Thank you kindly, WEL. I really DON'T have an ego about any of it, that's the joke. These people are mostly very young. There will be a column about this over on our new site, but DVD, for some reason, has made everyone into an armchair expert. This didn't happen with VHS, it didn't happen with BETA, it didn't happen with laserdisc - it's just very curious. Most of them are not in the business, not that that means anything. One of them, in this amusing thread that's turned into a bashing ME thread, said they'd saved a post in which I said that Robert Harris was a sham (I don't THINK I used that word in relation to Mr. Harris personally) because I suggested that the "restoration" of My Fair Lady was made to seem all out of proportion to what was actually done. The negative for that film was not damaged beyond repair, it was in pretty good shape - you can see for yourself if you watch the documentary. They're cleaning it up - they did a good job of cleaning it up, repairing splices and tears and getting dirt off. This is not MAJOR - major is faded, major is destroyed, major is shrunk.
