TCB-I called Danise just as she was about to post-sorry I took up her posting time, but we did have a nice long chat.

She also lost power during the storm. Otherwise all is well.

You did indeed send the disc; there were no titles on the tracks, and no further information. I know the songs are by Novello and Coward but I really only know a couple of Novello songs. Here's what I can figure out:

I had brunch with my Turner clients/friends and their family---I've gotten to know them over the years and love it when they come to visit. We picked up my gardening show producer on the way...she has become friends with these folks. too. The weather was glorious, breezy and cool, and we had lunch at their country club on the terrace. It wasn't crowded at all (maybe everyone was at church?) so we spent a good amount of time there.

Brunch was yummy and surprisingly cheap---I guess that's a perk for their exhorbitant membership fees.

Afterwards, we went to the new house, which our friend's family hadn't seen yet, and got some gardening advice from the gardening producer. She basically would love to come over there and garden for a living.

If I won the lottery...

Hey Bruce, I returned.

Next time I go to L.A. I hope to have more time to plan visits with friends, including an HHW gathering. In preparation for our visit, we need someplace to go where Sherlock will be welcome. When you are out eating, if there is a nice outdoor patio, please find out if well behaved dogs are permitted.

We just finished bolstering a beam in the basement after having a number of termite swarms the past week. DH did a brilliant engineering job; basically it has to last for a year or two---I'm sure my house will be demolished shortly after we sell it.

I've been living in my "starter home" for 28 years...now I realize I'm living in what's known as a "tear down"!

Now we're going to go out and try to find some dinner. Afterwards, we will install our FOURTH Westinghouse TV. The first one had a defective plug. The second was damaged in shipping and the screen was warped. The third was fine for months but suddenly the picture started jumping all over the screen after the set had been on for a half hour or so.

The annoying thing is, this trade should be covered under the year warranty, but the clock started ticking the day we got the first one, and not hte day we got one that actually worked. So although the warranty ran out, the fact that I paid for it with AMEX gave it another year of extended warranty. Yay!

But I don't recommend buying a TV from Crutchfield...the sets aren't packed well enough to stand abuse from UPS.

DR Laura-finally, about Sherlock and our trip.

Our friends (I met the husband the same day I met Keith and Penny) in Saugus convinced us to drive down in one day & spend the night with them. One day, 10 ½ hours later & Sherlock just relaxed in the back of the SUV except for short breaks. Once at there house he was an angel, didn’t even chase the cat. Three of us in a full bed was a bit crowded.

He was equally as good everywhere we went. Keith’s mother was thrilled to finally meet him. Our only problem in L.A. was finding places to eat with him, which weren’t located on a sidewalk. Maybe when he is older we will tie him on the outside of a rail, for now we won’t. When we did find restaurants that permitted dogs the place was packed with them.

Thank you, DR Jane. He's going to be here in 2 weeks - I just hope this crisis doesn't escalate significantly before he gets here. Apparently, my aunt has decided that she's not going to start that new med that was prescribed today.

Early Thursday morning we drove to the charming town of Santa Barbara. We stopped to collect my almond macaroons and have a late, and delicious, breakfast at the Andersen Bakery. We chatted with tourists from England (with Sherlock we meet the most interesting people) & had a very enjoyable time.

We then headed to Carmel where dogs are very welcomed almost everywhere, or it seemed so. Most of the guests at the Cypress-Inn where we stayed had dogs (a Doris Day influence).

The first night we had a wonderful meal at a charming restaurant called Casanova.

I've eaten, and am watching the special features on The Hustler - sadly, they're loaded with Dr. Drew Casper, Professor of Cinema at USC - if there's a worse person on these awful DVD features I haven't seen him. This guy is the most smug, self-centered, annoying-looking (dear Dr. Casper, just because you are appearing in these extras really didn't mean you had to have facial work - and I'm not talking about a LITTLE work, either), nincompoop ever. And his voice is so irritating that you want to throw something at him. I'm sorry, but these pathetic people who are entrusted with these featurettes only need the TALENT from the film - if they can't get that, don't do the featurette.

The morning of our anniversary we took Sherlock to the beach for his first off leash romp in 3 months, and his first visit to the beach. Oh what a happy boy he was. He discovered the ocean isn’t for drinking & seaweed isn’t for eating.

He romped and played with numerous dogs, always checking to see where we were and returning to us.

While walking around town found a nice Mexican restaurant for lunch & to give Sherlock a rest. Late in the afternoon we sat on the patio of the hotel (once again resting Sherlock), next to the fireplace & had drinks before dinner.

Dinner was an incredible meal at Le Coq D’or- http://www.lecoqdor.com/menu2.html . What the chef did with artichokes was luscious. And the French onion soup was great. Bruce you would have loved the whipped cream on our cheese cake. We even ate every bit of it.

It was a perfect day with our perfect dog (almost perfect since we worry about him) in the town we spent the first night of our honeymoon 38 years ago.

I went to a party today to celebrate the 100the birthday of the Wattles Mansion. It was a wonderful affair, which included a small car show, award presentations to special guests, and clowns!
