Last night, I took in two plays that were part of the Summer Play Festival.  Well, one and a half plays, to be exact.  >:(
My intention was to do a double header, and the timing listed on the website allowed for it, so I bought a ticket to both plays.

When I got to the theater to pick up the tickets, they apparently "updated" the running time of the earlier play, and added an intermission where there was none before.  Bottom line - first play would no longer end before second began.  So I only saw the first act of Missing Celia Rose.  Didn't want to disturb everyone by walking out in the middle of the second act.  What I saw seemed interesting. I do wonder what the conclusion was.

The second play was Devil Land.  I thought it was really great for a festival play.  Very unusual - different.  Not the same old thing just slightly repackaged that is so often the cast with new plays.  I give lots and lots of credit when I see something so original and new.  That said, it's a very strange play, and highly disturbing on so many levels.  And they brought Dr. Seuss' The Grinch into it in a significant way. (I know - I know, that in itself is disturbing  :)  )  I kept wondering if they needed to get special permission from the Dr. Seuss estate to do that.

Anyway - the actors were terrific.  And I thought they did a wonderful job in general with the direction, sets, lighting.  It needs a little bit of revision, but I think it definitely could have life beyond the festival.

Later today, I am going to see DF Skip's show, that Fred reported about after he attended the opening the other night.  Always a treat to hear Skip's music.  Looking forward to that.

On the medical side, I got the results from my sleep study.

It turns out that I have Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Mild Restless Leg Syndrome, Hypersomnia and yes, I do snore but he said only mild to moderate.

What that means is I stop breathing an average of 25 times an hour for up to 43 seconds.  During that time my oxygen level falls to the mid to low 60's.  Which explains why I'm so TIRED all of the time.

Also the reason I was having rolling REMS was because towards morning, I'm so tired out from not sleeping, I finely fall into a very deep sleep and go into REM sleep for far longer then the average person.

The doctor asked me if I dream and I told him I have epics.  Now I know why.

My heart is ok--so far.  The doctor told me that my kind of sleeping puts alot of strain on it.

I'm going to have to have a couple of sleep studys done while they test to find if the mask/machine will help me.  Baring that working, I might have to have some surgery.  Not likely-- I'm told that most people respond to the mask/machine but it is possible.

My fear is that I do have a fear of anything over my mouth.  I go into a panic if someone puts their hand over my mouth or if I wake up and the blanket is over my face.  I hope I'm going to be able to take that mask.

Anyway I go back for the next study on Saturday, August 11th.

Good morning Julie.  Have we met yet?  I've been so out of things these past couple of months.

I really do need to make an effort to get my life back to normal.

I've signed up for a class on Money management.  It's just for three weeks on Tuesday night at six but I thought it would be a start on getting me out of the house.

I'm going to have to go soon because I promised Thelma I would come over to her house so we could go out for lunch and then go do some shopping.  That should be fun.  :)

I'm going to busy myself downstairs now with a few chores, and then start thinking about what's for lunch.

I'm thinking that once everything settles down, I might start taking some computer classes or maybe some singing lessons (just for the fun of it) or piano lessions or photography classes.

The dogs are doing well.  I haven't been able to take them to the dog park these past couple of weeks because of painting the house.  That's another reason I took this weekend off.   They need to go have some fun too.

I won't paint next weekend because of the sleep study but I'm afraid that after that, I will try to get the living room done.  Then it's on to the kitchen and finely (maybe) my room.  Then the whole house will be redone.

Thanks for the update, DRDANISE.

Go see a musical!!!

I would if there was something around that I wanted to see.

Meat Loaf is back at Ruth Eckard either next month or in October and I really would like to go.  I wish I could get over my fear of coming over that darn bridge.  Seeing what happened the other day doesn't make me feel any better about it either.

Why can't he come to Tampa!

Good morning, all!  I slept very late, and I feel wonderful.  I will run down to the NYPL at noon but I have no plans beyond that.

DR Danise, I'm very happy to see you this morning and I'm glad things are fine on the job front.  August 15 will be the 6-month anniversary of my dad's death, and I still have bad days and moments of grief.

BK, I did find an email from Michael Cassara which sounded positive but vague. He wrote:  I will check for sure later, but I believe they were both two who needed to be danced first, and therefore likely being set up for Wednesday - so they might not have been given calls yet.

This only puzzles me since I don't understand why they wouldn't have been notified before August 1!

DR Elmore, do you have times when it hits you out of no where?  I can be totally fine one moment and then cry like a baby for no reason.  I had a very bad day yesterday.  I can't even explain why.

I believe Ms Norma Desmond said that to Mr Cecil B. DeMille when discussing her return to the screen in SALOME....   8)

DANISE,
When I've been through times of great grief, such as following my father's passing, I too would find that it would sometimes seem to come out of nowhere and hit me like a ton of bricks. Then, too, there were the times when anything having to do with him would stir it up.
One of the boxes'o'stuff that I haven't yet gone through is family stuff. It's been thirteen years since his passing and it still stirs up a certain amount of grief.

For me, the biggest help was finally settling the estate. As long as the estate was unsettled I had it on my mind, and every time I worked on it it stirred things up again. Once that was done, it was as if a black cloud had suddenly cleared.

It WILL get easier. I have no doubt all your painting has been good therapy for you. I do suggest you do something FUN--if not a musical, then something else. The photography class, perhaps. Focus on the future as you put aside the past.

My best to you.
