And the word of the day is: PROTHALAMION!
"OH PRIM, ATONAL coloratura," the maestro asked of his diva, "When you sing the PROTHALAMION tonight, could you please do so in the same tempi as my orchestra?  At last night's performance, I had to wave my arms so quickly to keep up with you that my baton flew from my fingers and lanced through a cellist's neck.  We'll work on your key problems tomorrow."

Good morning!

We got our rain, but it's over now and things seem to be heating up for another weekend of above the norm temperatures. [sigh] Just as I was starting to enjoy fall, Indian summer returned!

Finally got a decent night's sleep last night, the first really good one since my upset with the plumbing on Sunday/Monday.

TOD -

Book - Trevor Corson's The Secret Life of Lobsters, which is fascinating.  It's not just about the lobsters of Maine, but the people who study them and harvest them.  Corson's a good storyteller.

Movie Theater - The Seeker - The Dark is Rising.  A nifty little flick involving magic, good and evil, and a fourteen-year old hero.  We took the grandlads to see it yesterday, and they quite enjoyed themselves.

CD Player, Car - On our way taking the lads home, I popped in the soundtrack for Meet the Robinsons, which opens up with five or six songs used in the film.  The first song wasn't more than a few bars in, even before any of the singing had started, when William popped up "That's The Robinsons!"  He's only seen the film twice, once when it first came out and again when der Grampa took them again recently (first time for Alex).  The kid's got quite an ear, being able to recognize music that easily!

I don't have a VCR player.   :'(

And, with that, I must dash to work yet again.

The best way to learn about the evolution of talkies and the dawn of sound on film is in Richard Barrios' superb A SONG IN THE DARK. Yes, the focus is on musicals, but there's quite a bit about other films, too, and it's so thoroughly researched that I can't think of another reference book that can come near it for completeness.

Good morning. Boy could I use some vibes today.  Callie has been having trouble again so I did what I have been told over and over again I didn't wait and took her in this morning.  I called first and then took her in, the receptionist was very rude, I ended up leaving in tears and very upset, determined that I was going to get the cats' files when I got back and look for a new vet.

I went back home to finish getting ready for work and about 6 blocks from my house discovered I had a flat tire.  I had one yesterday and ended up buying 4 new tires...what are the odds of getting a nail in your tire 2 days in a row when you aren't even doing construction?

I was on my way to the office because I have a very important appointment at 10:00 AM.  and no, an assistant couldn't have taken care of it for me.  So I called the tire guy who is going to go get the car, put some air in the tire and drive it to the tire place where he'll take care of it (I didn't tell him I could see a screw in the tire)

Then I called Paul who picked me up and brought me to the office where I got a call from my nephew Adam who got a very late start on his way to Sioux City. That's ok, but I was sort of counting on him to give me a ride to get my car...

At least I prepped for the appointment yesterday. Now I'm going to take a deep breath, sip some coffee so I have my composure when my client arrives.

DR MBarnum:

Did you buy THE BEULAH SHOW on DVD when it was released a couple of months ago? How is the quality. I know they're from the early days of TV, but I was curious about how they might look. And how many episodes did they include in the release?

Thanks.

Mega-vibes to Cilla

Thanks FJL.  After my appointment this morning I don't have another appointment until 4:00 P.M., so I can find a ride or a cab or a bus and start taking care of the things I left for others on my way in this morning.

I am very worried about Callie.  She's been doing so well until the past 2 days.  Maybe it really is time for another opinion

Please wish me luck today- i need ALL the prayers and good  thoughts today.  I'll be seeing some  wonderful cousins flying in from Delaware, but the Little Foxes will outumber them  ( and I refuse to relive scenes from lLong Day's Jorney into Night" or "Virginia Woolf.)

Question about last night's UGLY BETTY

I also did not like seeing Justin act out.  But why was he kissing a girl? I thought his character was gay?

I liked VIctor Garber, and was also disappointed about henry.

RE: this week's PRIVATE PRACTICE, which i just saw yesterday.

*

SPOILERS

I actually think i liked this episode the best so far.  Granted the cases were quite predictable (i mean it was obvious that kid was gay and that the sick woman really was sick).  But i think the reason i liked it best was because we finally got a bit more into the actual main characters.

For instance i love Judging Amy, but she has seemed like a complete nutcase until now.  It was hard to see why anyone would trust her with their well-being.  And even though this week she was still obcessive (wanting to know about kami), i just felt like her situation finally felt like it went somewhere.

We found out the male doctor likes her. But we also got some indication like this guy she's been crazy about actually feels the same way.  Until that point i thought she was a stalker!
