I'm having a nice, relaxing day.  But it will be interrupted by a trip to Jerry's to meet a former LACC Theater Academy person who has some "information" for me - he's very long-winded, and I didn't really want to eat at a restaurant today, so I may just have some soup and rye bread, or some poached eggs, and then some fruit later.

And then it will be DVD time - I must figure out what I want to watch.

I had a wonderful time at HAIRSPRAY. It's beautifully done, and the music is so infectious that I got drawn in at the beginning, and just never let go.

Didn't understand why Travolta chose to use that weird accent (which he didn't stick with in his singing). I wanted more Tracy dancing in the finale, and I didn't much care for the finale gowns for Travolta or Queen Latifa.

Still, those are minor quibbles. It's a super version of the Broadway show.

I was most impressed with James Marsden who, I thought, stole the show. All the kids are excellent.

I spent the remainder of the afternoon watching the first disc in the HOME IMPROVEMENT 7 set. This is the season where the youngest son dresses in black, a major conflict for the parents.

I still like the Tool Time segments more than the home segments; Al and Tim's rivalry is typical jock juvenalia which is funny.

I seem to notice the actors reading off cue cards more on this show than on other shows. Were the scripts not ready until the last minute?

I'm certainly getting through these half hour episodes quicker than I did THE MUPPET SHOW episodes. Of course, by the late 1990s, there was only 22 minutes of show for half hour episodes, and cut out the opening credits and that reduces it more. Got five episodes watched already.

I think when I finish this first disc, I will treat myself to a feature film just to take a break from all these TV episodes back to back. It may be THE PUMPKIN EATER.

Guess I'll head down now and read a bit of HALF BLOOD PRINCE. Then, I have the guest bath to clean. Afterwards, it's on to the rest of disc 1 in HOME IMPROVEMENT and then a movie.

Marvelous Matt was here again today. He touched up the patch in the bathroom where the new medicine cabinet left a hole (new one is narrower than the old one). This was touch-up #3. It keeps showing. It still shows. It'll require at least one more attempt.

DR LAURA can probably relate to this. I hope DR MUSIC GUY's new projects go better than what Laura and I have been dealing with.

Marvelous Matt really is a Godsend. Today we moved several pieces of furniture up to the "guest room" on the 3rd floor. Of course, every time we move a piece of furniture away from the wall we find a new crack or other touch-up needed. It really is endless. major job security for handymen and painters.

I watched IVAN'S CHILDHOOD the other evening. It was a bit different from what I was expecting, but I did enjoy it. I thank DR MATTH for mentioning it here. I'm told it's been out a while on VHS, but I hadn't heard of it.

Today, the monsoon finally came to my house -- a few showers off and on the last week or so, but today, what we call in Texas, "a gully washer" -- Clap, clap, clap, clap!

We needed it, badly!!

Did anyone watch THE MAN WHO TURNED TO STONE on TCM? Wow, what a fun movie! That is one old horror film I seemed to have always missed.

If I could be guaranteed that it would be Patti's final performance, I might even go.
