Now I forget who said it in those interviews.....but it makes perfect sense....and now I will never forget it:
GYPSY has the old show business snap and sparkle from Jule Styne and the darker future of show business from Stephen Sondheim.
Or something to that effect.
When I'm asked what
Such Good Friends is like, and don't have time to go into detail, I tell people it's like Gypsy. This is not a boast about its quality; it's just the type of show it is. Lots of humor, very catchy songs, on-stage and not on-stage numbers, and a serious side. Of course I have no mother-daughter material, nor a strip tease. (If I could figure out how to work in a strip tease to a show about the early days of television, I would.

)
Yes, I did write up a new version of the ending this morning. And restructured the scene that involves a forget-your-cares seduction (along the lines of You'll Never Get Away From Me), so it's been a big day.
Question for FJL and BK: How many days of rehearsal are you planning for your NYMF shows?
