A PLETHORA OF PILES

Well, you've read the notes, the notes had piles and piles of words and sentences and paragraphs, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're making piles of their own right now.

Ask BK Day: What shows will you be attempting to see while in NY? ( or would just like to see, if you had all the time you wanted to do so)

Has anyone noticed that Los Angeles is LA and New York is NY, but no other cities that I can think of speak of themselves in this way. Do new yorkers commonly  refer to their state as NY? Or is that just the lazy Los Angelian who does so?

There are some things that are closing just before or right when I get in.   I'd love to see Frost/Nixon if it's still there, as well as The Year Of Magical Thinking.  Then I'd like to see Legally Blonde and Xanadu, just to see them.

Here was last week's Unseemly Trivia Question:

This unlikely musical hit had several interesting things about its original production.  It was directed by someone better known for directing classic straight plays.  Its choreographer had, several years before created the choreography for a classic musical and would repeat that chore in the film version of said musical.  A slightly lower-level person on the creative team would go on to become a major figure in the musical theater just a few short years later.  The musical's cast included a star who would not appear on Broadway again for over twenty years.  Said star also had a bit of bad luck just a few years prior to coming back to Broadway, said bad luck being well-publicized.  Another member of the company would, just a few years later, go on to star in a hugely popular TV series.  Another member of the company would go on to movie stardom a few years later when said company member starred in an iconic film.  This musical also suffered a curious fate.

So:

Name the musical and its director.

Name the choreographer and said choreographer's few year's prior classic musical.

Name the slightly lower-level member of the creative team who would go on to become a major musical theater person.

Name the show's star, name the star's return to Broadway vehicle, and tell us the well-publicized bad luck incident involving the star.

Name the company member who would go on to star in a hugely popular TV series and name the series.

Name the company member who would achieve movie stardom a few years later by starring in an iconic film and name the film.

Name the curious fate that befell the musical.

I felt this was an easy one, and yet we only had two players, both of whom guessed correctly.  And the answers are:

Irma La Douce, Peter Brook

Onna White, The Music Man

John Kander, who wrote the dance music for Irma

Elizabeth Seal, The Corn Is Green (revival), fired from the London company of A Chorus Line just prior to opening (playing Cassie)

Fred Gwynne, The Munsters

Elliot Gould, MASH

The curious fate that befell the musical was that it was turned into a non-musical film.

Our High Winners were FJL and Noel.  I put their names into our handy-dandy Electronic Hat, which randomly chose FJL as this week's Highest Winner.

The city of New York is just "The City."

!

[whether that includes the boroughs is questionable!]

we did have a cute twelve-year-old kid and some excellent females. I think, in fact, that we’re covered female-wise, but I still need three more men.

Why bk, I never realized you were so insatiable.

Yesterday the chinchy bassa developer went to bankruptcy court.

After the paper has been hammering on him for the last few months, there is no mention of the outcome of the proceedings.

So I guess i'll go back to bed...

DR Elmore, I'm glad you got home in time to see THE CLOSER. I like the SWAT guys, too. With Brenda's parents there, they almost seemed like members of the family...older brothers or something.

I have the day off today since the next episode is coming in very late, but when I'm back and work I'll check and see what Brenda is saying to Gabriel. That was a touching moment!

Tonight I am making the ultimate sacrifice.

I am taking my mom to see Clay Aiken. (She's a huge IDOL fan, and I've never seen the show.)

Anything I should know?

The symphony is backing him and I have a lot of friends who play in the ASO, so I may take mom down and introduce her to a few friends, if I can overcome my embarrasment at being there.

It will be fun to take mom, anyway. I just hope it's not too hot!

A friend on a Randy Newman related list posted this picture from her cat-a-day calendar, and I thought it was worth sharing:

I took one of my cats (my favorite, I'm sorry I have to admit it!) to the vet yesterday. He has been throwing up bile for the last 2 days but otherwise seems fine.

We changed to a new natural food last night and so far, so good. I have no idea what the problem was, but I'm glad to see he may be OK. The next step would be hard on him (and very expensive!) and he's already stressed out enough from watching me pack up stuff. Cats HATE change! (I can relate!)

I like Alan Tudyk too...he was great in SPAMALOT. He looks like he could be the brother of my friend who's getting married next month. I heard he was also great in KNOCKED UP.

We moved our first piece of furniture out of the house last night---an antique wash stand that my mother loaned me. Although I've taken over about 30 boxes of stuff, this is the first time that something has left that has made more room in the house.
