While I certainly would agree about NYMF's noble aims, I would also say that it started out as one thing and has morphed into something wholly other. Part of the reason is that it has been abused by some shows who have continually bent the very strict Equity rules (bent being a kind word) so much that it is no longer possible to just get up and do the best you can do with limited finances. The bar keeps being raised and raised. Ironically, though, the shows doing the bending are seldom the audience favorites, which is, at least, gratifying in some way. Yes, chaos, chaos is understandable. But when shows are paying the sort of dough they're paying, then incompetence is not only unacceptable, it's debilitating and indefensible. That said, I shall now be on my way to rehearsal, and I, too, encourage all lurkers and readers to attend as many NYMF shows as possible.
