I hope you managed to empty the booze out of the glasses before you used them for the candles. ;)

Took a moment to get dinner in the oven.  Sauerkraut and pork ribs (with apples and onion added).  I'll be roasting a few red taters later, closer to dindin time.

DR Jose, I loved the story about your dad's life.  Around 1992, I went back to Ohio with a cassette recorder and made my mom, dad, and Aunt Dorothy tell me as many stories about my family that I could put on tape. It was quite an emotional set of days and I have some wonderful tales, several humorous, some quite sad, and even a few heroic ones.

I loved the story about my Dad's life - and my Mom's too.  I actually think I'm the first son (of the four) to get the "whole story".  Although, there's a good chance my youngest brother, Jay, may already know all the details since he's living out in San Diego among a good chunk of my Dad's family.

It was neat hearing about how a chance meeting with a fellow officer helped him to secure a short-duty station while me and my brothers were children.  My Dad was working as a steward, and my Dad had told one of his CO's that he wanted to get off the ship for a while.  Well, a few months later, while he was working, he was told there was a call from HQ - he thought he was in trouble.  It turned out that the officer he had met was in charge of determining the upcoming billet stations, and he was calling my Dad personally to tell him that some shore-duty billets were available in the next rotation, and was asking him which one he'd prefer.  And that's how he and my Mom ended up down in DC the first time - just a few months after I was born.  He ended up being stationed down DC for seven years the first time - most billets only lasted two or three years.  Of course, after DC came Seattle, and then he was back on ship duty there and when we moved to Connecticut two years later.  -And by then, I was old enough to start taking care of and cooking for my brothers.  ;)

And I have to say I'm actually kind of excited about heading back to the Philippines sometime in the future.  I've always been sort of hesitant about the trip back "home" - the long plane flight, the heat(!), the humidity(!), the bugs(!!!).  But, now, it seems like it will be "neat".  -And, I have to say, after talking with my father and mother this mother, I'm sorry I never really spent that much time with my grandparents since they stayed in the Islands.  Although, at some point and time, they all did come stateside for a couple of weeks while we lived in Seattle.

The only thing he did mention about being a Steward was that if he wanted to change specialties, he would have to start all over again pay-grade-wise - at least while he was Enlisted.  However, once he became a CPO, he did have to learn a lot of management and leadership duties - as well as a lot more nautical skill since he'd be serving on board Cutters and The Eagle.

And it turns out the start of the Vietman War was the reason my Dad received his U.S. Citizenship... Since any foreign nationals serving in the Armed Forces were granted citizenship in order to serve.  -I still need to research which Act of Congress/Law that was.

I cannot put OHMSS in my fave Bond film list.  Sorry, just doesn't work, and I love Diana Rigg.  Unfortunately, Lazenby and Savalas counter all my love for her.   :P

I loved George Lazenby in OHMSS.  Have never understood negative reactions to him.

For some strange reason, the third Bond film any actor has done remains my favorite for that actor.  

Connery - Goldfinger.
Moore - The Spy Who Loved Me.
Brosnan - The World Is Not Enough.

Timothy Dalton, your take on Bond was good, you should have stuck around a little longer, you only made two flicks.

And MBarnum, if you think Daniel Craig has jug ears, you ought to take a gander at Christopher Eccleston!
The 9th Doctor's ears almost overshot his shoulders!
