I have read BROADWAY BABYLON which I will NOT recommend.  If you have regularly read books about Broadway and the usual Broadway auto & bios, you have all of this information.

The ONE thing I did find out....don't know why I didn't know this....is that Ruth Gordon had an illegitimate son by Jed Harris.

PORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY - that should be the title of something or other, shouldn't it?

Too bad it's not Friday/media check day.  :)

I think DR CASON doing a tribute to Lucille Ball with his makeup for CABARET is an inspired decision!!!  Kudos!  :o

Has anyone ever noticed that Lucille Ball bears an uncanny resemblance to Debra Messing?

Jose, I'm so glad you liked Frost/Nixon. I felt the same way. The friends I was with did not remember much about Watergate but I remember it very well. I was 20 and 21 when it all happened and was obsessed with it. Even though I knew everything that was going to happen they pulled out the suspense and drama and it was real theatre. Langella gave a superb performance and deserved his Tony. I also think his thank you at the Tonys was truly classy.

Good morning, all!  I slept late, and now I have to run downtown and deal with Toyland; I'm the only one of us office workers around today, so I need to verify there hasn't been another breakin. We're all anxious since the robbers know everything's packed away for easy removal, and we have sound equipment, copiers, and other expensive objects waiting for the taking.  I will verify everything is safely locked up and return or I'll call the police and wait to make another report.  I must admit I'm not very keen these days about being down there alone.

DR JRand56, I'm currently reading Ruth Gordon's books, and her autobio MY SIDE is quite wonderful and very frank. Her first husband Gregory Kelly, who starred with her on Broadway in Booth Tarkington's SEVENTEEN, died young and on tour. Her account of the marriage and her affairs and several quite painful abortions is very honest, and her account of his death is quite moving.  In 1927, or so, she began an affair with Harris and decided to keep the baby, who was born in October in Paris.  I'm at this point in the book, and I recommend it immensely.

Why hasn't darling elmore returned my call and/or e-mail?

As I reported yesterday morning, I was out with my friend Kirk last night, and when I got in - a bit tipsy -I went to bed and didn't check my messages.  At 3:38 this morning someone called my cell phone, but I listened to it ring and went back to bed.  If I neglected something important, let me know.  I do know I sent you a couple of emails yesterday, one about a general manager, one about George Dvorsky, and I'm puzzled.

DRs TCB and MBarnum, welcome back.

Okay, I'm off to the office.  If there's a break in, I hope I don't arrive in the midst of it.

HAPPY FOURTH TO ONE AND ALL!

I'm on my way to The Pittsburgh Zoo, some one told me it's all happening at the zoo; for a day of bonding with my relatives.  No!  Not merely the ones in the cages, but several cousins who live close to the Ohio border who are going to the zoo, too. . .

JRand56, if you would avoid FROST/NIXON like the plague, you would be making a terrible mistake.  I saw this same production with Michael Sheen and Frank Langella in London and I concur with Jose's critique.  It is absolutely brilliant and both Sheen and Langella are magnificent.  A wonderful, compelling evening in the theatre.

It's the subject matter - not the actors....both of whom I like.  I guess I feel the same way about Langella's Nixon (after reading a few interviews he gave) that I feel about Anthony Hopkins' Nixon.

I watched these interviews when they were broadcast.  THAT I found fascinating.  To see them recreated, I am not sure I want to do that.  Just my own feeling.....

For me it would be as if a bunch of actors re-did the Army-McCarthy hearings (I think it has been a TV movie).....why do it when we have POINT OF ORDER?
