DR Tomovoz - I didn't know that you had sent me one, but alas - it has not yet arrived.  So I guess my boyfriend ISN'T back yet...
And you're going to be sorry!

I noticed that SINGDAW watched VENUS. Did anyone else? I quite liked it. I thought it was an excellent contrast between generational values. And Peter O'Toole is such a joy to watch.

I wrote about my feelings a couple of weeks ago. I liked it very much. I thought the actor who played his best friend was O'Toole's performance equal and deserved a nomination in the supporting category.

Did an ebay search for Last Starfighter and found this listing.  Who knew?

"HERE IS THE INCREDIBLY RARE OFF-BROADWAY SHOW

ORIGINAL CAST RECORDING OF THE STAGE PRESENTATION OF

THE LAST STARFIGHTER

(YES, YOU HEARD ME...)

This is the rare cast album to the stage adaptation of the Nick Castle film:

                                                         The Last Starfighter

                                                     This CD has 16 tracks.

You are bidding on a open and played once excellent condition CD set.

This is the long out-of-print original kritzerland CD release.

I purchased this years ago for my own collection.  I've been a serious soundtrack collector all my life, and now have a need to liquidate my collection.  If you don't see it for sale, write me and ask me.  I've collected every John Williams score CD available and will be selling all of them.  Thanks for your interest, and for bidding!"

This is an original pressed cd, not a CD-R or duplicate!

I'm loving this birthday CD...I keep popping it out of my CD player every few songs to see whose birthday or who the artist is. Lots of random songs but put together so skillfully---what a treat, Tomovoz!

Cooler weather finally did arrive. We have gotten a drizzle of rain, and it's cooled things off considerably. I may be able to cool the house down enough so that I don't have to run the attic fan during the night.

I began my afternoon watching another episode of THE CLOSER (note I got the spelling/typing correct today). This was the one with the member of the paparazzi found dead on the pavement. Enjoyable episode, and I didn't immediately remember who the killer was. It took me awhile into the episode to recall the identity of the murderer.

Watched another ANGEL episode, too. This finally wrapped up the demon from below eath story arc, but opened a new story with Angel's former identity Angellus taking center stage at the end of the episode. Can't wait to see the next one to see this sexy slayer in action.

Earlier this week, Universal announced that in September, they 're going to release a double feature with two historical dramas not yet released on DVD: ANNE OF THE THOUSAND DAYS and MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS. I'm excited to get both of these.

I have ANNE on a laserdisc, but I haven't seen MARY in decades, and never had it on tape or laser.

Tonight, I will spend part of the evening watching the laserdisc of ANNE OF THE THOUSAND DAYS. Should make a nice comparison to the story going on presently with THE TUDORS (though ANNE is historically inaccurate, too, I believe.)

Wow!  That LAST STARFIGHTER CD sure must be a rare one if the seller bought it years ago!  I'm sure someone will snatch it up quick since it's long out-of-print.

Good afternoon DRs and H/Ks....

OK, so I've been in better moods in my life and I'm sure that that is coloring my impressions and reactions today.  But I'm about on the bottom of the floor by now.

First, my CD of "My Brother Nikhil" arrived yesterday afternoon, so I saved it to watch on a nice leisurely "midday on a Saturday."  I'm expecting something kind of "fun, coming of age, self-awareness" type of film, and probably with a little crazy Bollywood musical number here and there.  OH NO.....not at all.  I won't say anything else, for those who haven't seen it.

I'm also having to do some pretty intense thinking and decision making, about some very important and weighty personal matters.

And so, I think "I'll go cheer up with the wonderful folks at HHW."  Well, I certainly send out my deepest loving sympathies to all who have lost wonderful pet-friends from their families.  Just reading the news from several of the instances reduced me to tears at my computer.

I'm not trying to be morbid or maudlin..... but I also can't fake "funny."

The following stuff is trivial but may cheer up some of you:

A Brief Chat with Diane Disney Miller

In about two and a half years, there are going to be two museums about Walt Disney: the web-based one you’re visiting now http://disney.go.com/disneyatoz/familymuseum/index.html
and a real bricks and mortar museum in San Francisco. Beginning this month, the virtual museum will be bringing you periodic reports about the development of the tangible one. It seemed only appropriate to begin this series with some brief comments from Walt’s daughter, Diane – whose vision and energy have infused the effort thus far.

Q: With all that’s been written about Walt Disney, why is a Museum to tell his life story important?

Diane: Because there’s been so much said about him that’s vicious and malicious and wrong. It feels like he’s been attacked more viciously and in a more outlandish way than almost everybody. Crazy things have been said about him that have no truth. A fifth grade girl was doing a report about Walt Disney and she had taken a book out of the library and the first question she asked me was ''Did your Dad wash his hands compulsively?''

Q: And the Museum will help to get rid of that kind of nonsense?

Diane: What we will aim to do that with the Museum is what Richard and Katherine Greene have done with our Web site for years. Early on they got all these letters saying, ''This is fine, but where’s the real Museum?'' We had things that needed a place like the Academy Awards®. We thought we could have a small museum, and then the idea grew larger. We saw that we had to do it in a manner he’d be pleased with. It had to have a certain amount of theatricality and artistic presentation and be as accurate and complete as possible.

Q: What’s the most important artifact visitors will find there?

Diane: His voice. When they hear his voice, they will immediately know him better. We’re using his voice, the voice of my Uncle Roy, and interviews with a great number of other people. That will be our chief artifact.

Q: Who do you envision as the audience?

Diane: The audience will be people who are interested in him, of all ages. And maybe some who didn’t know they were interested until they stumbled in.

Q: When is it due to open?

Diane: We hope to open in the fall of 2009.

Q: If there’s one message you hope that people will come out with, what would that be?

Diane: I hope they come out liking him. But even if they don’t like him, I hope they take away a message from his life. Love of people. Curiosity about things. He wanted to entertain, families in particular. That was a big thrust, the importance of families and the things that families do together. He wanted to bring in all the things that interested him so. History, and not just of our country that he loved so much, but all kinds of history and nature and science and all the wonders of the world.

Oh yes---my DH and I have been cruising around listening to your CD!  Neither of us knew this song. We also liked the Phil Harris song and could picture our friends The Dady Brothers regaling their fans in Ireland with this song.

It made for a most pleasant evening, with one of my favorite meals---vietnamese noodles topped with salmon grilled in grape leaves followed by a trip to a gelato place my DH discovered. Yummmm.
