I have raked up a big sack of pine needles for the men to take to the alley.

TOD:

I have spend many a lovely summer evening at the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival.  They perform under a big tent on the grounds of Boscobel, a restoration of a Revolution-era residence on the banks of the Hudson River.  It is a breathtaking setting, directly across the river from the West Point campus.  You can bring a picnic supper and dine on the grounds overlooking the river, or purchase a catered gourmet meal.  The plays are streamlined and somewhat "tarted up" for broader appeal, but are usually still quite enjoyable.  Unless you get a really sultry humid evening, the whole experience is quite enjoyable.

Excellent fundraiser vibes and xylophones to BK!

BTW - have you tried elevating the head of your bed?  We have 4 volumes of World Book yearbooks under each corner of our headboard and that has helped DH Richard enormously with a problem similar to the one you describe.  Of course, so did retirement, but that's another issue  ;)

Good morning!

It got cool enough last night for me to turn off the central A/C and fling open windows and doors with the attic fan running. The house was noticeably cooler this morning, and it's continued to be. I will probably be able to do this two more days before having to stay closed up for the entire 24 hours of every day.

I don't know what goodies the mailman will deliver. I'm hopeful the MGM musical box will come today (was shipped Thursday), and I've got two Blu-ray discs on the way, too.

If the MGM musicals come today, THE PIRATE will be the first film in the player. If not, I'll continue with MOONLIGHTING and ATOM MAN VS. SUPERMAN serial.

Reminder about TV tonight.

THE CLOSER has a new episode at 9 p.m.

Holly Hunter's new series SAVING GRACE premieres immediately following THE CLOSER at 10.

I have seen the outdoor drama THE LOST COLONY several times, and the first time I saw it, I was very, very moved by it. Haven't seen it in quite a few years, however.

TOD: BK, DR Sandra, and I once attended an excellent outdoor concert by Jason Graae at the Hollywood Bowl.

Just thought I'd check in before we take the twins to the Zoo.

And that is all for now. Ciao-ders!

Oh...I, too, loved the Public's production of TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA in Central Park. Loved it so much, in fact, that I saw it twice and then ran out to get the cast recording. I thought the cast was wonderful - especially Megan Lawrence, Norm Lewis and Elisa Renee Goldsberry (I think that's her name). Rosario Dawson was most definitely the weakest link that production...

TOD - Several years ago I took my mother, well into her 80's, to Kettering, Ohio's Fraze Pavillion to see Keith Lockhart conduct the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra.  You see, Mother has a huge crush on KL, so we splurged on seats right up front.  When he came onstage, she said to me, "He has the bluest eyes!"  Fraze Pavillion is named for Ernie Fraze, the inventor of the pull-tab (like on a soft drink or beer can).

Also, for the past several summers the Ohio Humanities Council has put on a series of Chautauqua programs.  We weren't able to get to any of them this summer, but in other years we've enjoyed Johnny Appleseed, General Sherman, Zelda Fitzgerald, etc.

I wouldn't mind going to Chik-Fil-A myself today, but I have a feeling best friend John (with whom I'm having lunch) will opt for McDonalds. Not my favorite place, but he's let me choose the last three times, so he's due.

THE LOST COLONY is done on the North Carolina coast (at Manteo). On the other side of the state in the Smoky Mountains are two wonderful outdoor dramas: UNTO THESE HILLS and HORN IN THE WEST. I enjoyed seeing both of these when I was younger, but again, I haven't seen them in a long, long time. I assume they're still running in the summer.

Hmmm...

I see that it is correctly spelled with a "ck".

I also see ( :( ) that there is not a store located close to NYC.

The Chick-Fil-A that's close to my house (just a few blocks away) had been closed for a couple of weeks for renovations, but I believe they're opening back up either today or soon.
