Regarding the burger conversation from last night (well Jose's musings on burgers anyway), there are two excellent burger places in Chelsea. One is in the Gayborhood of Eighth Avenue between 14th Street and 23rd Street. It's called

Better Burger

I know, I know, if you're going to eat a burger, eat a burger, but these are good healthy burgers. You can get meat burgers, turkey burgers and veggie burgers and they have "healthy" hot dogs, if that isn't an oxymoron. The fries, cole slaw and chili sides are also very good. There are Better Burgers around the city with another location on 9th Avenue between 42nd and 43rd Street (close to FJL). I will go there sometimes if I'm seeing a show at Playwrights Horizons and I need a quick, tasty meal.

The other place is called

New York Burger Co.

It's on Sixth Avenue between 21st and 22nd Street. They have very good burgers and very good hot dogs and all kinds of fixings. They also offer grilled chicken. If you're on a shopping excursion up or down Sixth Avenue and you get hungry I recommend it. You will leave full so you will need to continue your walking to work off the meal.

Good night, DR Tomovoz.  That would be a very bad idea.

I decided it would be unseemly to mention some stories - even about the food type!

Apparently Joe Mantello will be directing The Ritz at The Roundabout, with Rosie Perez potentially playing Googie Gomez.

Good morning, all! Back to Toyland and then the NYPL! Hooray!

I spent a bit of last evening reading large sections of Ethan Mordden's new book on American theatre 1919-1959 ( I believe these are the dates on the cover ), and spent half the book wondering two things: was he relying on memory or had he actually reread plays since he missed things and why the proofreader was so lax.  I also found it irritating that, because his audience is primarily musical theatre fans, he was constantly throwing in musical theatre references, including a photo of the Clambake number from CAROUSEL.  I found what I read to be full of generalizations, unidentified sources for information he wasn't alive to have witnessed, and a smug, aren't-I-whimsical approach to writing.

TOD:  Maybe later.

I loved Kitchen Kabaret at Walt Disney World.

The drag performer Hedda Lettuce is a favorite of some people here on HHW, I think.

I tried take out from Better Burger, and it was a little messy in the packing.  That turned me off to them a little (first impressions and all), but I must try it again.

Actually, Fred, you're correct, the package can get a bit messy, especially if you have lots of stuff on your burger. It's the kind of burger you need to eat with a fork (or your fingers). You pick up the fixings that fall off the burger but it's all wrapped in foil so you don't need to wash a plate  ;)

Thursday morning greetings!  Since today's the last day of the month, I've turned my calendar because I prefer looking forward to looking back.  The best news is that the month I'm looking at now includes NYC on the last 3 days!

In a few minutes, I'll be scooting to another window on my computer to attend a "webinar" about human services grantmaking in Ohio.

Interesting article here from the Washington Post about the movie Godspell and filming at the WTC before it had opened to the public.

I've been avoiding the GODSPELL movie for years.  I find "Beautiful City" to be annoyingly grating on my ears.  My chorus teacher in high school knew I hated it, and she would often drag it out and make us sing it, driving me to tears.  (Of course, I was alone with my opinion--the song was loved by my peers.)  Maybe I'll watch the DVD one of these days, and just turn down the sound when this number appears.
