I like Freedom Fries, of course.

And fried hamburgers.

Mostly these past few years everything has been baked.

Bacon is probably my favorite fried food!!  With lettuce and tomato.

I love french fries straight out of the hot oil with a sprinkling of salt and vinegar.

One of the busiest concessions on the Boardwalk at Rehoboth Beach is Thrasher's, which sells just fries (and drinks) - and to the Grandlads' great consternation, they do NOT offer Ketchup - just salt and vinegar!

Tuesday morning greetings!  Back to work for me today.

It is excessively humid here in SW Ohio - we're under a heat warning and smog alert.  It's downright nasty.

Good morning, all!  First of all, enormous apologies to DR FJL, Skip, DR Julie, the glorious-voiced Milla, and the glorious-voiced Guy Haines for skipping out on what I am certain was a glorious meal: not only is Skip Kennon a wonderful musician but he and FJL host the best salon in Manhattan.  My biggest mistake was not cancelling yesterday morning after I posted that I'd had a bad evening: I was so looking forward to auditions that I guess I thought the momentum of the day would carry me.  However, my health was acting up yesterday, and I spent a bit of time during the day running to and from the men's room.  And the room for the auditions was freezing: you could hang meat in that room. For a person who likes a cool temperature, I was quite cold by the end of the day.

Along with that, I can be a complete social boob, and DR FJL and I came to a complete misunderstanding of the time for arrivals and it was my mistake that I thought I was arriving around 6! At any rate I arrived 45 minutes early, not feeling great, but with nowhere to go but a restroom facility.  So I called Fred and Skip and cancelled, got into a taxi, and went home. I went to bed shortly thereafter.  I feel much better today, although my stomach still seems queazy, and my shame at upsetting several friends I hold quite dear wounds my heart.

DR Jason, your beautiful "Giants In The Sky" was quite wonderful!

On another note, BK, why didn't you work with the Fred applicants a bit to see what you could get out of them?  We certainly had the time for it during the day. When Houston Grand Opera did BABES IN TOYLAND, we lost our original leading man, George Dvorsky, and the young actor who replaced him gave a great audition and then moved progressively downhill as an actor.

Same weather here, DR GINNY.

We are having two new air cooling units installed at the theatre....one failed, but replacing BOTH of them was about the same price as replacing one.  And they are 12 years old!!

So walking around in my leather costume shouldn't be as terrible as it was last night.

I really wanted to post something. But now i've forgotten! Oh well.

In other news, i saw HAIRSPRAY the movie last night and loved it!

It was very bizarre because five minutes before the movie there were only 6 people in the audience. But then by the time the movie started it was quite full!  I guess with all the commercials and previews there is a lot of time to get into the theatre.

Since the movie was a musical we saw a lot of musical themed previews, including the Beatles/Julie Taymor movie (looks interesting). And Enchanted (the half cartoon princess movie), which looks cute.

Back to the movie, I LOVED niki!  She was a wonderful lead!  And i actually really loved amanda bynes too (as her best friend).

I thought zach efron was quite good. And i always enjoy brittany snow (as amber).

Christopher Walken was okay. He seemed so old to me. I"m not sure exactly the range of ages that have played this role.

As for John Travolta, i thought he was good.  But not great. There are so many actors i think could have done just as good a job or better. But i do think he was fun to watch and sort of sweet.

The 2 hours just flew by. They are so lucky they found the right lead. That is what made the move for me.

One more thing about the movies. They have the most interesting treats now.  I just can't believe all the things they serve.

I really don't like eating during the movie or before.  But they had these coupons in the paper for free food. There were coupons for free: milkshake, beavertail, pogo, chicken fingers, fries, onion rings, spring rolls.

I'm sure there was more.

It says one coupon per person, but they did not mark our tickets.

Before the movie my mom had a milkshake and beavertail.

And then after the movie we had chicken fingers and oriental springrolls. The two things i had were very good!

I'm surprised they keep having these coupons every few days. And this is not some dump theatre. IT's one of the biggest in montreal!

The Light Opera of Manhattan (LOOM) version ran for years between the 1970s and the company's closing.  There was even a published vocal selections, new book and lyrics by Alice Hammerstein (Oscar II's sister, I believe), and a totally sugared and tarted up version bearing no remeblance to the original.

Speaking of Toyland, I have a meeting there this morning with Miles Kreuger's assistant Eric around 11 am, so I have to pack up and head out.

DR JRand56, the actor in question from the HGO production continues to work: I believe he was the Raoul for a while - may still be - in Broadway in POTO.  He was a friendly and handsome young man with a wonderful voice, but he wasn't a great actor although he gave a great audition.

DR Jose, take care of that vocal score!

Yesterday is the first Aug 6 in my memory when no publuc notice was made of the anniversary of the attack on Hiroshima.

When word of the attack filtered back to the US, there was an initial presumption that the war was over. I found this event most distressing - I had been promised a pony ride on my Birthday (8 Aug), and the Seaside Park, NJ summer concessions all closed for the celebration.

Imagine what the news coverage would have looked like given today's technology. In those good old days, the only moving picture testimonials available were those provided by the motion picture houses, many days after an international event. (Of course this was a decided improvment over our early days of Independence  when news of the Napoleonic Wars had to travel by ship to Philadelphia.)

Imagine: Napoleon Loses at Waterloo - film at 11!
