I am hungry. I could go for a stack of pancakes.

Even if they were out in the rain?  ;)

I have to say that this statistic would not surprise me. I used to be astounded when I'd get good students who didn't have a clue about general world geography. And for average and poor students, they could not seem to differentiate between a city name, a state name, or a country name. I might ask "What is the capital city of France?" and someone would answer "Spain."

Even though I was an English teacher, I kept pull down maps all over my classroom, and we NEVER read a story that had a specific setting that I didn't pull down a map and talk about where things were happening.

Good for you, Matt! I always applaud news stories that provide a map. Geography hasn't gotten much attention in education in quite some time that I'm aware of.

TOD:

Off the top of my head I don't know which views I'd call my favorites. Maine has no end of wonderfully scenic spots; I love its rugged beauty.

My friend the art collector lives at the top of the Hollywood Hills and has what is truly a million-dollar view of much of Hollywood. He's a view-lover and can also afford it. I cannot; I must be more pragmatic when it comes to housing. I've always liked to live near a body of water and that has played a role in the places I choose to live. I CAN afford that!

RE: Orange Julius.

No i have never had one. But there is something here called Orange Julep (which i'm pretty sure is the same thing). And let me tell you it is absolutely delicious.  It is orangy and frothy and so good.  There is a big orange hut here that sells them. And while i do not go that often. It is one of my favorite things. You can even buy a lesser quality version at the grocery store!

My friend Mark just rented a condo in the Diamond Heights area of SF.   From his terrace, you have a great view of Twin Peaks and a more than awesome view of SF.  It's fantastic.

Oh, before I forget. The BBC did a wonderful SWEENEY TODD dramatic production about a year ago. Did any H/Ks see that? I loved it.

I must confess, that sitting here at my computer in my dining room, looking out at the waters of Puget Sound, Vashon Island, and the foothills of the Cascade Mountains; there aren't too many more beautiful views than the one from this apartment.

Well, if I can't sing today, I should do my laundry...so that I'll have clean clothes for Thursday's auditions. :)

And I should return my books to the library...

Tuesday morning greetings!  I stayed home today with a "sinus headache," which will permit me to get some in-town errands done and to accompany my aunt, who's having a procedure this morning at the hospital near our home.

Ahhhh....a TRUE "euphemism"!

I feel bad for Miss South Carolina. How sad to be under a great deal of pressure, give a dumb answer, and have it reported over and over again on the news just to be laughed at.

This is something I hadn't heard about.  But, I found this LINK to comments made by Miss Teen South Carolina.

Truly, though, I believe that if she is a true Southern Belle, she will handle it graciously.

RE: BIG BROTHER and Amber.

I agree I think her comments have been mostly due to ignorance and not malice.  But I do think that since she made those comments her popularity has been down to like 0.5% or something.  I can't remember if she has been on eric's eviction card (i don't think so since she was taken off the block). But she was the choice to get nominated this week and last week.

I think that's most likely due to her selling of her soul to Danielle, offering up all those incentives for being taken off the block...and selling Jameka down the river after saying she wouldn't.

Amber is a @$#*X$)%(#*!

I start school tomorrow and am procrastinating today.  Nowhere near ready.  As I wasn't planning on going back to teaching music, all my "stuff" is just thrown into a closet.  Not to mention things I may have thrown away.  I'm going back there because it's where my benefits are, not because I want to be in the classroom.  I'm sure that will all change when I step foot into the new Kindergarten class tomorrow.  But for now, I'm a bit overwhelmed - but only for now :)

DR FJL, Julie, etc. - I just read the press release for The Last Starfighter and noticed that Danny Binstock is cast in the lead.  Do you happen to know if this is the same Danny Binstock who used to moonlight as a pianist for The Capitol Steps in DC, and who went to American University?  I can't really tell from the pic if it's the same guy, since I usually saw Dan with a crew cut.  *And he's actually quite a good pianist too.
