I saw The Farnsworth Invention last night. For those of you who don't know, Philo T. Farnsworth is one of the inventors of television, according to history. The play is about the race to secure the patent for the device that eventually became television. David Sarnoff, the head of RCA and creator of NBC works with a Russian who came to the U.S. (Sarnoff left Russia as a child) in the race against Farnsworth. As portrayed in the show (IMHO) Sarnoff seems like a mean, cold, caculating son of a bitch but Hank Azaria was excellent in his portrayl. Jimmi Simpson as Farnsworth, the somewhat tortured genius is wonderful. The show is well written and well constructed by Aaron Sorkin. It is a bit wordy but works nonetheless. It's funny and suspensful, even though you know (at least I did) how the whole thing turns out. Lots of good, journeyman actors in the show including Michael Mulhern who was good, but wasted in Deuce, and Jim Ortlieb. If you like your dramas, this is a good one. I can see it as a movie or an HBO made for television film.

The theatre going continues. I really should try to see Greetings from Yorkville. A friend of mine who now lives in Tucson worked with the two people in the show and keeps sending me e-mails to see it. It's on TDF all the time so I may try to get a ticket but I'm very booked for the next few weeks. Now that overtime is done I'm back to heavy theatre attendance.

I'm seeing Cymbeline next week (at Lincoln Center). While I'm there I am going to try and get a ticket for The Glorious Ones, the new musical by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens. I know FJL saw the show in Philly (IIRC) and loved it. I'm a big fan of F&A so I want to see the show if possible. Because it's at the smaller Lincoln Center Theatre and part of the membership season tickets are hard to come by. I shall try, nonetheless.

I'm seeing Rock and Roll next Thursday and I just got a ticket for the recently discovered Mark Twain play

Is He Dead?

It's been tweaked by David Ives (I really enjoy his writing) and stars Norbert Leo Butz (another favorite of mine).

After Is He Dead? I get to see The Little Mermaid and then I will take a break during the holidays (unless there are free tickets posted at Equity during my volunteer stint in December).

Tonight Anthony and I will stay indoors. We will probably watch some of the parade on NY1, our local all-news cable channel but since the parade goes right by our street it is very difficult to move around and it's easier to stay inside. The weather is supposed to be beautiful which means a large turnout for the parade and most likely much noise until late in the evening.

And now I must move on.

A. Into the light?
B. To wash the bowl?

Perhaps DR JoseSPiano is taking his inspiration for his abs workouts from the men of The Ritz?

Halloween Wednesday greetings!  I think our managers are getting ready to announce the winners in yesterday's costume contest.

Today's title reminds me of the first time we took our DS Rob(bie) to the Cincinnati Zoo.  We ate lunch at one of the snack bars and had their animal fries - potatoes cut in shapes like animal crackers and deep fried.

DR elmore - Good Morning!  How was the cake?  ;)

I ate the monkey cake for breakfast; it was excellent.  The chocolate cake will wait.  thank you again, DR Jose.  Isn't there some famous movie or story/novel (Capote?) with a bit about day-oldcake?

Prize winners just announced via email - I'm not in the special prize categories, but have won a candy bar along with all the other honorable mentions (basically, anyone who bothered to show up in a "costume," no matter how lame).

Thanks for the reminder, DR FJL - I had meant to thank DR Ben for his theatre report, as well.

Ben - i saw Glorious Ones in Pittsburgh, at the stunning Pittsburgh Public Theater, and also have seen it here at Lincoln Center Theater.  (I saw it before the foot-pain issues had progressed.)  Even given that Lynn and Steve are friends of the family through the BMI Workshop, I loved it, as did the Pittsburgh critics for the most part - but I have no idea where the NYC critics will land on this show.
