FAREWELL 2007/HELLO 2008!
« on: December 31, 2007, 12:24:23 AM »

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were nostalgic and forward-looking at the same time, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they, as always, are trying to assure me that they'll be coming home in the New Year.

Will we never get to page two?  No matter what happens today, we beat last December by a few miles.

BK, have you seen the Woody Allen movie, "Everyone Says I Love You"?  If you did, what did you think?

That was weird - I just "ejected" my backup hard drive after it did its update, just like I always do - I saw the icon disappear, and I unplugged the drive - and got one of those ! messages that said I may have lost data or damaged it because I didn't eject it.  Say what?

I did not like the Woody Allen movie - I ultimately shut it off.

Ahh.  I think I might have gotten a used video some time ago, but if I did, it's packed away in my garage in an unmarked box.

Our local PBS is apparently starting the Jerry Herman docu at 1030, so I'll have to tape it and watch on NY night. 'cause tomorrow's a work day...Agree with BK's comments on Sweeny, esp the performance of Toby...Listening to the CD in the car, some of HBC's dialog is inaudible, but overall I liked the flick......A Theater Binge in NYC last Spring-It was the best of binges, it was the worst of binges...LoveMusik, Utopia Marathon, Curtains, Deuce, ACL, Moon/Misbegotten, Company, Frost/Nixon, Journeys End, Redgrave solo. I liked them all, except for Mamma Mia, tho the Mamma in question was a wonderful singer....The worst part, downright traumatizing, was my exposure to cell phones, texting, glaring H2o bottles etc.It hadn't been like this my last NYC visit('02)Next time i'll steel myself in advance or bring valium or something practical. An advance Happy New Year to All!

Good morning, all! I hace few plans today, but I am going into the office this morning. I need to photocopy the pages from the 1935 auction catalogue in which Clifford Herbert put up for sale the original full scores to BABES IN TOYLAND.  Part of today and tomorrow, I will try to assemble a history of how the materials ended up at the Library of Congress.

I also will be seeing THE WATER HORSE later this afternoon, and then I will spend New Year's Eve at home, which is where I prefer to be on New Year's Eve.

Yesterday, I made out the check for the estate's legal fees, and my dad's estate is essentially settled.  I have to deal with his tax returns before April, but everything else is pretty much wrapped up and this was the major part of my calendar year 2007: losing my dad and a brother (well, technically I lost him in July 2006) and dealing with the cleanup.  Other unfortunate things that occurred this year were the trauma of moving the recording office and the limbo/stasis we seem to be currently in and how to resolve this positively.

The best thing for me this year was the NYMF production of THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X, which certainly jerked my career out of its period of mourning and stirred things up. The second best was meeting in person more of the delightful folk hanging out on this site and socializing with the friends I consider family on this site.  I was also lucky getting to work with Ashley Brown, Brad Haak, and David Burnham. and I hope 2008 continues the positive momentum.

TOD:

There are many things I am thankful for in 2007, but by far the best has been discovering and joining HHW and the wonderful, incredible people who are a part of this community.

Thanks to you all, and ***SUPER VIBES*** for a fantastic 2008!  :)

Monday.  No, I don't have to work.

DR RLP and DR derBRUCER - I enjoy Ms Esther Williams movies, just don't understand them.  I certainly have a couple of favorites....Neptune's Daughter and Million Dollar Mermaid, and would never begrudge her the success she earned.

As for the erstwhilie G. Kelly and B. Peters....I think I wrote before that I thought Peters was brilliant as Dot in SITPWG, but that she grates on my nerves in anything else I have seen or heard her doing...including a cloying and annoying "Poor Butterfly" on The Carol Burnett Show decades ago.

Gene Kelly - okay as a hoofer, pretentious when he "dances."
