TOD

DVD - Racing Fever, from DR MBARNUM
CD - Nipper's 30's Hits
VHS - Easy to Wed, inspired by DR MATTH's posts yesterday.

I saw the MAD MEN title on the AMC schedule when I was surfing last night, but didn't know what it was, I will try to catch it when it comes around again.

TOD - Media check:

CD [car]:  Keely Smith: The Essential Capitol Collection.  I think Keely was one of the best we've ever had singing American Popular Song.
CD [home]:  Milla: Taking a Chance on Love, along with Anita O'Day's Finest Hour
DVD:  The Page Turner [on bk's recommendation]
VHS:  Something for Everyone [w/Angela Lansbury & Michael York]
Bedside Table:  [very soon!]  Harry Potter 7

Yes.  It was an unavoidable compulsion.

Top o' the mornin' all.

Congrats to DR MusicGuy on the escrow coming through, and to DR Cillaliz on the interview.

DR Jason, glad you finally made it home and can put the ugly travel mess behind you.  Happy chicken day!

Congrats also to DR JMK on becoming a DVD reviewer.

Last night I decided to check out a couple of shows at the Midtown International Theater Festival.

The first one was Nosferatu, playing at the Where Eagles Dare Theater.  I was very pleasantly surprised by the creative staging and thought it was wonderfully directed.  The acting was good, and they told the story very well.  It turns out that what they presented, while it stood on its own quite nicely, was actually Act 2 of a larger show, the first part of which was presented last March.  They said they plan to put the whole thing together and present the entire piece - when? - why for Halloween, of course!

Te second show was Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter,? at the Mainstage Theater.  This is a new production of George Axelrod's Broadway show about a reporter who interviews Rita Marlowe and makes some unsavory deals with the devil along the way.  There is a film with the same name, but my understanding is that the story in the film is entirely different from the one in the show.  This one was more silly, which I don't ordinarily like, but I found myself unusually entertained.

All in all, a good night.

Friday morning greetings!  Today is my last information-waitressing day until August 11 - YAY!

Last night's book group potluck was great - in addition to the barbecued chicken we provided, our guests brought:

Shallot quiche
Mixed salad greens
Salt-crusted sourdough bread
Veggies & dip
Homemade mango ice cream and Milano cookies

We enjoyed part 1 of Helen Mirren's Elizabeth I.

There's always tomorrow
For dreams to come true.
Believe in your dreams come what may.
There's always tomorrow
For dreams to come true.
And so little time in a day.
We all pretend
The rainbow has an end
And you'll be there, my friend,
Someday...
There's always tomorrow
For dreams to come true.
Tomorrow is not far away.

The lyrics to this song never really made sense to me.

ROCK HUNTER :)

Well I will be the Vice President in Charge of Operations, but you will be the titular head of the Corporation.

Jayne Mansfield's response can be imagined or remembered.  I am still laughing for than 40 years after seeing it for the first time.

RESULTS spoilers for last night'sSO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE.

*
*
*
*

rant ahead.

I am so so annoyed with both the judges and the voting public.

To me two of the weakest dancers are still there (sara and kameron).  And we lost 2 great dancers.

I get that the judges wanted to save jamie. She was my first choice to save as well. But lauren, come on. I am not liking her much at all.  Okay maybe they did say one thing that was right.  She has not gone as far as she can go, yet anya is already at the top of her game. But i think anya is a better dancer.

Although to me lauren and neil and danny/anya's dances were 2 of the best on wed night.

As for the men though, i am LIVID. I love love love Hok.  He is the best solo dancer (and did the best solo last night). It is just a crime that he will not make the tour.  I get it that he probably had the weakest partner routine of the 3 in the bottom. But neil and danny are the same type of dancer. And to say that dominic and sara already represent B dancing. Well Hok is a thousand times better than them.

Ughh. I was really upset that the public did not put lacey/kameron in the B3. Because i think kameron would have gone for sure.  I am hating that his partnering with lacey has kept him safe all this time.

And what is up with the public loving sara/pasha. They did not like either of them before.

4.1-Magnitude Earthquake Hits San Francisco AreaFriday , July 20, 2007

 SAN FRANCISCO —

A magnitude 4.1 earthquake jolted San Francisco Bay area residents awake early Friday.

There were reports of items falling off shelves and broken glass, but no immediate reports of serious damage or injuries.

The earthquake struck at 4:42 a.m. about 2 miles east of Oakland, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, and it could be felt on both sides of the San Francisco Bay.

An early morning wake-up for DR Pulliam.

I did some librarian detective work and emailed DR DakotaCelt at work.  She's been having problems with her home computer and at work she's working off-site and cannot access HHW from the computer there.

She's OK and thanks everyone for their concern.
