I'm blaming it on the awful chicken breast swimming in a puddle of something or other...

Maybe you (and the chicken) would have been better off if you had tossed it a life ring rather than stabbing it with a fork.

Three blind mice, three blind mice
See how they run, see how they run
They all ran into the Kimmell wall
Where they did die, one and all
Did you ever smell such a stink in you life
As three dead mice

Hi, all! The weather is glorious here today, and even though Comcast was supposed to come here between 8 & 11, I slept in anyway.

After I got up and they didn't turn up by 11, I walked outside to check out the orange cable that they were supposed to bury but then didn't and then were going to return to today to hang a black cable in the air, which was what we wanted 3 visits ago. (This would have been their 8th visit.)

I didn't see the orange cable, which means that they did the work on Friday. The original plan was to make a repair appointment for Friday, but then they would cancel it for Friday and reschedule for Sunday, because they are not allowed to make repair appointments more than 48 hours out. (Who makes up these rules?)

This was the only way they could think of to schedule it for me when I talked to then on Wed. (I was on the phone for almost a hour!) because I wanted to be home when they came over.

So they did the work Friday even thought I wasn't home, but fortunately  everything seems to be working. The billing is still screwed up but I hope they will fix that, too. I actually talked to a guy there that seemed to know what he was doing, after talking to about 20 different stupid earthlings the past month.

I hope I don't have to deal with them again for a long, long time.

George, I'm so sorry to hear about little Ebonie's foot problem. Vibes that everything is benign and they don't have to do anything else. I've never heard of a cat getting a tumor on the foot. :-(

As far as silent auctions go, I was disappointed in the Women In Film auction. The did something similar to what our SMA silent auctioneers did, which was lump things into one auction item. So the autographed Merchant Ivory scripts, which should have been auctioned separately, were done all together. Not only does this not give more people a chance to bid, but they probably would have moade more money if they had done them separately.

At our SMA auction, Ken Burns gave me a nice bunch of items from JAZZ: the big coffee table book, the whole series, and music CD's. The auctioneers decided to do this as one package, when again, they would have made more and more people would have left with something if they had split it up.

I think the lumping together is done out of sheer laziness on the auction committee's part, but I thought I would mention it before bk does his silent auction.

Good Evening!

Well, I'm back after spending the day a few hours a couple of minutes with my parents and their friends.  So...

When I left the apartment this morning, I called my Dad on his cell.  They had literally just pulled into Port Authority, and were getting off their Greyhound bus.  I asked why he didn't call me earlier, and he said he thought I wasn't going to be able to join them today.  I have no idea where he got that idea, trust me on that one.  Besides, the friends they were travelling with had been to NYC recently, and since they were just going to stay in the Times Square area - well, just along 42nd Street, they didn't really need a "tour guide" today.  Well...  I told them I'd be heading down to Times Square to meet them.

Luckily, when I stepped onto the subway platform, the A train had just pulled up, so I was down at Times Square in about 12 minutes.  I called to see where they were, and my Dad said there were having lunch at Burger King.  -Weren't we just talking about fast-food yesterday.  So, I popped into Burger King to sit with them while they were having lunch.  My Mom offered to buy my lunch, but I really wasn't in the mood for Burger King this morning.  After lunch, they then headed to the chuch next door to go to the 11:30 Mass.  I had a few errands to run - and some breakfast to consume - so I did those things while they were in church.  -Yes, I'm lapsed, and I know it - and they know it too.  In any case...

The awards gala at the Ritz-Carlton was fun---I got to see a lot of folks I hadn't seen in awhile, and sat at James Ivory's table. You could really feel the love in the room when he received his award.

The Dali Lama was also staying at the Ritz-Carlton, but the only person who saw him was the producer sitting next to me, Sara Green. (She has produced some of my favorite films and she presented James with his award.)

Last night when Adam got home, we had a snack in the kitchen and Callie sat on one of the bar stools and just purred as we talked.  She was very cute about it

i'm glad she is back to her usual sweet self.

Yesterday there was a screening of THE GOLDEN BOWL, which was edited by our friend John, who was also in town for the gala, and to fundraise for his film. He has worked on the last 3 Merchant Ivory films.

James Ivory did a discussion afterwards, led by my friend Kristen, and a great Q&A after that. It was SO interesting and his answers were very thoughtful.

After the Q&A, 8 of us, including James Ivory and our friend John, went out for Chinese food (Greg met us at the restaurant.) . The restaurant was already closed but the owner reopened for us and cooked us an immense and yummy meal, and it was nice having the place to ourselves.

A good time was had by all, and we somehow were not allowed to pay for anything and yet ended up with the take-home boxes. Just as good the next day!

Now I am interested in seeing BOMBAY TALKIE and THE WILD PARTY.

One of the funny stories about THE WILD PARTY:

James Ivory called one of the takes of a scene with Raquel Welch "a bit dull" and asked for a retake. Because of this, Welch walked off the set and refused to return until Jim apologized to her in front of the entire cast and crew. (Raquel tried to have him and some of the other crew fired!) She accepted, and they went on with the film.

Apparently, when he made the apology, it was recorded and they put it on the DVD as an extra! LOL!

After having brunch at Westway Diner - where I had to "return" a moldy(!) bialy (YUCK!), I headed over to the New Amsterdam to pick up the tickets I had arranged for my parents and their friends, and then I headed back to the church to wait for them to come out.  And I waited... And waited...

I peeked in around 12:30 - when the Mass was supposed to end - and they had just started the Communion line... Hmm.. Well, they'll be out in about 10-15 minutes and we're only about 5 minute walk - if that - from the theatre.  About 12:45, they came out - they left before the final blessing, and we all started to head to the theatre.

On the way to the theatre, my Dad informed me that my Mom had brought her coffee in with her from Burger King, and ended up spilling it in the pews.  Oops... Well... Maybe that's why they cut out of Mass early.  ;)

I gave them their tickets, they headed to the front, and I went in through the stage door.  Once I got inside, I located my parents - who happened to be in very good seats - ninth row, center, on the aisle - and the show began.  I saw them briefly at intermission, and then as the BC/EFA speeches (it's that time of year again already!) were being made after the Bows, they started to come up the aisle.  "We're going to go ahead and take the 4:00 bus back to Atlantic City."  What?!?!?!

It turns out, that some other friends who were in AC this weekend are high-rollers, and there was some super deluxe meal being held for the casino's "special guests" tonight.  And my parents wanted to make it back there in time for that special meal, that special free meal.  Originally, they were thinking they would have dinner in the City, and then head back on the 8:00 bus.  Then at lunch today, they said they were going to take the 5:00 bus so that they could do a little bit of sight-seeing after the show.  Well... Once the BC/EFA speeches were done, I ushered them out the 41st Street doors, and toward Port Authority.

And that was basically how I spent the "day" with my parents.

Of course, when I had talked to them last week, they kept asking me why I hadn't come back down to Virginia to visit anyone... And why I don't call them on a regular basis... Etc., etc., etc...  But my parents did love the show - my Dad told me how much he really liked it, and that was just after the first act!  And my Mom ended up slipping me a wad of bills to cover the cost of the tickets, as well as some "extra money" - since they had noticed I had lost some weight, and were worried that I didn't have enough money to buy food!  ;D

In any case, it was good seeing my parents and their friends today, even it turned out for a briefer time than I had thought it would be.  They really did enjoy the show, and, sort of surprisingly, so did I (again).

And it was great seeing Alexandra go on for her second show as Jane Banks.  She did a "prac-ti-cal-ly perfect" job, and I'm sure it will only get more "perfect" as she gets more shows under her belt.

After the matinee, since I had a bit of unexpected free time on my hands, I decided to walk around for a bit, and take care of some phone calls.  While walking and talking, I happened to run into the absolutely wonderful and "Truly Scrumptious" Erin Dilly, and her beautiful 18-month old daughter.  -The last time I had seen Erin, she was still pregnant, so it had been a while since we had seen each other.

She was trying to find the stage door to the Brooks Atkinson to meet up with her hubby, Stephen Buntrock, who's currently playing the Teen Angel in Grease.  Well, she got her theatres and streets mixed up, so we ended up walking together for a few blocks to get to the right street and the right theatre.  Well, by the time she was supposed to be there, he husband called to say that he was about to go on. -They just wanted to pop in to say HI to Daddy at the stage door.  So, we just ended up having a nice time catching up, and we even got some good dishing in.  Then they headed off to play in the park, and I headed over to Virgin.  -Yes, I had a coupon.  ;)

I hope I don't have to deal with them again for a long, long time.

Here in lower, slower, southern Delaware the COMCAST folks, themselves, are pleasant, accessable, and professional however, they sub-contract out their installation service! When our service went out, the actual COMCAST guy came out to check and discovered that the installer had spliced our cable with electrical tape before burying it. (Ground rodents love to dine on electrical tape!) The COMCAST guy was really pissed at the idiot sibs.) Later, a real COMCAST guy was next door and I pointed out to him that our orange cable was not properly buried and was poking up through the gravel in the drive. I said nothing else, two days later COMCAST was out and reburied the cable - I didn't even have to put in a trouble call.

I also called my brother, Mike, just to say Hi.  It turns out that due to some of the kids' schedules over the past two weeks, they just weren't able to make it up to NYC.  However, my brother Mike will be coming up in two weeks to cheer on my brother, Jay, who's coming into town to run the NYC Marathon.  So, hopefully, the three of us can get together that weekend for a bit.

It's also my nephew's, John Michael's Birthday today too!  So, I was able to wish him a Very Happy Birthday, and apologize for not being able to make it to his bowling(!) party tomorrow after he gets out from school.  He was very understanding, and told me he still loves me, and that he misses me... Which, of course, made me cry.

I also talked to my niece, Alyssa, who informed me that Emily is indeed walking around a lot, and that even though Emily is walking now, she is still helping to take care of her...  Which, of course, made me cry even more.

But it was a happy cry.  And, hopefully, I'll see them in a week or two.  I have four days off in a row coming up, so I'm gonna try and make it down there for a day or two.  -I also have a backlog of birthday presents to take care of too.  ;)
