubbed all the old wall paper paste off the bathroom walls and painted the dark blue ceiling with a coat of Kilz.  I was exhausted and decided to clean up and paint another day.   About 7:00 PM, I was sitting here thinking there was nothing I wanted to watch on TV so I painted the bathroom.  I need to touch up a few spots and put up the border next weekend.  Whew! I have a feeling my shoulders will be sore tomorrow

Matt H. said earlier that there was nothing to watch tonight on network television.  Was he unaware that the Miss Universe Pageant will be broadcast on NBC???

Well, it is hosted by Mario Lopez.

Maybe I should have said there is nothing FOR ME to watch on network television tonight.

I know too many stories of abuse in my own family's past. but that wasn't my point. I was talking about abducting children off the streets.  The local news is full of stories.  It's clearly becoming quite a popular thing in criminal/psycho behavior to abduct young people. I don't recall much about this at all 50 years ago, even though it must have happened.  It seems so prevalent these days.

I remember when I was in grammar school being scared out of my mind by warnings about men in cars tempting kids with candy and then kidnapping them.  But I don't remember ever hearing about this actually happening.  Maybe they are not scaring the kids enough these days.

TOD - many of you know that's how I met Rupert. I wrote him a fan letter back in 1976 and he called me to say thank you.   I met him a few months later when I was on a church trip to New York. We corresponded off and on over the years and I'm pleased that along the way we became good friends.

I wrote to LBJ when I was in 5th grade. He wrote me back the month before he died. It was a nice personal letter.  He was no longer president.

I wrote to Robert Blake when he was on Baretta.  He sent a photo.

I wrote to Batman and Robin, they sent photos and a photo of the bat mobile.

I wrote to the Banana Splitz, they sent a fan club membership packet

I wrote to Richard Nixon, I got a form letter back (I was starting a former presidents collection.)

I think there may have been more, I just don't remember.

I began my evening of viewing with the last ANGEL episode on disc one in the season four boxed set. In this one, Cordy has come back, but she has total amnesia. The only one she allows to get close to her is Angel's son Connor.

The entire Wesley/Leila affair is creepy beyond words. I can't wait for him to rejoin the group.

Needing to continue with another David Boreanaz fix, I put in a disc from the first season of BONES and rewatched the episode with the remains of a six year old found in a field. Very heart-rending story as the death of the child affected everyone on the team.

Today, I bought, prepared the ground for and then planted:

24 petunias
4 Supersonic tomato plants
4 cherry tomato plants
2 California Wonder pepper plants
1 yarrow bush
1 black eye susan

I then mulched and watered.

Thanks again to tcb for the alert - the folks at the imdb have now adjusted Skip's info and the info for the film FRIENDS AND FAMILY to reflect his having written the original song "You Can't Surprise Me" in the movie.  They took a few days to verify the info, but it was a pretty efficient process.

Next came the 1938 extravaganza MARIE ANTOINETTE. MGM must have spent $3 million or more on this HUGE undertaking with many known actors, sometimes in small roles, and the most lavish costumes especially for Norma Shearer that have ever been made.

This may well be Norma's finest hour. And Tyrone Power was at the height of his glamor, too.

I wrote to Lily Tomlin when I was in high school.  She sent a very nice postcard in reply.

Wow Dtm, that's a lot.  I forgot to put my tomato plants in cages.  I'll have to do that this week, they are getting huge

I watched the special feature on the DVD that contained the premiere of MARIE ANTOINETTE. Lots of stars in attendance. Robert Taylor and Barbara Stanwyck were there, but he didn't seem any too pleased to have to be there, and she was standing in the background very quietly. Lots of other stars, too. Norma was escorted by Ty.

David Boreanaz paraded in his underwear here in Philly last week, as reported in this article (there's a picture, too!)

I'll get the cages on this week.

I just realized that I forgot about the four pots of marigolds that I planted amongst the tomatos (they're suppose to ward off bugs.)

DR Edi - I caught about the last 10 minutes, including the important part:  the credits with your name in them!

The folks we were visiting in Kingston to shoot skeet, etc. were the gardeners featured in this show. They drove us around through acres of woods on something called a "Mule", but a 4-wheel variety.

Did you know that work is a four letter word?   :-\

The gardener we visited in Alabama, who is about 70, told us that he hates it when women use 4 letter words...

like "Stop"

and "Don't"

etc.

We danced for hours through his garden, over the skywalks and the decks, to music one of the gardening producers brought. It was mostly Cole Porter, Gershwin and beach music. When we finished playing her CD's, we asked our host if he had any other music.

He put on one of Moby's CD's (the first one) and started dancing to "When My Honey Comes Back". The producers had never heard of Moby, but I was quite impressed!

Of course, we'd had quite a bit of wine, which came out of this wine cellar hidden in a grotto:

A nice place to sit in the cool of the wine cellar, with hand-painted murals of the garden:

This garden could comfortably host hundreds of people for dinner and partying---there are probably 40 or 50 places for people to sit, relax and dine.

And drink wine, of course...

This is one of my favorite tables, A waterfall from high on the property cascades down and through a channel on the table. The water is cold, so you can keep your wine cold by setting the bottle in the table. You can also put candles in the rings in the water.

For DR Laura: one of my favorite shrubs---we all forgot the name of it but the gardener said it was easy to grow and is going to give us all some cuttings.

So the movie XANADU is based on a Rita Hayworth movie?  Why didn't I know this?

I won't write about the skeet shooting, because there was another incident that happened right before we arrived that put a damper on things. It's too disturbing for me to write about, and it would bother most of the animal lovers here.
